Anybody get a Wii or PS3 preorder (or Elmo, for that matter)? I didn't bother even going. Slept in instead, went to brunch and a nice foreign film. I'll wait in line on the 18th when I'll actually end up with a system in my hands.

It was nice getting that extra hour of sleep this morning before Sunday School.

So you're back to waiting in Wally huh? If we actuallly get ourselves organized, I'm so down for us all getting together for that.

Hey Guys...its better you guys didn't. I tried going at 6pm and all stores in the area (I even went out to Fayetteville) were full.

If any of you guys are seeking a PS3 (I, luckily, got my Wii pre-ordered as EB), I would LOVE to organize something. Feel free to send me a PM.

Actually, I have my ps3 all taken care of. I didn't pre-order the wii as the numbers have things looking like I'll have no problem finding one in-store within two weeks of launch. But if anyone wants to meet up for a wii launch grab, I'm interested.

And now I have a few questions for y'all.

1) Does anyone want to split the Best Buy bogo special edition deal they have going this week? I'm really only interested in Dr Strangelove, so if any of you folks were looking for one movie from their list (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?type=category&id=pcmcat104000050007), we could split the cost making it about $11 total a piece (incl. tax).

2) Do any of you play games on your cellphone? I have a winning code from the McDonalds Monopoly thingy and I'm not interested.

3) Does any one around here know of any nice local artisian fairs or boutiques? Art, jewerly, glass, whatever.

Gwen, Andi, and anyone else who's game: Let's start planning this thing. Obviously WalMart is the target. We'll need to figure out which one and commit to a time to get there. Say Saturday morning? How early? My wife has offered to provide support services like running to get food and stuff. :)

Can you be more specific? Are you looking for special events or stores or what?

*chokes* Saturday... MORNING?!!!? You're killing me, Tybee. I don't do well in the morning. I need my 12 hours of sleep a night. >__<

As for Wallys send out the suggestions. So far we had one for a Wally on lawrenceville hwy (did I get it right this time?). I don't really know where you are, but there was a Wally right close to Hmart, right? I know how to find that, AND it has the benefit of being close to the interstate which is a BIG benefit in my mind for driving over an hour home by myself in the middle of the night.

Other Wallys that are near to interstates:
Douglasville I-20 (while this is very close and we could even order out from Gumbeaux's, this is a pretty skanky Wally and they did lottery for the 360.)
Lithia Springs I-20 (a little less skanky but this will still have a lot of folks waiting in line)
Kennesaw I-575 (neocisco directed me to a couple GameStops near this new Wally. I have no idea what it's like inside. Cisco, any input?)

I'm sure there are others, but these are the only ones I'm aware of off-hand.

Can you be more specific? Are you looking for special events or stores or what?I can, but it'll cost ya. =P I'm not entirely sure. I was out this afternoon and I found what I thought was a nice hair clip that would look wonderful in my Sister-in-Laws hair. Only, it was a pin. But the result is, it got me thinking that I need to start thinking about her for Christmas because she's the one I have the hardest time shopping for.

Mom- easy, give to ministries
both Brothers- easy, games, dvds, random toys and gag gifts
Sis-in-Law- difficult. It isn't that she's demanding, or anything like that. It's just that she is a girly-girl and has very classy taste (and I am not and do not). I did well last year with a few nice outfits from some of her fav shops, but I'd like to get something other than clothes. When she takes trips she often will pick up a water-color or oil painting by a local artist or of the local areas. She also has some lovely glass pieces and even a few hand-woven scarves from different around the country.

She's more to the quality than quantity. The complete opposite of me and my bros. We wait for stuff to get discounted and then stock up so we can pile tons of games and toys on each other each year.

So. A fair would be awesome. But as those only happen once in a while throughout the year, if you know of any nifty local boutiques or whatever, please lemme know.

Edit: Are we sure we don't want to try our luck at Microcenter when it opens?

I know, I know. But after the fervor displayed at the preorder lines, I'm thinking the turnout for the real deal is going to be scary. Even getting there that early, I'm sure there will already be people in line starting Friday night (the minute after the PS3 folks walk out the door). Or maybe I'm just paranoid.

I'm in Decatur, so the closest WalMart to me is the newish one in Tucker. Not sure if it's 24 hours or not, but it's near 285. There's a decent organic Thai place nearby. ;)

So far Lawrenceville Hwy is sounding good to me. I don't know why.

I can, but it'll cost ya. =P I'm not entirely sure. I was out this afternoon and I found what I thought was a nice hair clip that would look wonderful in my Sister-in-Laws hair. Only, it was a pin. Spend an afternoon strolling around downtown Decatur. It's chock full of galleries and boutiques. Then get a drink at the Brickstore. Win-win.

Edit: Are we sure we don't want to try our luck at Microcenter when it opens?

I haven't been in a Microcenter in probably 10 years. There's one right here near my office, though. How are they at getting stuff like this on launch day? I would be wary. My backup was going to be Costco, depending on the games they put in the bundle.

