Ok so I'm not gonna make a topic "GetTin PsP soon, What Gam3z ShuLd I Gte?! LoL!1"---Nah..cuz there's a few games Im intertested in, and would do my research on what I want..:P

BUT, I do have a question regarding the memory stick. Now obviously an answer of the 1GB or 2GB card as best choice: But on average, how much space does a game save take???? I know the bundle pack comes with a 32mb memory stick.. how sufficient is that--IF it is at all??

Now I obviously won't be getting a ton of games at first, but what's a good starter card? Or just go straight to the 1GB or 2GB?

And also--What's the frameware I read about every now and then. I just started readin SOME messages on the message board.. so I really don't know much at all about the PSP.

Really could use some help/info. No flames, just info :)
Thaaaanks all!

Unless you find an old "Value Pack" you won't get a memory stick with your new "Core System" PSP. The best thing to do is get that 1gb stick for 24.95 in the deals section right now. That's enough for some tv shoes, all your game saves, some ablums, and some pics.

And if your talking about "firmware" its an update for the psp software. If you don't plan on using your psp for emulation then you'll want to update to the newest version 2.7 so you can have flash and wma support.

Would you be using it just to save games? Or to dl MP3s, movies and files?

I'm fairly new to the PSP also and it seems that the 32MB mem stick would be enough if you'll be using it only to save your games. I have about 4 games saved on my 32MB mem stick and still have plenty of space left.

And yes, LOL i meant Firmware.. my fault!!..I'm confused with what you said--if I don't plan on using it for emulation, I should update it?? What is it exactly and why should I upgrade if I don't plan to emulate??

For just game saves 32mb is more than enough, but if you want to put movies on it you might as well go for the 1 or 2gb sticks...they have become pretty cheap.

even if you are getting tons of games, a 32 MB is enough as you can copy save files to a computer.

If you don't want to use the various emulators that let you play older games like super nintendo and stuff, you should upgrade it. If you do want to use the emulators, then you cannot upgrade because the newer firmwares don't allow you to play them. You should upgrade if you don't use the emu's because they have some pretty cool stuff in the different upgrades sometimes.....first it was the web browser and now, as someone already mentioned, the ability to play wma's and flash stuff.

That's my take on it.

And another question..If I'm putting on TV Shows/Movies ..Do they have to be in a certain format? And how does that all work--Is it like iTunes to Ipod..plug it into the PC and everything else is pretty self explanatory after that??

SO, in a way: The PSP is kinda like.. a portable gaming PC? (hope that doesnt offenend hardcore PC gamers or sony gamers..lol)..but..in that sense?

To browse the internet is that free? ANNNNDDD what games are currently wi-fi? All the wi-fi games have fees?

K im done for now..seriously. Sorry for the 830480 questions..sigh

They need to be in .mp4 format...there are many many free programs out there to do this.

Kinda...actually more like a portable PS2

Yeah its free to browse the web...not a very good web browser, but it still works for basic things.

And all online PSP game are free...ones I can think of now are Xmen Legends 2, Syphon Filter, Socom...and uh...someone else can finish the list

If you're buying new, most likely your PSP won't be able to do much, if anything, with the homebrew stuff. It really depends onwhat you want to do with your system. If all you want to do is save games, 128MB or less will be plenty.

As for updating, here's what you need: http://www.us.playstation.com/PSP/Support/SystemUpdate/pc_200.html

Updating your PSP can be done via Wifi, or you can download the files to your PC, and transfer them to the memory card with a USB cable. Firmware is a permanent upgrade to the hardware of your PSP, and you definitely should update every time it is available. If you want to emulate, do it on your home PC. Not updating your firmware can affect your ability to play the newer PSP games.

To get videos to the correct PSP format (.mp4), you should use the program PSP Video 9. It's a free download. Also, here is a link to a tutorial for getting DVDs and other video files to your PSP: http://jakeludington.com/ask_jake/20050328_convert_dvd_movies_for_your_sony_psp.html

There are no fees to play any PSP games online. Almost all the games support the ad-hoc wireless, and many support infrastructure.

really really appreciate all the help. Once I actually get it, I'm sure lots of things will be very self explanatory. Just trying to get the basic knowledge of things now.
Thanks everyone :)

My core system I picked up a little over a week ago was 2.0. I upgraded it immediately tho, since I don't have any interest in homebrew. And hey, the 2.71 upgrade that just came out allowed me to play the LocoRoco demo. :)

I own all of one game right now - been waiting on the buy-2-get-1 EB sale starting tomorrow to stock up! ;)
