Did you mean DS games? I was in there a couple of days ago and they had a good selection overall if you look through all the new games. DS games were pretty light though with the usually suspects. There clearance section is getting bare, but like I said you can still find quite a bit in the new game section. They still have MK LE PS2, DOA Ulitmates, Batman Rise of TZU box, etc. behind the counter without any clearance pricing. I plan on stopping in tomorrow when I return my movies and can look for you if you list the ones you are looking for...
No, Dreamcast. And I answered my own question, they don't have anymore. I was also looking for some off of the clearance list for PSP, didn't have any of those, either.
I may hit another one (skipping the Lassiter one...they always suck) this weekend, but I'm not holding out hope.

Haven't seen any dreamcast games at any GR in the Cobb/Cherokee area and I have hit several in the past few months. Funny enough the perimeter CC store still has a few new dreamcast games in a bin with the markdown games. Basically the old sports games...

That's pretty crappy. Only place to find them now is Rhino or PnT, and both are marking them up like there is no tomorrow.
BTW, has anyone hit Rhino on 92/Trickum lately? Just noticed it there tonight. I'm going to hit the two PnTs tomorrow or Saturday and see if I can find any cheap Saturn or DC games.
Has anyone checked out my DC DVD-size artwork yet? Looks pretty good, but I might be a bit impartial...:D

I'm kinda torn though. I love doing it, and would love to have them in current-gen style cases, but they look so good already, and the PSP and DS cases are so different, too (CD is exact same height as DS). I dunno...

It's nearly impossible to find games anymore. I'm browsing ebay right now. I want games, but I don't want to pay $18 for MSR. WTF?
I'd make these covers all day long, but I wish I could either get donations or someone to print them for me so I could enjoy them, too. Printed one out, it looks good, but it's a huge drain on my ink. Especially living on only a stipend.

I don't kno wwhere Trickum is. I think I recall seeing DC games at the game shopin Discover Mills mall. It's a few doors across the hall from Books a Million.

Been to the Rhino on 92 recently, but I never look at the Dreamcast games. The older systems games are marked up quite a bit though as you said. Rhino is hit and miss on alot of things, but you can find some decent priced used games in there on occasion. As long as they continue to have the trade 2 for 1 deal going on I will hit them up. The best thing I noticed in there last week was a copy of ikaruga in good shape. There are tons of Rhino's around the Atlanta surburbs and anytime I see one I normally walk in. For some reason they have a knack for not pissing me off like eb/gamestop does.

There's been widespread reports of copy places not printing not only total custom work, but especially ones like I've done. It doesn't hurt to try though, but you have to do so much work to make sure they don't screw up the size, or charge you nearly $5 to open each file.

Taiko for $25? This Kmart is only a few minutes from me, but I can't stand going in there. It's always so hot. But Taiko for $25, I may venture in for that.
Did you see this thread? Reports of Taiko markdown to $9.99 at target. I bought it using the $5 off coupon last year at Best Buy. I don't remember the exact price but I think it was $4.99 with the coupon. Its decent to mess around with for a bit, but beatmania, guitar hero, and donkey konga are all better related games...

Well, there is a working price scanner in the RZone at Northpoint, so I was able to check a few prices. None of the ones from the list that I tried were marked down yet. Well, Xmen Legends II had a shelf tag of 30, and rang up at 20, but I figured that was just an old shelf tag. All the others rang up the same as their tags.

I worked night crew back in the day for several years at TRU and I still know a few workers at Buckhead, Northpointe, and TC. Been keeping in touch trying to find out about the price drops and if I hear anything I will let everyone know...
Hey neocisco do you remember the ATL Cag who works at TRU? He could probably keep us up to speed the best...

Well, checked out the Rhino on 92 and got three used guides, a VMU and a N64 official rumble pak. Their DC prices are horrendous, especially when it's disc only. I proceeded to Crazy Game Trader (formerly the PlayNTrade next to Willys in Kennesaw) and picked up DC-MSR, DC-Shenmue (my case was messed up and I was missing the manual) and Saturn-Sega Rally for $27.

Just throwing it out there, but has anyone else tried this chain called The Movie Post lately? Its been a few months since I've been to one, but when I was last there, I had picked up some pretty good deals on used Xbox games, like Red Dead Revolver and Manhunt for $5 each, and Mercenaries, Jade Empire and GTA San Andreas for $9 apiece. They also have, from time to time, insane deals on older 'new' games still sealed, like when I picked up THUG 2 and the first Brothers In Arms for $5 apiece...Guess it was an overstock or something. I didn't bother asking, I just bought 'em! ;)
Anyway, when I was last visiting them, there was one by Northlake, one on Roswell Rd., and one near Cumberland Mall (the TRU shopping center). They also sell used PS2 games and of course DVDs, CDs and some VHS tapes with some pretty good deals on their used stuff. If you happen to run across one...IF they're still around!...You might wanna check 'em out. 8-)

Sounds like you're talking about the Movie Trading Company. Unfortunately, they pulled out of the Atlanta market this past winter. All the stores have been closed since around February. I never found good deals on games there, but they did provide me with a steady supply of cheap Criterion DVDs. I miss them terribly. :(

Yeah I always did well at MTC and they had great trade in values. You always could find good used box sets there. He could be talking about The movie stop, but I only been in there once at the town center location. I think there are 5 or 6 in GA. Its owned by gamestop and has some games, but mainly carries dvd's...

Rhino started to markdown quite a few titles. I was in the store at 92/trickum today. Here is what I recall. I posted the games in the Rhino Video Game Clearance thread as well, but Rhino threads never last more then a day or 2 usually since its only in the southeast. They had some of the games on a table with controllers and other items markdown. Several of the games are still on the wall, you can spot the markdown since they all end in .50. Remember they normally only have a few copies of a new games, with one being the display copy. There were quite a few older PS2/Xbox titles marked down as well.