I can do Kennesaw. So just to get a head count, who -- besides Gwen, Andi, and myself -- is interested in coming out for this?

I have some good news for you guys.

Best Buy store #504 (Pleasant Hill) is going to be doing a midnight launch for the PS3. Anyone game to organize something there at around 6PM on that Thursday? 6 hours should be enough to secure one, right?

Good luck to you, sir.

They had this deal a couple of months ago, and it's really nice. I got Black Hawk Down (3Disc) and Strangelove. :) I should probably abstain from buying more right now, though.

I don't actually *live* in Georgia, I'm stationed in Texas and going through seperation right now and staying with my folks.

I am definitely going to camp for a PS3, the more the merrier guys. Camping in groups has some big advantages like we can actually use the bathroom, go for food, be safe, and pass the time by chatting and playing games (monopoly anyone?).

I need to head back to Texas (Galveston) that day to pick up my pre-orders there. That is why I'm going for the 12 o'clock launch option.

If you do it, no matter where you go, you're definitely going to need to get there earlier than 6 hours ahead (especially for a midnight launch, when everyone and his brother is going to make a beeline for BB after they get off work at 5:00). Keep in mind that people camped out as early as two full days ahead for preorders at TRU for the PS3 and the Wii. Hell, even the EB/GS (Wii) preorders a month ago had people camping overnight. These people do not mess around. Add to that the fact that there are even less PS3s than there were 360s at launch and you have a recipe for chaos.

For the PS2 launch, I camped out at the Wal-Mart in Alpharetta on Mansell Road. Got there at 1:00 PM for a midnight launch, already 4 people in line. By 2 PM, there were 14 people, more than the 12 systems they had for the launch. Considering the high profile of this launch and the possibility that each store will have more limited amounts of systems, I would plan at least a 12 hour wait, but if I had $600 to spend, I would get there at 8 AM or so. As long as you are waiting that long, might as well make sure you get one.

I'm just not feeling it for the PS3 right now. There is no game out I want until Final Fantasy 13 and by then I'll be able to get one with an overstock 10% off coupon.

I pride myself in being able to get every system since Playstation 2on the first day whether through pre order or otherwise. I'm even getting the WII through Amazon. I feel if I wanted to get the PS3, I would already have it on preorder. If I can get it through Amazon without problem I'll preorder. I'm unsure of waiting overnight. Although the prospect of flipping it on ebay for 3,000.00 is interesting.

I had one guy ask to buy all of our PS3's when they come in. I wonder what he was going to do with all of those systems? His logic was what does it matter since you're going to sell all of them anyway. How about all the other pissed off people who don't get one? It took quite a bit of self-restraint not to laugh in his face.

Personally, I don't care if someone buys one to flip it on ebay. Buying more than one to flip, though, is just pure selfishness. Anybody who does that deserves it when they get mugged in the parking lot.

I actually had one guy offer me $ to make sure one would be held for him. He even had his wallet out of his pocket and was ready to fork over the greenbacks! Plus, he was just buying it for his kid, not even for himself. I highly doubt that child has ever heard the word "no".

As 11-17 gets closer it's only going to get worse...:headache:

Anybody who does that deserves it when they get mugged in the parking lot. Yeah, but I don't want bad things to befall people no matter how pathetic they are. Even if a guy gets through his entire life being a shmoe, there's still a time of accountability.

Plus, he was just buying it for his kid, not even for himself. I highly doubt that child has ever heard the word "no".But... but... his precious off-spring deserve the system. Obviously. They're *his* kids. urf.

Yesterday I hit the BB in Douglasville and had the nicest time talking with a kid working in DVDs. It was so funny to hear him, he'd just turned 21, and he's telling me about how parents aren't parents these days... they just want to be their kids friends. (gwen's addition: and that doesn't help anyone... a parents job is to raise the child into a responsible adult. They need guidelines and discipline. they need to know right and wrong and be accountable for their actions if they ever wish to succeed as a human being.)

I totally agreed with him, it was just adorable hearing it from such a youngster.

:headache:You should make that face to your customers. *giggles*

In response to the overall theme of your ps3 tales, it makes me feel kinda guilty. The manager at my local EB held a pre-order slot for me. Not only that but while we were talking about the number of pre-orders (16) is more than the number alloted to the store for launch, so I was whining to him about having to get up early anyway to ensure I'll get one on 11-17, not to mention anytime before Christmas. And he tells me "nooooooo you don't."

He knows I don't have a Wii pre-ordered, and we were talking about the pre-order sell outs at TRU and Wally-online and he asked if I needed one held for the 19th. I declined. I'm just wanting the ps3 for Big Bros Christmas pressie. The Wii I know I'll be able to pick up at launch or soon enough there-after. But he's really way too good to me.

...I sometimes wonder if he likes me (I know it sounds like we're in Jr High again, I'm sorry), but dang it if he does, what would it take to invite me to a movie or something?

