View Full Version : Is Daggerfall worth keeping if I own both Morrowind and Oblivion?

As well as the freeware Arena? I can't help but think that one day soon Bethesda is going to go ahead and make Daggerfall freeware, but a small part of me wants to keep it since it was a christmas present back when I was a kid, and because I love the Elder Scrolls universe and because it seems to be hard to get (Ebay never lists many auctions for it at once).

But then the other part of me says "Hey, dumbass, you can get $70 for it easily on Ebay and it will probably be a bitch to run under XP". Plus, I can't help but think that Morrowind and Oblivion have done everything Daggerfall did and has done it ten times better.

I don't remember alot about Daggerfall other then the game had way too many fucking places to visit... any ideas?

You could always make a backup copy then sell it. An old friend of mine was obsessed with the game at one point and said that in some ways it was a better game than Morrowind if you didn't mind the graphics difference.

Keep it for the memories. I have the original version of Arena still in mint condition and my brother and I installed it like a week before Oblivion came out and had a fun time playing it. I'd always keep it so you can say, "Hey, this is one of the game s I had as a kid, I remember *insert random story here*." Though, it is your choice, i'm just telling you what I'd do.

Well, if they make it freeware like Arena, keeping the actual CD won't do me alot of good.

I might just take Zion's advice and make myself a back-up and then dump the original, because I don't think it will hold for $70 for long espically if it goes freeware.

But you know what I'm definately keeping is the original very large strategy guide that was put out for the game ;)

I was just wondering, gameplay wise, if Morrowind / Oblivion totally eclipse what Daggerfall brought to the table, because I don't feel like messing with XP to get it to work, unless someone has an easy way to get it to work under XP.

There's actaully this really cool program called dosbox http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1

This allows you to play your old games on Windows XP. I'm not quite sure what you need to do, but it's all on the site in one little program.

.

It was up around $40 well before oblivion released so it might stay where it is for some time, although a freeware version or it as some sort of bonus wouldn't be too unlikely in the distant future.

dos box is simply a dos emulator, so it allows you to play dos games, not all older games.

but damn, I got dos box to play Star Gunner when it was made freeware and it was just as good as when I was 5 years old.

I'm thinking Daggerfall will be the similar for you Roufuss, so at least keep a copy if you decide to go for the $70

I just took a look at Ebay, since I also have a complete box copy sitting around. (Got it when I closed my gamestore, an employee left it there months ago and never came back to get it) and there's one on there going for 100 bucks. o.o

Hopefully... I'm gonna get it running tonight if luck is with me.

It's just that what I can remember of Daggerall, it just seems like Morrowind and Oblivion have refined it so much that it will be hard going back, espically with all the mods and stuff.

Daggerfall did have one kickass story, though.

It sells for that much. Man I have it in a cd in the back of my closet and haven't touched it in ages. I'll have to look some of those up for sale on Ebay.

I sold Final Fantasy 7 for $57 about a month back. Need the funds to keep on buying games. DS, and 360 games along with the upcoming Wii launch... Even without the PS3 on my list I'm going to be shelling out some cash in the coming year.

It's the CD that is getting $60 - $70... as it was noted earlier, if you've got the full box and everything, you can get $100 easily.

I got this game when I was real young. And my parents had an evil tendency to throw the box's away because they took up to much space and I didn't need them. Something I still hassle them about whenever I get the chance.