Well, there is still a decent selection of clearance items at the Mars Hill GR. Bunch of Xbox and PS2 titles, a couple GC and DS titles. Nothing shockingly outstanding, but more than what I've seen otherwise.
Went to the Trade N Play (apparently I've had it backwards) and picked up Gilmore Girls S4 for $10. They had Smallville S3 for $15, but I haven't started collecting those yet. One day...

Most Rhinos are in the surburbs, check the store locater www.rhinovideogames.
MTC was one of dozens of other chains blockbuster owns (Rhino is as well). Basically after the terrible earnings they are trying to fight off chapter 11. They tried to sell MTC and there was no takers, but they only gave it about 2 months. I miss the cash/credit trade in values. Of course getting $1-2 trade in credit for any VHS tape pretty much told you they were going to have problems long term...

Yeah, they took pretty much anything. I liquidated quite a few crappy DVDs through them and fleshed out my Criterion collection quite a bit. They always had obscure titles there (though if they were new they were generally MSRP). The really exciting time was when they would have B2G1 sales on everything in the store. You had to get one of their circulars in the mail, which had this coupon. They wouldn't give them out in store and would not accept copies, so it was actually a valuable deal. They did it quarterly. Doing B2G1 on Criterions (adding in trade-in credit to boot) was the retail equivalent of an Ecstasy high.

Stopped by Rhino again today and all the clearance prices dropped again days after dropping the first time. They are really trying to push these titles out. The Rhino clearance thread has more details, but there are several PSP games $9.50-$14.50 (Katamari, Generation Chaos, Legends of Heroes II). Basically all the clearance prices dropped in half it looks like. PDZ, PGR3 and Full Auto for the 360 are under $20 for the new copies only. Used are not on sale. I know this is a little off-topic, but I thought I'd share a slightly funny story from yesterday...
Fry's had NCAA Football '07 in their ad for $29.99. Circuity City has it in their ad for $39.99 with a free strategy guide. However, I had $40 in Best Buy GC's and they had it for $49.99 (figures, right?). Anywhoo, I took the Fry's and CC ads into Best Buy to PM. I had the Fry's ad out and the CC ad in my pocket as a backup in case they didn't match Fry's (Fry's listed the game as $49.99 with a $20 "instant gift rebate") due to ambiguity in the Fry's ad. I also brought up the strategy guide to get ONLY if I wound up having to match CC.
The customer service woman was neither friendly, nor rude or mean and she had to have like a huddle meeting with a colleague for several minutes regarding the "instant gift rebate" thing. She wound up having to call Fry's who supposedly said it was "out of stock". She came back to tell me with a hint of a smirk in a way saying "sorry, pal, but we can't do it. HA HA!". Of course, she didn't actually say that. It was merely her subtext. Sensing her feeling of victory, I immediately whipped out the CC ad and told her "that's OK, because I have plan B!". She looked rather dumbfounded and defeated and gave me the $39.99 and free guide w/o calling CC.
I think BB CSR's get a sense of pleasure when someone tries to PM something and the CSR has a "legitimate" reason to deny it. It was nice to sort of have the last laugh.....

Well, it looks like you and I have unintentionally hijacked this thread. ;)
Where did everybody else go? This thread was hopping there for a little while....
Anyway, I think I'm going back to that TRU tomorrow to get XBOX Serious Sam 2 for $9.96. I had it in my hand yesterday debating and I put it down and I thought to myself "I should get it, because I know I'll change my mind and want to come back and get it." Sure enough, I now realize I should always follow my first instinct. Fortuanately, they had a bunch of copies, so I should be OK....

The Kennesaw TRU had 9 copies of Xenosaga II for $5 today.
I also got in 7 copies of Total Overdose-PS2 at my store today ($4). I think it still qualifies for the trade 2 get 1 at Rhino. Plus it might also still get $12 at GR (before $5 bonus).

It's called "Awesome! I F-in shot that!", or something like that. It's concert footage where they handed out 60 camcorders to people all over the arena and edited it all together. It was the one that was at Regal Cinemas a few months ago for a one-night only concert. There's also 2 1/2 hours of extras too. Not a huge prize, but I never win anything, so it's big to me. :)

Ah, okay. I read something about that on DVD Talk. Cool.
Biggest thing I ever won was a 52" (non-HD) TV from the East Lake Publix. It was the big prize in their grand opening celebration contest. There was just this little shoebox with a hole cut out of the top for entries, with a few pads of sheets just asking for name, address, and phone. I found the manager and asked if there was any rule against entering multiple times and he said, "Ummm...Does it say you can't do that on the sheet?" It didn't, so I filled out about 150 of them on my lunch breaks over the next few days (I was working with AmeriCorps at the time, serving in an elementary school down there).
I had completely forgotten about it when they called me two months later to come pick it up. We had to borrow my Dad's truck and none of the store employees would help us because they had been using it in their break room and were pissed about having to give it up (in fact, they kept the remote and I had to go back later to get it). The thing was massive, but thankfully it had wheels, so between my wife, my friend, and I, we were able to get it into the pickup. Getting it down the stairs into the apartment we were in at the time was a BITCH, however.

I know beggers can't be choosers and all, but it's kinda crappy that they were using your prize in their break room. They shouldn't have been allowed to open it, if it was going to be used as a prize. Still, great work!