Yes friends and neighbors, I have to fight them off with a magnet and glue. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v76/guinaevere/smilies/loopy_toungue.gif

Very true. I wouldn't hope that they would be harmed but if that would happen to them my sympathy would be lessened in that instance.

Completely different situation, IMO. You've paid for one and only one. It's yours to do with as you please. If the manager makes sure you get one because you're a good customer I don't see any problem with that either. It'd be different if you didn't preorder and just walked up 3 days before launch and were able to get one on hold. Your situation is just fine.

If you are interested in him just ask him out. It is 2006, it isn't taboo to express interest in a man anymore (unless you are a man yourself, haha). Tybee and I had been talking about this just recently, although the conversation revolved around another man. (Poor guy gets all my sob-stories. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v76/guinaevere/smilies/blush.gif) I'm simply not capable of taking a first step. Partly from upbringing, partly from insecurities, partly from not wanted to be rejected. It is not possible for me to suggest catching a movie with a guy.

I know men suffer the same fears. I am more than sympathetic to that, but I can't rewire who I am. =\

I'm sure a girl woman gamer is irresistable to a GS/EB managerHa! You haven't seen me in person. I'm very resistable. =P

and even if he/you aren't looking for romanceTo be sure, I am definately not looking for anything other than good company and something to do every now and again.

And please don't think I'm being flippant with you, Random. I very much appreciate the positive attitude and support! I'm just not good in these sorts of things. I have a hard enough time maintaining eye-contact with someone I like and/or find attractive. >_<

my sympathy would be lessened in that instance. Totally with ya.

because you're a good customer I... I don't know if those are the best words to describe my partonige. But for arguements sake, we'll let it go.

It'd be different if you didn't preorder and just walked up 3 days before launch and were able to get one on hold.Naw. I plan on trying that at CC Kennesaw. =P

So many women gamers in Atlanta -- add me to the list! This is very excellent and I'm glad to hear of it.

As to PS3 allocations, I tried calling a few Best Buys yesterday and the employees are truly clueless. So, since I used to work at a Best Buy, I emailed my former GM last night and I'm waiting to hear if he has any information for me. As soon as I know, I will let you guys know.

Come closer to the date, I will start calling various stores (or maybe go in person!) and try to find out allocations and will let you guys know.

However, I'm still waiting to hear if any of you are interested in lining up for the PS3!

Just ask him to come over to your house and help set up your Playstation 3. Bat your eyes and say, it just seems so complex and difficult, do you think you could help? That way if he rejects you, it's not because he doesn't like you, it's because he's lazy.

Hey everybody. This thread looks healthy. I am glad to see so many local fellow CAGs. I guess with two huge console launches being two days apart, now is the time for gamers to stick together.

Anyway, I live in Candler Park, near little five points. And I want a Wii! I really hope it's not going to be as hard to get one as the TRU crazies think it will be. (no offense if anyone here camped out that long). I was thinking about just hitting up some OTP Wal-marts around midnight and hoping for the best. Anybody have plans yet?

Hey Trav. Welcome to the thread. You're actually near a bunch of us. I'm in Decatur and we have several folks in this part of town.

We're trying to get a Wii line together for a midnight WalMart launch. So far the locations under consideration are Lawrenceville Hwy and Kennesaw because they are large, high-traffic, newish stores that are open 24 hours. But we are open to suggestions.

I'm more paranoid than most in the thread and think it would be wise to start the line earlier in the day that Saturday, say around noon. After the TRU madness and the EB/GS lines (both of which had overnighters), I just feel like people are still underestimating the demand. Hell, the $535 online WalMart bundles sold out in minutes and the $700 Fry's bundle did the same in a matter of hours.

Cool, I was actually thinking about going to the north east ATL area, that way there is a WalMart near Gwinett Place, one on Lawrenceville-Suwanee, and one near the Mall of Georgia all really close to the interstate. I was thinking of just going there around 10PMish, but maybe I should go earlier. Will Walmart let people lineup in their store? It seems like with the launch numbers that WalMarts should be getting more Wiis than are demanded, but then again, since they are one of the only places open on midnight, they could probably get hit pretty hard. So how many CAGs are planning on getting a Wii on day one?

I am close to the Mall of Georgia (good god that place is huge and tacky) and I'm avoiding it for the midnight launch at Best Buy. Remember, last year they had over a hundred 360s at the locations for a midnight launch. Hopefully that will repeat this year.

But the Best Buy midnight launch is for the PS3 right? I am looking to get a Wii.

I was speaking with a fellow at the new SupahTahget (whoops... new england accent slipping out again) in Acworth and as far as Targets are concerned, they are only being alloted ps3s and wiis according to their console sales for current gen systems. So, if the store has only sold 3 gamecubes, they're not getting any Wiis. If the've sold thousands of PS2s, they're getting a relatively high (around 20) ps3s. He was miffed because that store only JUST opened, and would be getting VERY few of both.

