So, got the game today, it's as good as I expected... feels alot like the older games, I can't write up a proper review but I just wanted to get the discussion started on this one. I'm still getting a feel for all the races, units, etc.

I will say there are two huge drawbacks for me, though.

1) The shitty manual... it's almost forcing me to buy the strategy guide, as it dosen't list ANYTHING about the races, units, special abilities, nothing. I remember previous HoMM manuals were chock full of goodness.

2) The huge huge huge lack of multiplayer maps... I don't like the fact most of the custom maps so far are "scenarios" where they pick your race for you and you have objectives. I always liked picking a race and just doing a free for all, sadly, there's only 6 or 7 maps that supports this. Ubisoft says a custom map generator is coming, but you think they would have made more multiplayer maps to make up for there not being one already.

Although I do not have the game I can see that your points are valid. I have had every other HOMM, except for 4, and I would be really disappointed as well if the maps were as linear as they are in the demo. The manual issue I am ok with as I find myself lucky to even get a manual with a game nowadays.

I am quite sure that with the map generator we will have many user created maps. I also think that in the near future (3 weeks or so) we will see either a patch for the game that include some more mulitplayer maps or something to that effect.

Now I have a question to ask all those who have already bought the game: how is the mulitplayer. Does it have a good multiplayer system, sort of like in Age of Wonders 2, where you took simultaneous turns? How well does it work? Turn based turns are quite a drag considering a game like that would take many hours.

God, I'm ridiculously on the fence with this game... I just don't know what to expect at all since I never played the previous games in the series. The demo was kinda cool, but I want to know stuff like if you level up, how you get new allies, etc.

The demo is exactly what you can expect out of the game... it is the full game with two campaign missions and one scenario, and 2 full sides to play as.

Nothing is missing from the demo expect more races to play as... it is probably one of the few demo's where you can really know what to expect out of the game.

You level up just like you do in the demo (leveling up your hero's only after battles you win), and I don't get what you mean about allies.

You know what's even more messed up, is that the LE ships in this big huge box, and the ONLY thing inside the box is a small DVD case with 3 DVD's inside of it. What a waste of packaging.

I also just got an artifact in the game called a Necromancer's Helm... however, the game dosen't tell me what it does at all. Nice touch!