It was in good shape. Still looked new, so I wasn't about to complain. They still had the box, actually, though we had to take it back out because it wouldn't fit in the (full-size) pickup truck with it. We smashed it down and used it as a slide/ramp help get it in and out of the truck and to cushion it while it was in there.
The sad part was I had to sell it about two years later. We moved to Greenville last year and it wouldn't have fit in our house up there. Went for $375 in a yard sale. The TV itself wasn't that great. It was more about the fact that I had won it. The real irony is we ended up moving back less than 8 mos. later. My wife eased the pain by promising we'd get an HDTV in the near future, which we did last month. It's much smaller (32" LCD HDTV) but the picture's a million times better and it doesn't take up half the living room.

There's a game store I've passed twice now on 41 (cobb pkway) up in Acworth past the new Target and CC, near to where the new super Wally is going. Called Trade and Play I think. Can anyone say if it's worth stopping in?

It's been a week since anybody posted.
So, uh, what's up?
Traffic sucked even more than usual this morning.
Has anybody been to the aquarium?
My favorite employee at the Kennesaw Gamestop (Wal-Mart) quit a couple of weeks ago. Now I have even less reason to go there.
These random thoughts brought to you by my boredom. Who's next?
Dude, I went to the Aquarium on New Year's Day. It was awesome. It's the best aquarium I've ever been to and I've been to Chatanooga, TN, Monterey, CA and a few others I can't remember.....

Anyone stop by the Roswell Comp USA. I was in there 2 weeks ago right after they said it was closing. When I was they hadn't started the markdowns yet. When they hit 40-50% off it will probably be worth checking out...

FYI... Not sure if anyone is a Cirque Du Soleil (http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/CirqueDuSoleil/en/default.htm) fan here, but they are coming to ATL Dec. 15th - January 7th. The show is the new show Corteo and tickets are on sale today to Cirque Du Solei club members. Just go to their website and sign up for a free account to purchase tickets. Tickets runs $52.50-$75 and the shows are well worth it. My wife loves the shows and I always take her when they come, usually a new show every year or every other year.

I love Cirque, though the only show I've seen live is Mystere (twice) in Vegas. Where are they having it? The lot near the Galleria that they used the last few times is now the construction site of the Cobb County Performing Arts Center (or something like that).

Sufjan Stevens. A friend just recommended him to me. I listed to some of his stuff and liked it a lot. Might have to buy one of his CD's soon.
He's making an album for each of the 50 states, right? Is that really a realistic endeavor, or is it something he's starting, but knows he's not going to be able to accomplish? If so, that would be an amazing feat. How many artists release 50 albums??

He did say that was his goal, though some have interpreted it to be kind of an elaborate joke. He's released albums that aren't part of the states project ("Seven Swans" came out between "Michigan" and "Illinois," and "Avalanche," his latest, is a collection of B-Sides, rarities, and alternate versions of "Illinois" tracks) and has since said that there are some states he has no interest in doing, like Texas. Also, he seems to have grown weary of fans and interviewers asking him which state is next, so it wouldn't surprise me if he got fed up with the whole idea.
On the other hand, I think his creativity and output are prodigious enough to make it happen. The fact that "Avalanche" is essentially leftovers and is very nearly as good as "Illinois" (which was universally tapped as the best album of 2005) suggests to me that he could do it. Even if he never produced another album, however, he'd still be one of the most brilliant artists alive.
Incidentally, I'd recommend starting with "Illinois" and working out from there.

I sometimes listen to 88.5 and WABE, but mainly I'm just listening to my iPod these days. Commercial radio is a cultural wasteland. Albums I'm loving right now (in addition to Sufjan):
Jenny Lewis & The Watson Twins - Rabbit Fur Coat
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings the Flood
Thom Yorke - Eraser
David Mead - Tangerine
Eagerly awaiting the new albums from Old Crow Medicine Show and the Indigo Girls. If you're looking for a great source of new music, definitely check out Paste magazine, which is actually produced here in Decatur. They include a free CD and DVD in each bi-monthly issue with tons of great music. Really well written articles, too. Fresher than Pitchfork, more offbeat than Rolling Stone. I hope you guys don't mind, but I thought I'd drop in and plug my trade/sell list. (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92273) I'm trying to clean up my game collection, as such I have N64, Gamecube, PC, and DS games for sale. I'm also selling Antigrav + Eyetoy and (3rd Party) Samba de Amigo maracas. I'll be putting these things on ebay soon, so if you're interested in anything, then let me know. Although not on my list, I also have a 19" flat CRT monitor and a Razor scooter that I'll be putting on Craig's List, so speak up if you're interested.
Normally I would object to people plugging their lists in this thread, but I just thought since I have some larger items, some of you would be interested since we could avoid shipping costs. Also, I thought I could give my fellow ATL CAGs first dibs. Thanks.

Holy crap man, we must've been seperated at birth or something. Not only are we both 30-ish married men in Decatur, but we are listening to very similar music. I absolutely LOVE that Jenny Lewis record, and I've also been digging the Watson Twins' new LP as well. Avalance and Fox Confessor have been in rotation quite a bit too.
My current list:
Bob Dylan "Modern Times"
Beirut "Gulag Orkestar"
Rogue Wave "Decended Like Vultures"
Rufus Wainwright "Want Two"
Guillemots "From the Cliffs"
Summer Hymns "Clemency"
Little Miss Sunshine soundtrack (Devotchka, Sufjan, etc)
I would also recommend visiting Decatur CD or Ella Guru to pick up some fresh, not commercially boring records (I know Tybee knows of these stores....just a tip for the youngsters out there!).

Well, if you're expecting a Rilo Kiley type sound, then you will be disappointed. Her solo record is more country-oriented with a spash of old-school soul ans a little r'n'r.