Again, this is only Target and Wally is probably doing things differently but I thought I'd mention it.

I'm more paranoid than most in the thread and think it would be wise to start the line earlier in the day that Saturday, say around noon. After the TRU madness and the EB/GS lines (both of which had overnighters), I just feel like people are still underestimating the demand. I'm with ya on that, Tybee. I don't WANT to be sitting around waiting all day, but I will because that's the best bet at this point.

Hell, the $535 online WalMart bundles sold out in minutesDid it really? I logged on around 3am to CAG that morning to check something, and saw that it had sold out by then. I had no idea if it sold out in minutes or just then, which would have been around 3 hours. Either way, I'm glad to see the Nintendo love coming around. =)

The one thing that has me concerned are the armed robberies that have been going on around here the past years. And it seems like every day I turn on the radio (i'm an AM listener), I hear of another robbery. I just... if lines aren't conspiciously patrolled, there's the makings of big problems.

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but it's just something that occured to me.

For those seeking Wiis, they are on sale on samsclub.com all day. They are doing 25 at a time, and they had some up at 9:45am and then again at 11:00am. I hope this helps.

And we'll definitely put something together for the PS3! Safety in numbers, right?

The Sam's Club post above got me thinking about Costco ("mine" is at Perimeter). I found this link (http://www.costco.com/Browse/Productgroup.aspx?Prodid=11171493&search=wii&Sp=S&Mo=1&cm_re=1-_-Top_Left_Nav-_-Top_search&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ns=P_Price%7C1%7C%7CP_SignDesc1&N=0&whse=&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntk=All&Dr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ne=4000000&D=wii&Ntt=wii&No=1&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Nty=1&topnav=&s=1) on their site. I also thought it was pretty funny that the information email is "revolution@costco.com.'

I found this post on the 1Up boards regarding what types of bundles Costco will be offering. Apparently the dude works there. The typos, etc., are not mine!

"I've been checking the skews at costco to see how many Wii's we are getting. It doesnt say yet but the price is going to be something like $333.99 but it's a bundle with two games and an extra controller. It doesnt say what games or if its two games not including wii sports or 1 game plus wii sports. Sorry I can't offer more information yet. I do know the games will be about $44 for the wii games. The PS3's are $53, just incase anyone was wondering. And the games our initial shipment is something like 15 per game. I'll try to update with more info later. I can't wait for the wii to come out."

Interesting, but like you say, WalMart will (hopefully) be using a different system.

I'm with ya on that, Tybee. I don't WANT to be sitting around waiting all day, but I will because that's the best bet at this point.

Exactly. What's worse: Sitting around for ~12 hours and getting a Wii or sitting around for ~8 and getting skunked?

That's why we're getting this lovely little group together: to watch each other's backs, both in terms of holding a space in line and for actual protection. Also, we're doing WalMart so we'll be inside in the layaway area, right? And if that's not enough reassurance, I'm 6'5", 255, so you will be safe with me.

There's actually a thread here about the Costco Wii bundle. I had not heard that it would come with an extra controller, but they are saying that one of the two packed-in games (one of which may or may not be Wii Sports) will be Zelda:

OK so I think the Walmart thing sounds like a good plan to me, how early did you want to get there? When you say morning do you mean like early morning (6 or 7) or late morning (9 - 11). I vote on late morning, but thats just me. If we have someone that lives near the targetted walmart, we can have a "scout". Also, whichever WalMart we pick we need to make sure it has a decent sized gaming section, since I think that will be the best indicator of how many Wii units they will be getting.

As far as the robberies go, I agree completely, the reason I am up for camping out with you folks is for protection, company, and for saving my spot when i have to run for a wii. Also, who all is bringing a DS?

Let's split the difference and say ~9:00 or 10:00. I will be bringing my DS. What games should we bring?

In terms of robberies, honestly, I'm less worried because this is the Wii. If it was the PS3, that would be a different matter. Think I'd make a will out first before heading out to wait for that one.

Fair enough. RE is fun for a little bit but each player needs their own cart. MK is fun, even though I STINK at racing games. And you don't all need a cart for multi play, though having your cart means you get to use your unlockables. I'll bring Bomberman (multi play off of one cart) because that's a very fun game to play in teams. Animal Crossing... if anyone is good with this, we could plan ahead for some item swapping (Opal is still bugging me about a Gaudy Sweater!).

]Wait, was that a fat joke?

Back of the line for you, missy. =;Shut UP that was nothing of the kind. Honestly as I read your earlier post I thought two things:
a) brawn doesn't stop a bullet.
b) no wonder they run from you at Hmart.

I haven't picked that up yet... but the thing about bringing actual card games... they don't use the battery and wifi'ing pulls more juice than playing alone. AND if we're going to be there for hours and hours we're only going to get so much mileagle out of the DS. ...unless we all bring our chargers and Wally kindly allows us to plug in.

