It's been months since Bethesda Softworks shipped The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3140381), and while the company's pimped their downloadable content to no end, a patch to fix some of the rough spots that weren't ironed out before release has been long coming. At least the wait's not far off now. The company confirmed to 1UP that an official patch is in the final stages of development and certification, and should be available for both PC and Xbox 360 users sometime next week.
But what if you don't have access to Xbox Live? The company's looking into a number of options, including bundling the patch onto a disc with the Official Xbox Magazine. "We'll make it available via whatever means are out there for any game to get updates to people playing the game," said public relations head Pete Hines.

Update: Apparently the update crippled the workaround. You can download the demo but when you start it, it gives you a ‘Wrong Region - The disc’s region code is incorrect for this console.’ error. We tried several different Live accounts but none work. Let’s hope this problem is limited to this demo.

It used to work like this:

First off you should go to the passport site : http://www.passport.com/. Make sure you are not logged in, and click on the "create hotmail account" link. Now, here is the important part, the site will ask you where you are from, select either Japan, the US, or Europe. Remember, this is the country where the demo is available, not where you really live! You will require some information regarding those countries so Microsoft will allow you ro register the e-mail address.

Once you have filled out the info and applied for the Hotmail account, activate it and turn on your Xbox360. Press the guide button and choose "switch profile" (X Button). Now create a new profile, and a new Xbox Live Account, make it a Silver account instead of a Gold (so you dont have to pay). Next you will require the phone number mentioned above to use your passport. You could theoretically take care of all the passport stuff on the Xbox, but it will go much faster on PC with a keyboard.

Well, that is about it folks! Pretty sweet huh? The cool thing is that you can disable (they actually are disabled from the start if you have already a gold membership installed on your box) the auto sign for the foreign accounts, hence leaving your primary "Real" account hassle-free. Ejoy the demos!

The update had nothing to do with the demo not working. I downloaded it and tried to play it the night before the update and got the region error message.

Have any Japanese demos worked on a US machine? I've never downloaded any others, since US versions were always out there.

With the new dashboard update I finally decided to download the PD0 demo while playing Oblivion and I'm glad I did. I hated it. It felt like generic shooter #101, not Perfect Dark on the N64. I may pick it up some day, but it's going to have to be for less the $30.

What sucks is, there's a potential for a good game there, and it's not that far off. It plays like a crappy verison of the Giant Gram games, which were awesome. If they just had more THROWS in there and didn't make it so every fucking move was a strike or a submission, and then loosened up the control a bit, it would actually be pretty fun, tits or no tits.

Im glad amped 2 was made BC. The online free ride was great, just go online and talk while everyone does there own thing. Also I liked the right analog for doing grabs, it took a little bit to get used to not using it in Amped 3.

"No lag whatsoever" is pretty much impossible. I'd certainly think it's possible to get it well into the realm of being acceptable though - SFII on XBLA should absolutely not be laggier than a game of SFII I play over Kaillera on MAME.

Instructions on how to get it:

For the people that just can't click on the link. This is how to create one:

First off you should go to the passport site : http://www.passport.com/. Make sure you are not logged in, and click on the "create hotmail account" link. Now, here is the important part, the site will ask you where you are from, select either Japan, the US, or Europe. Remember, this is the country where the demo is available, not where you really live! You will require some information regarding those countries so Microsoft will allow you ro register the e-mail address.

You can use any valid address and phone number from the country where the demo is available.


Once you have filled out the info and applied for the Hotmail account, activate it and turn on your Xbox360. Press the guide button and choose "switch profile" (X Button). Now create a new profile, and a new Xbox Live Account, make it a Silver account instead of a Gold (so you dont have to pay). Next you will require the phone number mentioned above to use your passport. You could theoretically take care of all the passport stuff on the Xbox, but it will go much faster on PC with a keyboard.

Well, that is about it folks! Pretty sweet huh? The cool thing is that you can disable (they actually are disabled from the start if you have already a gold membership installed on your box) the auto sign for the foreign accounts, hence leaving your primary "Real" account hassle-free. Ejoy the demos!

Played for a few minutes. Seriously thinking about buying it now. It is really cool. The part I played was kind of easy, but I'm just picturing playing this on XBL. The graphics, weapons, mechs, are awesome. Dont like how buildings don't show damage, they do fall down though. I'll give more impressions if I have more time to play tonight but by then, most of you will have impressions of your own. Definately do recommend you DL this though.

You are the only person that i've heard positive comments from about it. The Xbox forums are completely bashing it. Not one person has had something good to say about it. I guess i'll have to try out the demo and see for myself.

Eww, this game sucks. The character moves SO slow and you have to walk everywhere, you only have one weapon, aiming sucks, no jump, uncreative environments, very very repetitive, and most of all, what's the point? There's no real motivation.