Hello again, fellow ATLiens.....
I have a fairly noobish question that I'm too embarassed to ask in the appropriate forum, for fear of endless ridicule, so I'll ask here to the people I know won't give me a hard time....;)
I have an XBOX and hope to get a 360 soon. My Live subscription ran out a few months ago, and I'm thinking about getting a new one b/c I hear it will transfer over to a 360. I also hear if you buy a gold for the 360, it will NOT transfer down to the XBOX.....
With that verbose setup now in place, my question is wouldn't it just make sense to buy a Live membership for the old XBOX and then transfer it to the 360?? That because I will be able to get on Live on the old XBOX AND the 360 that way.....Is that accurate???
It just doesn't make sense to buy a 360 gold membership if I also have the old XBOX...
Thanks guys and gals....

According to this (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/account/migrationfaq.htm) you would be correct. But, it also states you can use either Xbox no matter how you purchase it.
No matter which system you were using when you started your Xbox Live membership, you can sign in to Xbox Live from either console as long as you maintain the same gamertag and keep your membership paid up.

However, after digging in my collection for some trades. I walked in today thinking by now Phoenix would have been gone. Shocking as it may sound, there were now a total of THREE, new Ace Attorneys in stock.
So, having to pay only $10 after trades, there are now two copies left if anyone is still looking for that game

Here's a little somethin' just for the ATL CAG's. All of the Donkey Konga games have dropped to $15 to $20, depending on the title. The Kennesaw store still has 2 copies of DK w/drums in stock. They're still tagged at $49.99 but will sell for $19.99. They're on the bottom of the GC accessory section. There are also 3 copies of Donkey Konga 2 and 1 Donkey Konga: Jungle Beat. I think those are $14.99 each and they have been tagged. I'm off tomorrow so go get 'em if you want 'em (or check a store closer to you). I'm not posting these prices under CC markdowns until Friday so you guys have a headstart. Enjoy.

Hey guys,
Just curious about who here is planning to pick up a Wii at launch. Where do you plan to get it? Are you preordering? All-nighting? I want it on day 1, but I'm not sure how to go about it. Except for portables, this will be the first console I'm going after on launch day. Gwen, I noticed you've been active in some of the Wii pre-order threads. What are your plans? Maybe we should start organizing.
Also, has anyone seen Cooking Mama at any of the BB's around town? I want to get it with a GGC but haven't found it yet.

I've never preordered simply because I've never seen the point, even for something like this where there is a genuine chance of shortages (though probably not if Nintendo puts out 4 million before the end of the year, as they're saying they will). But there will always be eBay assholes, and that means all bets are off, especially as far as getting it in the first couple weeks.
That said, I really don't think there will be any deals along the lines of the free Brain Age with DS Lite. That was for a re-release of an existing system and was more to create awareness. Retailers know people are going to be lined up for the Wii and PS3 and hence have no motivation to offer deals. New consoles beget bundle rip-offs, not deals.
My plan is to get the console itself on launch day wherever I can, then use as many GGCs as I can to get an extra remote, nunchuku, and a couple games at BB.

I had been planning to pre-order my Wii at the Northlake Mall EB, but I decided a few weeks back that it wasn't such a great idea. See, my house has been for sale, and I knew that I'd likely be moved (I'm going to San Francisco) before the Wii launch. Boy am I glad I pre-ordered from Amazon instead; sure as shit, my house sold yesterday (!!!!), and I'll be moving to SF in about 3 weeks.
And yes, I am officially panicking about moving 2000+ miles away.;)

San Francisco is going to hurt the wallet, but its a nice place. I was originally slated for a 6 month project out there, but the travel would have killed me. The wife and I might plan a trip out there next year.
As for the Wii I had EB and GR credit set aside to preorder it, but the morning I saw it on Amazon I said screw it and preordered it. I figure I can use the credit on games later on for the 360/Wii. I hate preordering anything, but with only a million units I am not planning on taking a day off to stand in line or anything crazy like that. If Eb does a straight up preorder I plan on grabbing one from there as well. Figure the first one that comes in I will keep. Sell the second to a friend...

I'll be preordering at Edgewood whenever that is announced -- gotta love that half block walk. If theres a problem, there's always BB and Target right there. The Target was pretty unprepared to sell DS Lites on launch day, and apparently rightly so -- I was the only one there, it was like 830 am, and they hadn't even brought it out of the stockroom yet. So while there'd probably be a higher demand and bigger pressure for Target to 'have it together' at Wii launch, I don't think there will be too much stress getting one from that area.

Probably right. More people in Edgewood are worried about scoring weed than video games, methinks. ;)
But I'm boycotting EB/GS for the whole $50 trade-in preorder debacle anyway. Even if it's just in Hawaii, the fact that they're considering such a thing makes me never want to give them my money again.

I've basically halted all game purchasing at this point and have begun allocating Wii funds. So not much of anything going on around here right now. Football and Lego Star Wars II should keep me occupied for a while. ;)
Did anyone else almost have a coronary watching the Georgia/Colorado game?
Yeah, it was friggin' ridiculous. I was incredibly glad they won, but they really deserved to lose. That was pathetic. One bright note: Cox looked really good. I hate to say it, but I was glad Joe T got injured. He's not that great a QB. Stafford has an amazing arm, but he's not ready for full-time duty yet. Perhaps next year.
Anyone hear what happened to David Pollack? Broke his neck and out for year. A shame.....

I'm with you there. Joe T. is obviously an incredibly nice guy, but he doesn't have the talent or the killer instinct to be a starting QB. I think it's still a tossup between Stafford and Cox. Half the problem with Stafford is the receivers don't seem prepared for his arm. But these are the problems you want. Two freshman QBs with loads of talent. I totally agree with Richt's strategy of starting one until he gets into trouble, then swapping in the other. Repeat as necessary until one demonstrates he's ready for the job full time. Keep Joe T. on the bench for emergencies and to signal plays. ;)

I saw that. Cochese's avatar reminded me. It's so sad. I've never enjoyed watching UGA as much as when he and Green were playing. Unfortunately, the way I've heard it, he's out for more than a year. His football career may be over. Somewhere, Lee Corso is weeping.