Also, we have a gamestop across the street if Gwen wants to hook up with someone.!!!

All in all though, I'm getting pretty hyped about the wii. And part of me is so exstatic (sp?) that Nintendo is getting some big time lovin' out there. Sega had some great systems too, but Nintendo has always made games that were simply fun and enjoyable to play. Anyway, that aside, I'm glad for N.)

Especially after years of hearing the un-informed go on about how Nintendo should get out of the hardware market and focus only on software as that's all their good at. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v76/guinaevere/smilies/cigar.gif

I don't see enough there to indicate that there will actually be MORE preorders on the 12th. In fact, most evidence points to the contrary. Common sense leads one to question why would they would allow people to line up for two days and go though Hell, tell them they have no more preorders, then release MORE preorders two weeks later? I don't see it happening.

I think this is just another case of easily excitable fanboys (I count myself among them) overthinking things. There will be no additional TRU preorders on the 12th or any other day.

Excellent point. I did some birthday shopping browsing today for my younger bro, Jaeli (we have the same birthday, Nov 9) and hit the Douglasville TRU. Speaking with a department manager he said they have no plans or knowledge of a second Wii pre-order. He could have been honest, he could have lied.

For fun, I asked him about the partnership between Nintendo and TRU for the Wii launch and what all it entails. The answer was basically, they're getting a few more.

I also caught up with a local Sony rep and found out the US numbers for the ps3 have been cut to 250,000 units, down from 300k. This may be old news, but it was the first I'd heard of it. The last time I checked unit numbers was hearing the 100k for Japan was cut to 85,000.

Unfortunately, I live about 40 minutes, or so, away in the Lilburn/Snellville area.
If I could do an Arnold Schwarzegger voice, I'd do it here and say, "you are weak!" I'm easily driving 40 minutes. Of course, I'm going to actually buy one and not just meet a bunch of weirdos. *giggles*

So are we set on the Wal Mart in Kennesaw? I am just wondering since I have a friend coming down from SC that night, and he would probably meet me at the Wal Mart that night, it would be a heck of a drive to come down 85, go across the top of the perimeter and back up 75, but if we are off of 85 it would save him tons of time. Just wondering, does one of us live near Kennesaw? Also, the wal Marts off of 85 are really easy to get to and are closer together as well.

I hate being the new guy in the forum and asking you guys to change your plans, so if we really want to do Kennesaw that is cool too. :)

I have no particular affinity for Kennesaw, and the ones up 85 are (marginally) closer to me, so I would not mind changing the location. What say the others (which I guess are Gwen and Andi)?

I'm usually up for a drive, but considering we're going to be strung out from getting up early and then sitting for over 12 hours in a wal-mart, I know I'd best not have too far of a drive home.

If y'all pick another location, let us know asap, as I'll need to be able to find it and do a test drive.

Forgive me being over-cautious, but being a woman I really don't want to be driving through unfamiliar territory in the middle of the night.

OK, What do you guys think about the WalMart on Lawrenceville-Suwanee. Its right off 85 (Exit 111), and its got like 3 other WalMarts within like 6 or 7 miles from it. Also, from what I saw, it has a decent sized game section, and its a Super WalMart.

Directions are: Go up 85 N, Exit 111, Turn Left, Go like .1 Miles, then Turn Right on Satellite Blvd, then its on your right.

Any takers? :)

Happy belated birthday! I was on a business trip in Wisconsin (is there any other reason to go there?) Wed. and Thurs. Getting caught up.

I love that there are people already waiting for the PS3. The only thing that would make it better is if they were wearing Star Wars or Trekkie outfits.

Okay, so I'm completely lost as to who is coming to the Walmart Wii Wait at this point. I guess we should just stick with the original Kennesaw plan, for simplicity's sake. I think Suwanee is too far for...well...everyone except Travis. ;)

PS3
- any definate action yet?

Oh, I'm sure the people who actually got preorders the first time round could care less. I'm thinking more of the folks that waited overnight or even 3+ hours and came up empty. Now they get to wait again.

Or not. Looks like virtually NO ONE knows about this, including many TRU employees. I suspect the boy who cried wolf factor will also cut down on crowds (I know I certainly didn't believe it at first). I'll head out a little before opening tomorrow and see if I get lucky.

That could be it. It's not Edgewood, as a lot of the people in the Kotaku comments seem to think. There's a Bed, Bath, & Beyond in that same shopping center, but not adjacent. Plus, I was there tonight and I didn't see them.

They're going to get rained on. There's a 40 percent chance of rain tomorrow night, 80 percent on Wednesday, and 60 percent Wednesday night. Forgetting these guys, that should help hold off a lot of the linesitters until Thursday.

Okay...I'm still going to camp (because I still haven't received a confirmation from Wm.com and I'm afraid to be left out).

