ok, i'm really sorry about the freqency of these threads but you guys are the experts so i figured i'd ask again. what does the speed on a memory card mean? what's a good core clock and memory clock speed?

Should be obvious. Faster speed means greater data throughput. MHz meaning million cycles per second to be specific. Are you confused about the bandwidth numbers perhaps? As is the case with all things computer related, faster is generally better. However, there are many factors to consider, especially in regards to video cards, that you can't say "this speed is good, everything else sucks."

Are you talking about CPUs and RAM?

No, graphics card, I'm buying a new one and I can't decide on which one. It needs to be PCI-E and have S-video out and run oblivion, fear and half life 2

Wow... I happen to have just the thing for you.

I'm selling my PCI-E card and I know for a fact that it plays oblivion smokingly.

Its in great shape and has a lifetime warranty. Since its used, its going to be cheaper too. ^_^

Its a 7800GT, PM me if you want more info.

The 7800GT is a pretty damn good card, it would run Oblivion very nicely. If Kayden is giving it up for a decent price I would buy it, considering the lifetime warranty.

I was referring to dtarasev moving in on the graphics card. I don't get funny...

I thought he was simply saying "I" as a hypothetical "I". As in, "I would buy it if I were you"... not as in "I am gonna buy it if Kayden offers it at a decent price".

I could be wrong, but that's how I took it...

Who would have known that dtarasev would be so deep... Makes one wonder.

Ok, how do I know what power supply I have? And what cards support direct x 8.1 sound and what's better than the ATI X800 series and a GEforce 6800 that also supports Oblivion and can be found for less than 180 on newegg. In fact, what's the best card in that range?

No, no. I have no intention of buying the card. As much as I would want to, I do not have the money for it and it is a bit too soon to upgrade for me.

I just meant that it would be an excellent idea for you to work out a deal with Kayden.

Look on the back of your computer, where the power cord plugs in. It may be OEM so just post the sepcs here, but most PSUs with over 350w should be able to handle most cards. But I suggest you have a 450w or higher.

Direct X 8.1 sound? Do you mean just DirectX 8.1? The two cards you mentioned support 9 I belive.

I suggest the 7600GT. Although the 7800 GT is better. The 7600 Gt is on sale for $150 on Newegg :

It would run Oblivion very nicely.

Thank you very much Cag. I think I'll go with the newegg one. It seems to fit all my standards and be well within my price range.