Last I heard, he was jumping around and 'Being David' in the hospital room, according to Marvin Lewis.
Confirmed (9/18): They expect him to be ready in plenty of time for the 2007 season.

Put it up about two weeks ago, after it happened. Doing great, got a girl in my hands right now. We need some extra money, I posted for help trying to find some WFH jobs. Needless to say, games don't happen unless I hit Rhino's deal.

I used to be Pollack's boss. Yup, that's right. And now he could stomp my ass in two seconds just for fun.
Back when Pollack was a Junior & Senior in HS (he went to my old HS, too), he worked as a dishwasher at Stone Mountain Pizza Cafe. I was the manager at the time, and I had this other kid (Taylor Cox - a not-as-famous player) washing dishes for us. One day, Taylor came in with this fucking enormous dude and said, "This is my buddy David - can you give him a job?" Actually, we did need another dishwasher, so I hired him.
He worked for me for a while, and then went off to school at GA. The next time I saw him, I was sitting in a bar in the Highlands watching a GA game about 2 years later and I about passed out when I saw his ass on TV.
I'm really glad he's gonna be alright. He never really seemed to have much goin' on in the ol' noggin, but he was always nice as shit.

Yes sir. In '01 I ditched Stone Mountain and became the manager of the "sister" store, Avondale Pizza Cafe. My sister-in-law currently works at the 'new' Stone Mountain Pizza Cafe part time.

The Swap USA in Discover Mills mall is switching from Video Games to gambling supplies, and are clearing out their gaming stuff. I *may* have seen some games behind the counter, but I'm not sure.
However, they have TONS of guides marked down to $1.99. A lot of shit, but there is some treasure in there (And a Xenosaga 2 guide for $9.).
I got a Misadventures of Tron Bonne guide and a PN 03 (Just to have the game AND guide) for $4 total.
Worth a look if you're in the area.

Discover Mills is a little too far for me but if anybody can find any guides on my list I would be more than willing to pay for them to be shipped to me plus a $1 extra for each guide. Not a huge incentive, I know, but if anybody can help me out I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Speaking of Kennesaw, I met NeoCisco yesterday. Bought a strategy guide off of him. What a great guy!! =D

I'll probably walk down to the EB at Edgewood at well around 10. I'm working from home in the morning, so it'll be a nice break. I'm not expecting a line, but who knows!

Well, there will be at least two of us there. He wouldn't give me a firm number on the number they're alotting, but said it was small. I suggested around 15 and he said that sounded about right.
I'll probably get there between 8:00 and 9:00 and hang out in the car unless an actual line starts to form.

Only 15?? If all this talk about underestimated production is true, then it should be more than 15.
I was in the Edgewood EB last night and asked them about their PS3 preorders. The (cute) girl said that people were lined up when the employees arrived at 10am. One guy in line claimed he showed up at 2am. They sold out of preorders immediately. Sheesh.
Also, are any of you headed to the Nintendo Fusion Tour at the Tabernacle tomorrow night? I thought about going, but a friend of mine magically received tickets to the Florida/Auburn game, so I'll be headed out of town. I'll be interested to hear how it goes.

The general feeling seems to be that Nintendo is holding back the majority of systems for the Walmarts, Targets, TRUs, and Best Buys of the world, which fits with the system's broader appeal and "Hot Toy" status. And don't forget online retailers. That and they will probably be sending more frequent shipments to GS/EB post launch. You can rest assured all of those extra units we've been hearing about won't just be sitting in a warehouse, that's for sure.
My theory is that even with those high numbers, GS/EB is intentionally understating the Wii numbers they will get at launch, partly to avoid the 360 debacle, and partly to ensure more on hand for people walking in off the street, i.e., like the normal Christmas shoppers and perhaps a few gamers who didn't think they wanted one until 5 minutes after it arrived.

Got to Edgewood around 7:15 only to discover I was 15th in line and the store had 14 alotted for pre-order. *grumble* The earliest guys (Tech students) had gotten there around 2 am and reportedly set up a tent. They maintained a written list of who arrived when, which kept things orderly. I hung around til 10:00 just in case there was a mistake in the number, but no dice. She did advise the SOL's that they quite possibly would be getting more for launch and that we should try calling every evening to see what the deal is. She also said all online preorders would be bundles and that no other B&M retailers would be doing preorders.
There were about 15-20 people in line behind me, not including 10 or so people who walked (and who knows how many driving) by and said screw it. There were a couple of the same people there who had been there earlier in the week for the PS3 pre-order (including one of the guys who actually got one), and they said that there were only 12 people there for that.
Anyone else have any luck? Around 8:00 I asked if anyone there was a CAG but only one or two people even knew what I was talking about. Were you there, simple?

I spoke with the fellow working yesterday, and most of the games are gone (they've been selling their inventory on eBay). They do still have some N64 titles "out back" and if you're looking for a specific game, give them a call to see if they have what you're looking for.
I asked about a complete 3DO system, which he said they also still have for $40, but I know I can beat that price.
However, they have TONS of guides marked down to $1.99. A lot of shit, but there is some treasure in there (And a Xenosaga 2 guide for $9.).
A lot of sports titles at this point. I had fun looking through the bin and straightening everything out (I'm a neat-a-fier, if I'm rummaging through something I naturally straighten the stuff up as I go), but didn't see much.
I got a Misadventures of Tron Bonne guide and a PN 03 (Just to have the game AND guide) for $4 total.
ha! I was looking at those two as well. Tron Bonne not so much, but I was tempted to pick up Vanessa, but not at $3.99 just for the sake of having it. I've used a faq to get every possible outfit/upgrade already.
I also debated picking up Dino Crisis 1 & 2 guides, again because I enjoyed the games (one more than two), and partly because my old friend Dan Birlew wrote the second one. But I'm trying to clear out stuff I don't need
Worth a look if you're in the area.
Definately!
Just a word of caution. If you stop to buy your Mother a coffee at Joe Mugs at Books a Million across the hall, try not to let the older gentleman start talking to you about coffee. I got a 7-minute education about coffee beans, was given different coffee beans to smell, and was offered all sorts of cookies to take. The nicest man, but I had a hard time getting away from there.
Cisco, all I was able to find for you was The Thing strat guide. If you want to shoot me a PM as when it'd be okay to bring it by, that would be great.