I called the Wm I was planning on camping at, and the Manager of the store told me he's not allowing lines until 10PM THURSDAY. You could also call your credit card company and ask if your account has any activity from Walmart. I don't know if they bill at shipping, or right away. But it's worth a quick call. (as if any customer service call today is quick. )

How do you all think I should handle this? Any tips? When TRU.com told me no lines, I went there anyways, and there was a line of people since 6pm the day before. I don't want the same to happen to me again.First question is this: How early can you get to your Wally? If you can't get there until around 6 or 8 pm anyway, the question is moot. (Because I can almost gurantee there will be plenty of people camping. If not in layaway or in a line outside (if managment keeps chasing campers out), then I'm sure that folks will be milling around "browsing" all day.)

Andi, my suggestion is to go the earliest you feel comfortable with. I know you're being escorted by your boyfriend, so that will make my thoughts easier to put into action. You walk inside (if there is not an outisde campers line), and one of you grabs a seat in the indoor fast food place, and the other goes back to see if there's any line-up action in electronics and/or layaway. If nothing is going on, you join your friend in the fast food section. If there is a line, get in it. And then call your boyfriend to join you.

Well, I don't think it's the one we saw photos of, but there are campers at the new Lindbergh BBuy, too. There's a Linens and Things next door, but no Bloodbath & Beyond.

Anyway, these folks had several tents, a couple of those big outdoor heater towers, and a DIRECTV DISH IN THE PARKING LOT. They were running a wire across the lane to the sidewalk. Impressive. I saw two people standing against the wall by the heaters this morning.

There were a few members of the press there to cover the UPS delivery, and it looked like they were talking to/photographing the campers a bit, too. I'll post the pics I took when I get home tonight.

That store is huge, btw. Nice.

I stopped by the Edgewood Best Buy last night (to pick up Yoshi's Island DS) and got the skinny on the launch:

- First off: there were 6 tents of people camping out for the PS3. I asked the video game guy how many PS3s they were getting. Although he couldn't give me the # (he wasn't allowed to) he did say that he was planning on lining up tomorrow morning (since he had the day off) ... once he saw that there were "already 20 people in-line" he decided he didn't have a chance for a PS3. He also noted that he would only do it to make profit off of Ebay.

- I asked him about the Wii. He said that no one should be worried about getting a Wii. He said that he knew the # they were getting and that it was "a lot." He also said that I could probably walk into Best Buy during the late morning and still walk away from with one. This didn't come from his lack of faith in sales, but in his confidence in the supply. He also noted that Nintendo was going to keep sending them Wiis regularly, so he figured that it would be no problem to get a Wii during the holidays.

- The guy had to go into the store room to get Yoshi's Island for me. He wasn't happy about it since "the store room was a mad house with all the new releases." That's not that important, I just thought it was a cool detail.

- They had a Wii on display, running a video of a montage of games. I saw the Wii and it was beautiful. I asked the dude when they were getting a playable kiosk, and he said that he didn't know if they ever would ... he cited the fact that Best Buy still hasn't figured out how they will handle the wireless controllers.

- They had a playable PS3 kiosk up with NBA Live 07 on display. I'm not a big fan of 3D basketball games (Double Dribble & Arch Rivals are where it's at), so to me it was just the same old PS1 game, except shinier.

- I grabbed every piece of Wii paraphernalia they had. That included a DVD of Wii videos and a info book w/ coupons. One of the coupons is a free Zelda guide if you buy Zelda and Excite Truck.

Besides all of that, I played 2 songs on Guitar Hero 2... all in all a good trip to Best Buy.

I'm wondering why I'm buying the darn thing later today. I'm not buying any games because none of them interest me, or they stink. Or can't hold a frame-rate. "But it's a video POWER HOUSE!!!" >_<

I ended up going to the 24 hours Wm in Marietta (on Cobb Pkway)...we got to stay inside Layaway until Thursday at 1pm, when the district manager moved us to the Plant/Grenery section.

No fights. No one cutting in line. No crazy stuff, like on Barrett...where the people had to walk for 20 hours straight (if you sat down, they kicked oyou out), and then sprinting for a spot in line at 8am on Thursday.

Overall, I'm happy!

Went to Target in Edgewood at around 6am to wait in line today, and was 30th in line. An hour or so later, the manager came out and confirmed the 24 Wiis that we had thought. My buddy and I headed up to the Best Buy on Piedmont and Sidney Marcus and saw about 20ish people in line. We got in line (which grew to about 45-50 or so) and found out within 1 hour that the store had 70-ish, and everyone in line got their Wiis!
The only unpleasant part was the group of college guys who had camped out all night at the BB and appeared to not be holding their liquor well. There were a couple of puddles of vomit and a guy continuing to produce vomit in a nearby planter. Not cool, not cool.

