Based on the XBOX 360 release, do you think it would be possible to buy 2 PS3's on launch, and sell one for double the price on eBay, therefore getting the other PS3 for free??

if it's in short supply, then it's possible, but then you're screwing someone else out of getting a system for themselves at msrp....i hope all stores will limit ps3 sales to 1 system per person, per day.... in order for everyone to have a somewhat fair chance to buy it.

Not sure what's so urgent about this question, but...
Not really. Easily obtainable PS3s and $1,200 PS3s are mutually exclusive. What I mean is, if they're going for $1,200 on eBay, then your chances are slim of finding two of them at retail. And if you're able to find two of them at retail, then chances are slim that they're going for $1,200 on eBay.

No. The PS3 is expensive, it's unlikely to sell out. You actually have a better bet with the Wii.

Not if you get in a car wreck on the way to the store.
I'll be praying for it to occur.

sure, but the real chances of you getting TWO PS3 on launch....depends on where you live. The hillbilly Midwest probably

Why don't you buy three PS3s and make yourself a $600 profit?
Step 1: Take out a loan.
Step 2: Screw some honest hardworking people out of getting PS3s they want for the money.
Step 3: Do not declare the re-sales on your taxes.
If there was a just and loving God, the earth would open up and swallow you whole, transporting you to the eternal state of torment, consisting mostly of anal consumption of both PS3 units that you have so cleverly purchased, you "entrepreneur" you.
It could have felt good, but last I heard, rumble is not included.

If you can afford to drop the $1400 that it's going to take to get 2 systems, you can afford to not be a resale rapist.

What ever happened to the free market? It might be an asshole move but sometimes to get ahead you've got to be an asshole. I don't have a problem with it - if some douchebag wants to pay $1,200 for a PS3 then let him. As for screwing someone out of getting one for MSRP - hey, life's not fair. Also, that person obviously doesn't want it bad enough or they would camp out, pre-order or actually pay the crazy eBay price for one.

Javeryh hit it. If he can bring the dough, then why not? It may make you a douchebag, but who doesn't want a free PS3?

Why not? Because you should be nice to other people you don't know who may want one? Don't make me laugh.

I'm not touching this one.

I was going to try this with EB Games, but decided not to. I decided that it just wouldn't be worth the hassle (bad karma, dropping $1200 up front, dickhead eBay buyers, Paypal chargebacks, etc). I decided that I'm not even going to get one until we see a price drop and the inevitable quality issues get fixed (its a lot of new technology to get right....especially for Sony).
Also, the manager at EB Games said that he heard that they would be checking for duplicate names / phone numbers automatically in order to prevent people from getting more than 1 system (even if you buy at different locations). I'm not sure if I believe that, but I just pass along what I hear.
Bottom line, sure you will probably be able to double up if you can get two units.

Ha, that manager is just saying BS. I mean, how much time would be spent to check every name and number at every EB within 20 miles or so. Besides, how would they know one John Smith or Micheal Wang from the other? I'd be pissed if I had a common name, and then come Nov. 17th they would say,
" You cant buy this cuz your name is the same as this guy who reserved it accross town, and you must have given your cell instead of your house".

I didn't realize it was that hard to compare databases? While your second point is valid, if I were EB I'd take addresses as well (not sure if they do, never preordered from there) and use that as another match criteria.

Just pre-order from two different places, thus saving you from fighting the insane crowds of people that will undoubtedly be camping out weeks in advance to get one.
Oh wait...that would include me. :)

This takes me by surprise. Why would you deny a person their ability to take advantage of free enterprise as a self-created middle-man (just to play devil's advocate?)

I say go for it, but keep in mind there is still a considerable amount of risk involved. Like someone before said, you're fronting $1200+, what if you get stiffed on eBay, they get stolen, lost during shipping, demand not being as high as expected, etc. But hey, if you can make money or get a free PS3 out of it then more power to you.

Honestly based on some of the OP's other threads, Id doubt he'd be able to even afford one PS3... much less two of them...

So do you need my PayPal number, or are you going to send in a check/money order? 'cuz you're now ten bucks poorer.
javeryh: I hope that on the night whatever system that you fancy will come out, you will be camping out. And once you'll get to the register, they'll say "oops, we're sold out..." with a kid in front of you carrying three.
rabitt nailed it with the douchebag remark. However, in this particular case, I ask of the community to promote such individuals to either "chode," "queef," or "taint."

hahaha like I'd ever waste my time camping out for anything. Even if that were to happen it would be my own damn fault for not wanting it as bad as that kid in front of me to get in line before he did and I certainly wouldn't hold anything against him. Doesn't the early bird get the worm or something?
I am facinated that anyone with the means to make money would decline to do so. Do you have some moral opposition to buying up more than you need to resell to those willing to pay at a higher price? It's just astounding.

I'm putting in preorders at multiple places just to ensure I have one at launch. If by some miracle I get more than one, I'll check to see if any of my friends weren't able to find one. If they either have theirs or don't want it, then yes, the extras would go to Ebay.
I seriously doubt this sequence of events will occur tho - I still think I will be lucky to get one (and on that note, anyone saying they won't sell out is dillusional).

I really don't think these will sell for double the cost, and its not like you're going to make $600 profit without any trouble. You'll probably have to camp out to get just one, and are very likely to get a complaint from an ebayer when they are grossly overpaying for something, especially if the PS3 ends up having hardware problems which is likely given the PS2's history and Xbox 360 problems.
I think its ok to try to sell, if you don't someone else will.

It is of my personal opinion that you are more than welcome to do this for the PS3. My reasoning behind is the fact that it is such an expensive console, that only those people who had been paying those prices on ebay, would buy one normally at $600. As well, I'm sure that so many of those people had been burned by bad ebayers that they likely will not go through that again.
On that note, I will hogtie you and send you down the amazon if you try to do that in my town with the Wii.

Knowing that I would have to starve myself to buy a PS3 I planned to do the exact same thing with a friend. I planned for us to both preorder and get them the same day. Then sell one to save money the other. I mean it is $600 freaking dollars!
I plan to take out a loan to get both, but then again I have less hope for my plan now with news of people holding out for the Wii. In any case I have no immediate plans to do this.

So do you need my PayPal numberI think most of us use an address, and not a number. And I don't see how he lost this imaginery bet anyway considering you don't make up half of the people who replied to this thread and would have no way of prooving anything.

Good luck, because there isn't one.

That's the CAG way, bro; you should know that. When there's a deal or a hot commodity, shouldn't we let others get some mileage out of the find as well? Now, I'll admit I hoarded a game or two in my day for trade fodder, but I don't advocate it and have repented from it.
Your philosophy is coming off as very egotistical: Do anything to make money, screw the people you don't know.