Dang, that's just awesome! I got off the phone with the local DM and the Wii preorders sold out in her district by 10 am.
The reason I'm so shocked was because I strolled into my local EB tuesday having forgot all about the ps3 preorder on Monday, and was able to pre-order mine tuesday afternoon. I hadn't realized they reserved one slot for me... I just thought there wasn't the big rush everyone had expected. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v76/guinaevere/smilies/blush.gif
My store rocks, I tell you.
That same afternoon some kid was all excited about the Mortal Kombat and the poster he was able to get. Hearing about a poster, I chimed up, "oh, is there one for me?" The kid tells me you only were able to get one if you pre-ordered the special edition. The AM says, "no she doesn't." The kid begins, "What? I thought it was only for-" The AM interrupts, "No. SHE doesn't." http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v76/guinaevere/smilies/smile_eager.gif
So I also asked about the neato Tales of the Abyss cell which is really what caught my eye, and got that as well. They're too good in there.
What I can't figure out is the DM. That's her anchor store, and by all impressions, she's not terribly keen on me. But when the store manager asks for her to keep an eye out for something for me (like the KHII hearts standee) she goes all out to find it. It's not as if she doesn't know the requests are for me, because she'll keep me updated on whatever it is whenever I see her in the store... *shrugs*
I guess it's just me, I'm intimidated by go go go business women. Even during my corporate years, I just could never identify with that sort of personality. Folks would come into my office and smile at my toys displayed on desks and shelves.
eh... end of ramble. apologies.

That sucks, but you should be fine to get one at Best Buy, provided you camp out the night before. My theory is for the PS3 and Wii releases is your going to have to do some sort of "camping". Whether it be for the pre-order at EB/GS/WM etc., or the actual purchase in November at places that don't do pre-orders (i.e. Best Buy, CC(?)). I would rather "camp" at Best Buy, because (1) they will get the highest quantity and (2) EB/GS make me nervous when it comes to pre-orders. In the past with games and systems, they seem to not get as many as they originally thought, so people who pre-ordered months in advance are still without their product on day 1......
Just my theory, but it's all good no matter which way a person does it. ;)

Yeah, I just didn't want to have to camp TWICE. When I came walking up they looked at me like I was the saddest leper they'd ever seen. "Duuuuude. Sucks to be you."
One of the guys in line this morning said that his friend works at the Edgewood BB and that they would be getting, I believe, 58 Wiis. I'll be honest and admit that I forget the exact number he said. But he seemed very sure about it and acted like it was common knowledge. Whatever. My plan at this point is to hit a 24-hour Wal-Mart on Saturday night, then if that doesn't pan out, camp at the Best Buy or Target at Edgewood bright and early (a.k.a. 2 fucking AM) Sunday morning.

I did that for the PS2 back in 2000 at the Stone Mountain Best Buy. It was pretty cold, but, honestly, I had a lot of fun. I was there with a couple of friends, and the waiting and anticipation made it worthwhile.
Your Wal-Mart idea might be the best. Would they just put it on sale at Midnight? I would think so. That would eliminate the need to camp....

Yeah, but the catch there is that everything just timeshifts backwards. So people will start camping there Saturday morning, I imagine.
I think it would be a good idea for us to organize, if only to head off the same frustration I went through this morning. Might also be a good excuse to have a meet. Is anyone else planning to get the Wii on Nov. 19?

You betchya. I was planning on picking one up at a Sam's Club, unless they only have absurd bundles.
But I'd be up for camping out with some fellow CAGs, definately. Don't think I'm paranoid, but I'd actually prefer that than waiting during dark hours of the night or morning with total strangers. It just sounds a tad safer. Of course, having met almost none of you, I could be totally wrong. =P
And to answer Ubii's question about 24 hour Wal-Marts who sell at 12am, Tybee is absolutely correct. There will be people waiting as early as 6pm Saturday night in the Layaway area.

Wal-mart is an easy choice: you're most likely inside, people with you can go buy you chips and Vault to keep you comfy, hell, you could even snah a chair from Lawn & Garden. That sounds easy to me. Plus, no overnight crap.
BTW, isn't WW getting rid of their layways?

Yeah, I got my 360 at the 24 hr Walmart at lawrenceville HWy. Went on sale at Midnight. People would volunteer to make runs to the Mcdonalds inside, get red bull, get candy, beef jerky, etc. It was like a group strangers became best friends over a system launch. Nobody ran off with people's money. It was beautiful. Unfortunately my father hates videogames and refused to even come to take my seat so I could stretch my legs or get something to eat for an hour and the worst part we live five minutes from the walmart and he is retired with all the time in the world (asshole). Not the first time in my life that I have been served by strangers well. I had a friend who got his PS2 at launch at the BB at Northlake and people were cutting in line (especially by big, buff guys), trying to hustle people, etc etc. I'm sorry to much shit can happen that will make that camp out a waste of time.
BTW I'm 110% sure that 24 hr Walmarts will have a Wii/Ps3 sale at midnight. It should be announced on their Sunday flyer the weekend before. Wii I will arrive around 10am (18th). Ps3 I will arrive about 7am (16th).

