View Full Version : FAKE Sega Genesis 3 systems?

Looking for some help here guys. I recently purchased a Sega Genesis 3 system (sold under Majesco Sales, Inc) and need to know whether or not it's a genuine/legit product or a knock-off. I've read elsewhere that quite a few counterfeit Genesis 3 systems were produced.

According to the site http://www.vgmuseum.com/systems/genesis/....the Model # for the Genesis 3 systems are: MK-1641

However under my system, the Model # listed is MK-1461

Is this Model # legit?

Does anyone know if my system is legit or not.....and are there other ways to spot a counterfeit Genesis 3 system from an authentic one?

Majesco licensed the Genesis hardware, as well as the Game Gear, to put them back on the market. It also got the rights to a ton of games, which it put out at budget prices. I'm not sure, but I think they had an exclusive deal with Toys R Us.

I wouldn't worry if I was you. Why would someone counterfeit technology that is that obsolete? Doesn't make sense.

Out of curiosity, where/when did you pick it up?

Out of curiosity, where/when did you pick it up? Bought one off eBay. The only reason I ask is because the model # was different from the ones that I've seen on Genesis-related websites. I also see no reason to knock-off a very old gaming system, but that's what I heard elsewhere (they could be wrong I guess).

Also can someone tell me if the controller plug (head) on the Genesis 3 is duplicate to the Genesis 1 & 2 models? I was thinking of purchasing a wireless controller but unsure if it's compatible with the Genesis 3 system. I tried "googling" it, but couldn't find anything.

Maybe the site, gasp, made a typo? Infact, they did. Mine, purchased from TRU myself, 86or so years ago is 1461.
