I dont have HD, so is the 360 still worth it? If so, which games look best on standard tv?

Yes.

Any game looks pretty damn good on a standard TV. Stand outs for me include Lost Planet demo, Oblivion, Fight Night Round 3, Call Of Duty 2 and Condemned.

If your TV has red, green, and blue componet inputs, I'd say yes.

Yes its worth it. And if you tv has s video then you have to get the s video cable.

What do you mean S-Video? I just have the traditional Red/Yellow/White plug holes

Don't worry, you don't have it.

I'm going to vote no. Granted, I've never seen a 360 on a non-HD set but I just can't imagine it looking good - especially if it's 4:3.

I have just a normal tv and I can vouch that it still looks amazing.

Of course, it's even better looking on a HDTV but you can still easily tell that (alot of the) games that are out couldn't be done on the original Xbox and are a big upgrade.

360 is a go for any tv.

no...the games look like Pong (or Combat, if you have S-video) if you plug it into a regular TV.

j.k. they look fine, but who cares about graphics...are there games you like on the 360?

I use my 360 on a SD TV using the red, green, and blue cables, and it looks great. However note that, it is a 55'' widescreen TV, and my parents are too cheap to buy an HD tuner.

You don't need an HD tuner to get HD out of the 360, it does it on its own. If your tv is HD ready like you made it sound, you need to change your settings asap.

I'll be sure to do that the next time I use my 360. Thanks. :D

360 looks fine as long as you dont try to use it on a coaxial connection.

Obviously it's the games that should convince you to get a 360, but the graphics do look good on a normal TV. I've got my 360 hooked up with composite cables to a 27" TV from 1995... (yes, I'm getting a new TV soon) and there's a definite increase in the detail. What really struck me though is how smoothly some games run. Stuff like Ridge Racer 6 runs incredibly smooth and DOA 4 has a ton of shit going on while running at 60 FPS without a hitch. Even if you don't have a TV capable of displaying a higher resolution, the games still look very good.

At launch? No. Now? Yeah. There are enough good games out to overlook the non-HD aspect.

However, if you only have composite (Red/Yellow/White) input, I'd seriously suggest taking that 360 money and at least putting it towards a TV with component input, even if it's non-HD. You'll see a hell of a difference between what you have now and component, even on a standard 4:3 TV.

I really want a 360, but I only have a coaxial connection. I use an RF adaptor right now with my XBOX. From the sound of it the 360 would look like CRAP on my TV. Am I right?

It looks great even without HD, although I plan on getting one in a few years the graphics are viewtiful.

if you're running everything with RF and coax, it probably won't make a difference to you. it'll still look better, you just won't be getting the most out of it...invest $35 in a TV with A/V inputs at the pawnshop.

Honestly, yes. The graphics would be good, but the signal would be so awful...I dunno. It would be like eating a delicious bowl of ice cream, using a frozen piece of poop as a spoon.

Standard TVs are really cheap now, even ones with component input. It's well worth it to track one down.

I used to play on a standard TV until I got the VGA cable. Most of the games looked great but there were two that gave me gamma problems. GRAW and Burnout. Burnout was almost unplayable on some tracks due to how dark it was. I'd recommend the VGA cable to you if you can use it (which I assume you can since you're posting here). Otherwise, a standard TV should do fine. Some games I didn't even notice much of a difference in graphics (CoD2, Fight Night).

Oh and hey Kayden, is your avatar the frog from that old PC math game called Math Muncher or something along those lines? That game rocked.

I think the question should be whether or not it looks marketdly better than the last generation's consoles on a regular definition television, and I'd say that's a resounding yes. I play the system on both an HDTV and a regular television (depending on whether or not the HDTV is being used at the time), and while the resolution's nifty and adds clarity, it does nothing more than make it look sharper. The games are just as fun regardless of your resolution.

That being said, you can always get the VGA adapter and simply plug it into a monitor to get the HDTV experience. Granted, in a much smaller screen (it letterboxes the picture, making it even -smaller-).

I have it on a standard TV, and the graphics still blow away anything from the last generation.

Only an elitist prick will tell you not to bother on standard def. Went from standard to HD, and while there was a difference, it definatly would not have swayed my choice to have a 360 or not.

I don't care if it's through RF, it's still going to look good. Just look at it this way. If you buy a 360 now, it will only excite you again when you get either a TV that supports component or accepts 720p (HD). Almost like a new console.

i played it on a regular TV, and it still looked orgasmic to me, so DEFINITELY!! YES!!

Then how can you possibly tell him no?

Let's look at this scenerio:

A guy is looking to trade in his...oh, I don't know...let's go with an Oldsmobile. He has recently come into some cash, and wants to get something new and expensive. He asks his friend to come along to help him decide, and comes across a car he likes:

Guy: "Should I test drive this Porsche?"
Friend: "No."
Guy: "Why not?"
Friend: "Because I imagine it handles crappily, and a Porsche isn't as good as a Lambourgini."

How does the friend know how the Porsche handles if he's never driven it? Sure, the Porsche is no Lambourgini, but it's still a HELL of a lot better than an Oldsmobile.

Catch my drift?

Sorry for the stupid question, but I just got my 360 yesterday. Is it commonplace for retail 360 games to be playable in 16:9 only? I ask because I downloaded a couple of demos(GRAW and Hitman 4 are the ones I remember for sure) that are played back letterboxed, but I was playing my full copy of Call of Duty 2 and IIRC it was playable in 4:3. I'm wondering if it's because limitations of it perhaps being a one-size-fits-all demo

I think some games are forced to be letterbox but Im not sure since Ive only had a 360 for a couple of days. Fight night round 3 and the outfit are letterbox (not demos but the real games).

Will I see a noticable difference if I get a VGA adapter and plug it into my laptop? My laptop (Emachines M6811) has another port that can be used for video... Composite or maybe componet... its a yellow connection that kinda looks like what keyboards plug into. Would either the VGA or this "Mystery connection" give me better looking gaming than a standard tv?

it should give you hd.