So what do you guys think of the Wii so far? Man, it took forever to update. And I'm waiting until my component cable comes today to start Zelda, as I don't want to see it in anything but progressive scan. But my wife and I were up until 3 AM last night playing Wii Sports. I'm mainly just wanting to go to the aquarium and stay somewhere nice. I've heard a couple of good things about the Westin; plus, the view of the city on the upper floors looks pretty damned sweet. I figured it'd be something nice to do for her, since we rarely have time to go anywhere out of town (and she's been wanting to go to the aquarium ever since it opened).

I haven't been to Atlanta in a little over a year. While it's mostly going to be doing something for her for Xmas and Bday, I wouldn't mind stopping by a couple of mom and pop game stores if anybody has some info on those :)

I've been to the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California a few times, but the GA Aquarium sounds much bigger. I'm kinda looking forward to it.

Have you considered staying at a bed & breakfast? Much more romantic and intimate, and you can still ride up to the top of the Westin and have drinks while you spin around looking at the view (don't eat there...the restaurant is terrible). Then you can walk through Centennial Park (they have ice skating) and do the Aquarium and CNN Center and whatnot.

As far as game stores, it sounds like you're mostly going to be downtown, and there are no good game stores there to speak of.

Some of the exhibits are way too small (the sea otters and seals in particular seem like they could use a lot more space), the signage is minimal at best (though they're addressing this with new audio tours that you can download to your iPod -- I tested one -- and other measures), and the 4D movie is a thinly-veiled shill for Home Depot (not to mention a shameless ripoff of Finding Nemo). But the good far outweighs the bad, as evidenced by its staggering popularity, both with locals and with tourists.

I'm staying downtown mostly for the convenience to the aquarium. I wasn't wanting to eat at the twirl and hurl at the top :), but maybe get a couple drinks. We're probably going to go to the aquarium in the early afternoon on the 16th, do stuff around town/maybe go to the CNN center/depends on if I get the CityPass, go to Stone Mountain the next day, then head back to Montgomery. I don't really have the whole thing figured out yet.. I'm trying to stay away from the Hilton as much as possible, as I don't want to give the skank sisters dough.

Well, if you'll have a car, you can stay at one of the B&Bs in Virginia Highlands and still pretty much be right in the middle of downtown and 5 minutes drive (or a short Marta ride) from all the stuff you want to do. Plus, you'll have breakfast provided for you and a much nicer stay overall. Rates vary, but you'll be in the same neighborhood as what you'd pay to stay at someplace like the Westin.

Here's a good place to start:

From the few aquariums I've visited, the Chattanooga is my favorite, but the Boston Aquarium is fascinating as well. Plus, it has penguins. :D

No one ever told me this!

That's a really great deal for anyone visiting the city! For $59 you have nine days to visit the Atlanta Aquarium, the World of Coca Cola, the High Museum and the CNN studio tour (I thought that was free to begin with?) and then choose a la carte.

From the choices on the menu let's see...

Fernbank vs Botanical Garden:

I haven't seen the Fernbank and the Botanical Garden is only meh when compared to other gardens throughout the country, though it's still a nice way to spend a day.

Atlanta History Center vs Atlanta Zoo

I love Zoos but this is one of the weakest in the country. Is the baby panda available for viewing yet? I'd opt for the Atlanta History Center. Unless you've visited it before.

The Georgia Aquarium is incredible. There were at least a dozen places there where I could just sit and watch for hours at a time.

The first time I went, I took nearly 150 photos. I would have taken more but both of my battery packs died. I am looking forward to another visit now that I have a new (and much better) camera.

I uploaded 16 of the more interesting aquarium pictures to this site: http://s117.photobucket.com/albums/o53/Detective_Thorn/Aquarium/

Thanks for all the info guys. Nice pics by the way; judging from the pic of the jellyfish, maybe they have some of the deep water glow in the dark kinda creatures?

I'm getting her a 6 mp digital cam for Xmas too, but will likely give it to her early for the aquarium.

If anybody knows of any way to get citypasses for two on the cheap (or hell, I'd even trade for them), let me know. The $59.99 per person does seem alot cheaper for more, but I'd probably only use three of the passes. Hell, if I remember right from the website, the aquarium admission alone is $24 per person.

I'm a fan of our botanical garden, but now is obviously not the best time to see it. They do it up for Christmas and there is the green house and recently added orchid house (awesome), but spring is really the time to go. Fernbank gets the nod. Great exhibits and they have IMAX.

Atlanta History Center vs Atlanta Zoo

I love Zoos but this is one of the weakest in the country. Is the baby panda available for viewing yet? I'd opt for the Atlanta History Center. Unless you've visited it before.

I was at the Atlanta History Center in August for the opening of the Olympic exhibit. It's really, really nice. The rest of the museum is good as well, and there is the Tulley-Smith house (kind of like Colonial Williamsburg, where they have an operating farmhouse and garden circa the Civil War era) but I don't know that someone from out of town would come away with the same sense of civic pride that we natives would.