At the previous releases, Wally set out chairs for the campers. Yes, Layaway is going extinct in Wal-Mart. And it's going to be kinda chilly, someone may want to bring a thermos of hot chocolate or soup. =D

So if we do this thing, where should we do it? If Wal-Mart, I was picturing the one on Cobb Parkway, as it's the closest 24-hour one I could think of. But maybe it'd make more sense to go to a more remote location.
Can I just say that the thought of willingly spending more than 30 mins. in a Wal-Mart scares the living shit out of me? But I'll do it for Nintendo.

One can't get more remote than the 24hr. Walmart on Lawrenceville Highway. Nothing but hills and trees surrounding. It reminds me of a ghost town. I talk to the manager in the videogame dept and he expects to get about 50 PS3 (they got 77 360s at launch) and about 130 Wiis. At least thats what corporate told him. Thats were I'm going.

Did it for the 360. Between small talk with strangers, white trash throwing a fit at lawaway (the best and very entertaining), my labtop with about 50 movies ripped onto the Hard Drive (thanks Netflix), a couple back up batteries for the labtop, and about $15 for food/drinks trust me its not that hard. BTW did I mention the spectacles that white trash at layaway form when their stuff is missing, can't put a certain item on layaway etc. etc.....the best comedy ever. Plus remember layaway isn't ending until the 20th of Nov. according to the signs at Wal-Mart so the launch lines will still be there. Man I can't wait.
Example:
Cuuuzzz me sir. I need to speak to yourth managaaaa......my 13 inch Sanyo Tv payment is "afixto" come through put I need more time to tha finish the paying the a-balance off me thinks. MAN GOOD TIME AND LAUGHS AT THESE POOR BASTARDS.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of the Cobb Parkway Wally (you're talking Marietta/Smyrna area, I'm assuming... because futher up north on 41, I know of two more Wallys near to Acworth. Keep going up towards Cartersville (I think that's the name of the town) there's another Wally by that Rhino.
I know the one I'm hoping for is out of y'alls way, but it's actually nice. It's on Dallas Highyway... although doing a store search the address comes out as
Wal-Mart Supercenter Store #3403, 3615 Marietta Highway, Dallas, GA 30157. It's new, the staff and management are super nice. Far and away the only Wally I usually enjoy stepping foot into.

Be proud of me, I was in the above mentioned Wally the other evening, and I wound up selling 5 DSlite's to a couple families who were asking a clerk questions about the GBA and DS and PSP... the kid (big surprize) wasn't terribly game-savvy, so I spoke up and started talking with the parents and their kids. I even took out my DS to let them see how you can play either GBA or DS games, and let them play around with the system and the game play hands on for a few minutes. There was an interactive, but most parents are hesitant to stoop over so low (honestly, the interactives are set at about two feet off the ground... who other than a pre-schooler will play with that? And when do pre-schoolers have disposable income to actually purchase said system?).
One lady bought three DSlites, the other two familys bought one DSlite each.

Yeah, I know the Smyrna one is trashy. It was just the most centrally-located 24-hour one I could think of. But that's probably a good reason to avoid it. I'm no connoisseur of Wal-Marts because, as I intimated, I spend most of my time avoiding them if at all possible. While I will defer to the crowd, I think Dallas is a bit extreme. Lawrenceville Hwy is the best suggestion I've heard so far. Is that one decent? We might also want to figure the expected alottment at any given store into this equasion. As we get closer, hopefully we'll be able to find out which store is getting more.

Ditto that. That shit (which seems to be Wal-Mart's stock and trade) depresses rather than amuses me. But being inside, the prospect of chairs, an orderly system of handling the waiters, and finishing the ordeal (rather than just starting) at midnight are compelling reasons to take our chances there.
EDIT: Well now it's looking like TRU will be doing preorders for the Wii, starting Oct. 29. I'd much rather give them my money, especially if it saves me having to sit in line for 5+ hours on launch weekend. They should get a huge number of units given their relatively small number of stores and the fact that Nintendo has named them their "official" launch partner. Guess we'll see what happens.

And if they'll be doing lottery vs first come first served. If it's lottery, then folks should just show up at that Wally's requested time-frame.

Don't feel bad. I had to look it up too. It's in Duluth. On the way we can go to Super H Mart (http://www.hmart.com) and stock up on Asian snacks to round out the Nintendo experience. Well, the latest is that TRU will be requiring bundles. Depending on the composition of said bundles, Wal-Mart may still be very much on the table. I've got Zelda paid for at EB and would just assume get everything else at Best Buy with GGCs.

I haven't been to a Farmer's Market in over 20 years. But that may be fun to see some time. Is it weekend only?
As for japanese food, all I really need at the moment is noodles. Aside from food, I also love the toys and candy and drinks at Tomato. Anything in a cute package I buy. In fact, that's probably what I liked best about Shenmue and Shenmue II... being able to buy goofy Japanese-packaged thangs.
OH! that reminds me. If anyone is in Discover Mills Mall, go into Pica Pica (the sort of japanese dollar general). At the back of the store there is a display hanging on an endcap. At first appearance I thought it was little packages of shoe cleaner/polisher... but then I saw this great Engrish note that someone in the store put on the display so people would know what it is... it is, "Fixer for Stink." I so need a tiny digicamera to keep in my purse for moments like that.
If anyone around here speaks or reads Japanese, Tomato has a ton of used Manga and they rent videos (of what, I have no idea).
Well, the latest is that TRU will be requiring bundles. Depending on the composition of said bundles, Wal-Mart may still be very much on the table. I've got Zelda paid for at EB and would just assume get everything else at Best Buy with GGCs.
Hrmm... I don't know how ethical this is, but if the bundle is not too bad and includes say Twilight Princess and another controller or whatever, you *could* use the pre-pay of Zelda towards a different game at EB. Just a thought.

