I hope this doesn’t come off as "I HAZ TEH SWEET 360, WH4T SHOULD i GET???/" but i do have a few questions...

i just picked up the bundle at bestbuy, therefore, i now only enough spouse approved budget left for one game. i like shooters and action/adventure titles. so i though maybe call of duty 2, but im not sure if im so excited about the WWII theme. should i just wait for prey? i mainly bought it for gears of war, but that is obviously a ways out.

table tennis also looks pretty good. is it worth the $40?

why does the extended warranty card say 59.95 now, or just 49.95 if deferred on a credit card? whats up with that? is it the same coverage? they just give you a discount if you use a cc?

if i just sign up for a silver membership, i can download arcade games and demo's, but i cant play *any* online 360 games?

thanks for the help.

1. FPS would be either GHOST RECON or Call of Duty2, both are damn good and have replayability. Condemned is a GREAT game also, just rather short

2. XBOX LIVE Silver is free....I believe you can download all the demos. I would do that first and then choose your game. You can get LOTS of demos now.

Haha, well at least you kept all your questions in one thread (relief). And, referring to the shooter question, Call of Duty 2 would be your best bet if you are restricted to a Silver account (single player only) but it depends on what you like more. Definitely hit up all the demos that you can find, though, that will be a better deciding factor than anything we can say. Also, if you only have money for one game, I wouldn't advise spending it on Table Tennis, unless you are that hooked on it and don't play it in person. It is worth $40, though, if you look at pretty much any review. You are also correct about the Silver vs. Gold question, you can send messages, chat, download whatever, and shop around for content..everything a Gold member can do but just not play the 360 games online. Someone else can help with the warranty question, as I have no clue.

COD2 is good. It's one of the best shooters out there. Prey seems more like a mediocre shooter with a gimmick attached. You can't go wrong with COD2. Regarding action/adventure titles, Tomb Raider: Legend is great, but it's not exclusive to the 360. Condemned is a great action game, but it's short.. not worth the buy. Battlefield 2 is a good shooter as well, but that seems like it's more of an online-oriented game. Ghost Recon: AW is a GREAT combination of shooter and strategy if you like that mix.. it's very tense and very challenging.

I guess it all depends on how much you like table tennis. It has a singles mode and a tournament mode and that's it. I think half the fun of it is the online mode(s).. I definately wouldn't pick it up if I couldn't play on live, but again, it all depends on how much you like the genre.

I believe that's correct, through they do have free weekends every now and then when you can play games online.

You are also correct about the Silver vs. Gold question, you can send messages, chat, download whatever, and shop around for content..everything a Gold member can do but just not play the 360 games online.

Text chat only, right? I didn't think you could talk to other people via mic if you only had a silver account.

this is kinda hard if you are gonna remain a silver member...i think i would just recommend oblivion. although shooters like pdz, cod2, graw, etc. are all decent offline, their main draw is online multiplayer, which you won't be able to do as a silver member. with that said, oblivion offers the most bang for your buck for a single player game on the 360. if you're not into rpgs, then i don't know what to say...i'm not into rpgs either, but i really like oblivion.

i definitely recommend NOT buying condemned or kameo. both a really good games for a single play through but they are both short and offer little to no replay value. and honestly, i don't think cod2 is worth $60 either. it's really cool and immersive, but it starts to feel very repetitive pretty early.

your best move might be to rent kameo, condemned, and cod2 and then buy oblivion.

EDIT: i'd just take advantage of the new download manager feature and download a ton of demos. you can get demos of most of the best games (but no oblivion)...pdz, kameo, pgr3, graw, condemned, bf2, and much more. just queue up 6 and come back in a few hours...i'd also recommend checking out the demos for burnout, tomb raider, some of the ea sports games, and lost planet. there is supposed to be a table tennis demo at some point as well.

i only got it this early because of the bestbuy deal. i had planned to get it in nov with gears of war (whenever it ends up getting released)

so i guess i'll try to get er online this week and get some demos.

thanks

That is very sound advice for off-line gaming. Oh, and get a XBLM point card and DL Geometry Wars...

Slightly off topic -

Unlike Scorch, I'm psyched about Prey. I think it'll come out a little under the radar and surprise a lot of people. A good "gimmick" is all it takes sometimes to distinguish a game, and I think Prey has more than that. The gravity defying maps/puzzle element, the portals, the spirit walking and death walking both... I've read hands on reports that it's running a locked 30 fps and may end up at 60. IGN had an early prediction that it may top unexpectedly top Gears of War in just the sheer originality of gameplay. I'm well aware that all of this is hype and speculative, but I'm hoping this is a solid sci-fi shooter with a review average that ends up in the mid 80%'s and has some unique mp aspects. We'll know soon enough... Demo will be available June 22 on XBLM.

I don't know anyone with a 360 either but I couldn't imagine my 360 without a Gold account. It's really fun playing online anyway - especially Uno.

Definitely...I went to having a few CAGs on my list to having all but 19 (out of 89) being non-CAGs. It's a good way to ensure that someone will always be on playing and that there will be a variety of games for you to hop in.

Call MS for your warranty, don't mail the card. When I called to register my Xbox I got the warranty for $39.95 for 2 years, this was about a month ago.

If you like RPGs at all, The Elder Scrolls Chapter IV - Oblivion.

I've had it for over a month and I'm still playing it daily, and still regularly losing sleep over repeated workdays to it.

I haven't loved a game this much since 1997.... The Elder Scrolls Chapter II - Daggerfall.

GRAW is great too, btw.

... BUT DAMMIT! I WANT GEARS OF WAR IN THE WORST WORST WAY! WANT NOW DAMMIT!!! HALO AND GHOST RECON ROLLED INTO ONE! I WANT MY CHAINSAW BAYONET!!! =)

$50 for a year, or $5.99 a month. If you're not sure, give it a try for a month or two before you make a big investment. Its well worth it for me, but its not for everyone.

Yep, I called them to register my 360 and just asked them if I could buy the warranty over the phone instead of mailing in the card. The guy said it was 39.95 for 2 years and that's all they charged me.

Also if you end up not liking it or using it enough then don't forget to cancel it because they will automatically renew it and charge your card if you don't (which really is standard procedure anymore for most online subscribtions unfortunately).

Yup. It's in the system settings - you've got to turn it off.

i just got off the phone with them. they said it was 29.95 for 1 year, and 59,95 for 2 year. and no discounts.

so i guess i am getting the cc paid 49.95 for 2 year.
