I ordered a game from Amazon using standard shipping on May 30th. Yesterday, the 31st, I got an email confirming the item shipped and would arrive around June 3rd-6th. Now, their warehouse is only about 30 minutes from my house, so it usually only takes a couple of days. Well, I just looked at the status, and it says:
Jun 01, 2006 12:00:00 AM Delivery attempted - recipient not home
I don't see how this could be possible... For one, the time can't be right, and also, I haven't slept since Tuesday night, and was home the whole time, so a failed delivery due to no one home is out of the question. And, anyway, since when does USPS check if someone is home?
Anyone know what's up with this?
EDIT:
The tracking on USPS.com now says this:
Status: Notice Left

We attempted to deliver your item at 7:20 am on June 01, 2006 in CATONSVILLE, MD 21228 and a notice was left. It can be redelivered or picked up at the Post Office. If the item is unclaimed, it will be returned to the sender. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

K... I was sitting in my living room, right by the front door watching the news at that time... Nothing happened, and there's no notice, anywhere...

If it was sent signature required I guess the USPS would have to have someone home to sign. I think you can get that service from USPS. Is it something really expensive?

Not sure on the attempted Midnight delivery though. That one is odd.

It was only $20, all the other times I've ordered dvd sets and games, they've just left them in the mail box with all the other mail.

Signature required on a $20 item does seem very doubtful.

Not sure what happened. Could be a different/fill-in/new mailman who doesn't like to leave packages on the doorstep. I'd call your post office and ask why a notice wasn't actually left and/or to ask if they have the package there for you to come in and pick up. They might not be able to tell you anything, but it's worth a shot.

Could also end up showing up on your door today and the DC was scanned incorrectly. (i.e. it should read 'out for delivery') I have no idea how likely that is. Do you typically get your mail first thing in the morning?

Nope, that's what has me confused the most. Our mail comes between 2:30 and 3:00pm, always. Also, my car was in the driveway which is basically, between the mail box and the front door.

I'd wait and see if it comes in today's mail. If not, give them a call and see what they can tell you.

Ya. I'm going to wait and see what happens for the rest of today and tomorrow. I checked Amazon's shippin policy, it says if a delivery fails they will make two more attempts to deliver it before they return it.