Well, "farmer's market" is probably a little deceptive in describing it, as it's much, much more than that. Basically, it's the best place to get produce, meat, seafood and international grocery items in Atlanta. It's huge. If there's a weird vegetable from the darkest reaches of Africa or some obscure variety of rice, they have it, and it's probably organic. The quality and selection is amazing and they're ridiculously cheap, too. It's open from 9:00 - 9:00, 7 days a week. Just make sure you bring cash, check, or debit/ATM, as they don't take credit cards.

If any of you are interested the Buckhead CC will probably be selling PS3 at midnight, 11/16. I say probably because this hasn't been made definite yet, just very likely. When I know for sure I'll let everyone know.

So does anyone here have the hook up in a retail store that is selling PS3s, that could help us secure one at launch or at least let us know when they are restocked? Thanks.

The Target Greatland on North Druid Hills does have the Wii stuff out, including the cards. Got one. Very cool.
Also, went by the TRU in Tucker tonight and spoke to the RZone manager. He said they will be doing PS3 preorders Sunday, but that district management was being very obtuse about Wii preorders. He said up until today they said they weren't doing them, now they're saying "maybe," which I took to mean yes. He didn't know how they'd be handling the line but said it's quite possible they'll be using a ticket system. Told me to call tomorrow afternoon and he'd probably know more. Anyway, of all the TRUs I've been to recently, it's the most well taken care of and the manager seemed nice, so I feel confident taking my chances there.

I'm assuming that means other CCs won't be doing a midnight sale for the PS3?
I'm curious cisco, do you know if Buckhead (or any of the CCs) have their projected ps3 numbers? Only because if my understandings are correct, it would appear that the entire store will be open at midnight for a handful of people. Not that other people may come in during the hour to buy a dvd or lcd or have firedog program their remote control... but then again... maybe they won't.

Welcome andi!
I'm finally feeling a little better so I'm amped to go out shopping tomorrow. I'll be hitting a few TRUs and EBs. ...I'll be the tall girl in line. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v76/guinaevere/smilies/blush.gif
By the way Tybee, have you seen the TRU/wii pre-order Now (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112867) thread on the main Video Game Deal forum? It could possibly be a whole lot of nothing thanks to website typo/error that popped up around 10pm Eastern. But you may want to call your local TRU early in the morning to double check.
We don't want to see you missing another pre-order event.
Speaking of pre-orders. I'm having a crisis of conscience with my ps3 preorder. I'm not a huge sony fan, but I had nothing really against them. The Playstation was great. The ps2 is... the weakest of current gen, but there are always a number of games only playable on that specific console...
But this whole thing of Sony putting Lik-Sang out of bidness with that psp lawsuit really frosted me. Namely because the dang thing is REGION FREE!!!
They killed Bleem! (dreamcast) which I can understand, though it still annoyed me at the time, as there were games which ran smoother using BleemCast than the PS. Yes, I tried to justify the Bleem because I liked it. Logically I know they had every right to protect their console from losing sales.
Now they flat out killed LikSang by a lawsuit which I found more vindictive as I can't see how it effected the overall Sony sales. What's lost in Europe was by default, re-captured by the Japanese product.
What also irritates me is that Sony was shrewd enough to go after a HongKong based-business, when they know there are mainland China businesses which do far worse in damages to their sales by copyright infringement/patent infringement et cetera... yet they haven't gone after these Chinese factions as they know they'll get words and no results.
If they had the guts to truly go after big fish who pull gobs of money out of the entertainment industry each year by bootlegging, even in a communist country which protects themselves... then I'd feel Sony were doing what they ought to do. As it stands I feel they're just trying to make an example out of a legit HK establishment.
Now, if LS was selling phoney PSPs, then I'd say Sony is in the right no question. All they were doing, per my understanding of the legal filings, is selling worldwide a product which they were a vendor of anyway. If I'm wrong, someone please clarify.
And sorry for the rant in here guys. I'm just debating what I ought to do about my local pre-order.

Do what Lik-Sang would do. Buy it and resell it. ;)

Haha...nevermind. I drove through last night at 7pm and saw already 7 people in line for the 5PS3s. I'll be going to another TRU today.

FYI. The Toys R Us in Buckhead was taking Preorders for the Wii yesterday. Also, aside from Cobb, no TRUs have lines in them as of 11:00am this morning. :-)

Jesus. Don't these people have lives?
Anyway, I don't know what I'm going to do at this point. My wife has already forbidden camping out. Guess I'll arrive around 6 am tomorrow and take my chances. I just have the sinking feeling that it's going to be EB/GS all over again and I'd be better off just waiting until Nov. 19.

5 people in Alpharetta, 3 people in Kennesaw. Tucker and Buckhead are NOT allowing lines and will call the cops for loitering. How do you all recommend trying to get in on the pre-orders in Tucker and Buckhead?

Have you tried the one by Cumberland mall?
Edit: Nevermind. Cobb. Duh

Yeah, 7 people as of Friday night.
Any experience with mall security at Tucker or Buckhead? How should I go about it if I go tonight?

The one in Tucker is in kind of a dodgy area. Don't know that I'd be hanging out there by myself (or in a small group) with money in my pocket. And there are always bullets flying in Buckhead on a Saturday night. So I can see why they're discouraging people from camping out at those locations.

There are two more boxes in "poor" condition but they seemed to have all their contents. They're not in the usual endcap location, but back behind the electronics where the musical instruments and clock radios live.
No Wii stuff out yet - no glowing gift cards. I didn't get a chance to ask the guy at the counter because he was helping a number of folks.