I think the Atlanta Zoo is perhaps the most underrated attraction in Atlanta. It's not San Diego, but it's pretty darn good (especially compared to what it was in the 70s and 80s). The gorilla habitat is one of the best in the world and is interesting enough to be observed for hours. Not sure if the baby panda is being exhibited yet or not, but I would think so. It's getting big! Don't miss the small-clawed otters here AND at the aquarium.

Sky: Yeah, it is $24 per person. So that alone makes up half the price of the CityPass right there.

Gwen: Wait...You're moving?!

Try the animal safari in Pine Mountain if you get a chance. It is amuch better experience than the zoo in my opinion. The zoo can be very hit or miss. The safari is up close and personal. The animals will eat out of your hand. There is aless variety than the zoo, but rest assured, your experience will be way more memorable, especially if you take your own car rather than the tour bus.

I'll definately back you up on the orchid house. By far one of the best indoor botanical exhibits I've seen in ages. Their orchids are amazing.

I think the Atlanta Zoo is perhaps the most underrated attraction in Atlanta.Eh. I love zoos. But the times I've been there I've always been disappointed by its size and the rather limited number of animals.

Lo, the cold-hearted conservative has spoken. And she wants more animals sheltered in zoos, protected from nasty poachers.

Gwen: Wait...You're moving?!It's not like it's going to be tomorrow or anything but yeah. Probably to Colorado.

I mentioned to you that I have to take care of Mum and my younger brother... it's way too crowded and crazy around here for him. We were planning on scoping out possibly Grand Junction between now and Christmas, but he's cool with putting that off till after the new year. If it looks good there, most likely that's where we'll be headed.

Georgia was a stepping stone for us anyway.

I needed to break from NE and my crazy ex-husband, and big bro lived down here. Mum needed a change of scenery and lil' bro had been going to a so-called christian school which turned out to be little more than a cult led by some ARGH I really want to use a bad word to describe that man ahem, pastor. (For a kid who lost his Dad at a young age, had a crazy Mum and had major social anxieties, that man will have a lot to answer for when the time comes.)

Yeah, I'm with Cochese on this one. EVERY football team since the dawning of mankind takes a knee when they have the ball and the lead late in the game. Should they have thrown 3 hail mary's instead??

Georgia Tech would have done the same thing if they were in the same shoes, which, by the way, they haven't been in for six straight years now.. :)

Thanks to this wonderful website, I finally have a Wii!

I showed up at (what I thought was) an out-of-the-way Best Buy (LaVista and 285) at 8:25am. There was a long line when I arrived, and I seriously considered giving up. I decided I had nothing to lose, so I got in line. 10 minutes later, I was no longer the last person in line. When 9am rolled around, there were about 10 people behind me. Rumor trickles through the line that tickets will be handed out and that there were somewhere between 20-40 Wiis in the store. 9am comes, and we all get off our lawn chairs and line-up. The employees slowly work their way down the line, handing out tickets.

I got the last one.

I was #30. I sorta felt sorry for the kid and his mom who were right behind me - the kid had done the count himself, and said to his mom, "we're either going to be the last ones to get one, or the first to be turned away." Sure enough, he was right. Right when the employee got to me, the kid says "is that the last one?" and the employee said "no, I have 3 more..." -- he kept pinching the paper trying to separate the last few pieces ... but then he realized that it was indeed the last one. When I was handed the last ticket, I turned and said to the kid, "if it makes you feel any better, this is for me; I'm not selling it on ebay." I think that somehow made it worse.

Oh well... Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!

As a sports fan and a Tech fan, I know I have no room to talk badly about UGA in relative to GaTech (luckily, I don't have the same problem with being a fan of UF). While your frequent flyer miles line was pretty damned funny (it's true, and it was a pretty creative cut-down), you, as a UGA fan, don't have much room to talk this year... from what I can recall, GaTech is playing for an appearance in a BCS bowl this Saturday, and UGA is left to watch the Gators play on Saturday for their shot in a BCS bowl.

Two things to preempt a rebuttal:
#1 - Yes, I agree that the BCS system is crap, and GaTech doesn't deserve a spot should they win (much like the Big East champion; although UGA doesn't have much to say about that either given their performance against WVU last year).
#2 - If GaTech loses on Saturday, there's a good chance they're playing UGA again in the Peach Bowl. UGA definitely did a heck of a job saving their miserable season in the past two weeks.

Anyhow, anyone seen any Wii accessories (of the controller type) around? I could use an extra nunchuck, wiimote, or classic controller. Thanks!

Hit the Best Buy in Edgewood tonight to pick up a Print Server.... as I was walking out, I noticed a bin of 14.99 DS games, so I took a look. I was pretty surprised to see that newer games such as Yoshi's Island DS, Mario v Donkey Kong 2, and Mario Hoops 3 on 3 were in there. I grabbed them and went to the counter, and asked the nice lady to scan them for me to verify that they were 14.99... they weren't, and the manager came over and pretty much said "eh, whatev... we got it wrong and you caught us" and gave them to me for 14.99!
