I still have a copy of the AJC from earlier this week and it had a coupon for the auto show in the Sports section. ($3 off of the $10 admission, good only on the 12th through the 15th).

I would think they would have the coupon in the Sunday paper as well, but that is just a guess.

Thanks, Detective. Dallas Dodge is a listed dealer, and I think I can grab coupons there. If not, I'll stop at QT and buy the dang paper.

I've been checking the one by Perimeter Mall. So far no real deals. All gaming stuff is 10% off, so I guess if you are buying a PSP or HD-DVD add on you could save. But most games are the same as Best Buy with GGC. I'm waiting until it gets to 20% and then I'm gunna get some stuff. But who knows, by then all the good stuff will probably be gone. :/

Thanks for saving me a trip! It seems as if things at Compusa will never change, even if they're going out of business.....

As far as Compusa goes, I agree that it's 99% meh. I picked up Shadow Ops for PC and an open Xbox Dark Summit for 1.70 total by Lenox Mall, but that's hardly earthshattering. They had several other open games, but Oblivion with no manual and in a generic clear case was. . . 59.99?!!! CUsa is ridiculous. They had a couple of original xbox live 3 month kits that have been clearanced elsewhere for like 5 bucks. I got a price check and it was $40!!!!!! You can get a 12+1 card at CC this week or next for that price.

Guin, made it to that Walmart and they have the 1000 mem card at $30. Funny the 251 was only $10 less. It's crazyy as this thread made me wonder what mem card I have for my GC. I actually had to go blow the dust off it and look. Oddly enough I have a 251 and an Interact 4MB? I really don't even remember buying the Interact MC. Weird.

Guin, made it to that Walmart and they have the 1000 mem card at $30. Funny the 251 was only $10 less. Thanks dawg, I appreciate you're thinking to look. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v76/guinaevere/smilies/blush.gif

I forget where I was (possibly douglasville's CC) and I saw a 251 for about $30. Another brilliant pricing choice. But I see this alot with all sorts of memory cards. You can find a new flash card ofyour choice (xD, memory stick duo, et cetera) and within the same store, you can often find a 1gig for ~30 on sale, and a 256 of the same card for ~40.

It's crazyy as this thread made me wonder what mem card I have for my GC. I actually had to go blow the dust off it and look. Oddly enough I have a 251 and an Interact 4MB?I had a third party psX card once upon a time... it rocked, it was huge and I had all my game saves on there. And then one day out of the blue, the entire card corrupted and *lightening bolt and thunder crash* I lost ALL MY SAVES!!!! *scream of horror*

I know, it's a pretty graphic story for a fun-loving group like the ATL family, but someone had to speak out.

I found this GBA kit for 85 cents. My girlfriend has a GBA and if I can bloody remember when I saw one for $40 I'll pick one up for Animal Crossing .. and original Tetris.

Buckhead BestBuy has about 20 of the resupplied Castlevania for $9.99. Don't forget the $5 off coupon
http://img394.imageshack.us/img394/6332/dscn1043kk6.th.jpg (http://img394.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dscn1043kk6.jpg)

Anyone know if the CompUSA in Buckhead closed? I looked on their webpage, and they list Knoxville as having the closest store. I don't remember the one in ATL closing... weird.None of them are closed yet. They no longer show up on the CompUSA website but they're still open for now. If you click the link for 'closing stores' you'll find the buckhead one. Not that it gives you anything else but the address.

Actually I just got back from the CompUSA near Lenox...

Prey LE $16
College Hoops 2K6 $4.50
NHL 2K6 $9

And I know this isn't a game, but I thought it was a good price...
LOST Season 1 $20

Slowly the deals are getting a little better. But I have a feeling all the amazing deals will be scooped up by employees. The guy ringing me up was telling me he has gotten something like 15 games for .85 cents each this week.

Damn, I was just there the other day. Were there more of Prey LE? What about the other two and were those 360? Did the store have a new % off or was it still 10-30? The last of all my questions is were the games marked now or did you take them to the register to get a price? Thanks, man.

Sorry, last Prey LE. They were still 10% off, but were marked way down, and were priced correctly. They were up front on a clearance rack. Yeah they were for the 360. (I'm an achievements whore) :) I saw phantasy star universe for like $30 and was tempted, but they had a ton of copies, so I think I'll wait.

It must not have been on that rack at the time then cause I scoured it. No big deal as I found a Prey LE at the Duluth location. Of course, the standard version was $27 -10%. By the way, thanks travisty as I probably would have missed it since last time I was at Duluth it was marked at $50 and it was remarked this time. If you hadn't posted it, I wouldn't have returned for awhile to check it out and it probably would have been gone.

Ironically, we drove through Candler Park several times today and commented how it's getting nicer and nicer.

Are you insured? At least if they forced the door you can make a claim. The thing now is "bumping," or using a blank key specially cut with shallow bumps that will defeat most locks without damaging it or even leaving any evidence that it was picked. As you can imagine, this makes it a very difficult to prove the break-in and file a claim.

Actually No I'm not. I know that's pretty irresponsible, I just kept putting it off. This was kind of a wake up call to get it. But really it wouldn't have helped me too much since the TV would have been about the same as the deductible.

Where in CP? I used to live on that one small apartment building halfway up that hill on McClendon (1338) and my wife used to live in Oak Point! We just bought a house in Edgewood but have fond memories of living in CP and would actually like to move back across Dekalb some day.

Sorry to hear about the violation and theft, OJ. The fact that people do crap like that at all is just gross.

Some vandals came through my neighborhood a couple years ago and not only smashed mailboxes, the pulled them right out of the ground and threw a bunch of them into the bed of someones pick up truck. And then of course they smashed my rear window (and i'm guessing they shot a bb of some kind, because now i have a little rusted bullet spot on the back of my car) and smashed my neighbors minivan (the family with the eight thousand foster kids)... fortunately the birthday cake they had hidden in the minivan for a surprize party the next day... it got thrown down the street, but amazingly it was in perfect condition. still in the cake tupperware thingy and all.

In other news, my brother and I are finally taking our trip to scope out colorado later this week. keep us in your prayers, please.

Yes to your second question, Tybee. I was just in the Stone Mountain store last night. They and the Snellville store got robbed. In the Stone Mountain store, they say the robbers only got away with a few games and 1 system, or something. It wasn't much in that store. Not sure about Snellville....

I found it at the Best Buy at Perimeter, but it was the last copy. I'm not sure how much it is at Target, but with the Gamepro coupons you can get it at Best Buy for $25. According to Best Buy's website, the one in Edgewood (near Little Five) has some left. And just in case you were wondering..... I LOVE THAT GAME!! :)

Now about the Gamestop's getting jacked up..... do tell.

I think I just bought the last two GGCs in Atlanta at the Edgewood BB. All the stores are switching over to new, generic cardboard-backed GCs, and trips this week to Kennesaw, Cumberland, and Edgewood confirmed that all the GGCs have seemingly been pulled. I was thankful to find these two.

I'm going to try and get over to Perimeter in a little bit and see what's up there.

Started a thread about it here:

Anybody check Douglasville for GGCs? Guin?I'm probably going CC hunting this evening. I can hit up the Douggie BB to check. If I find 'em I'll pick them up with $1 on each GGC.

I was in Acworth BB yesterday and didn't even check (with the GamePro coupon scans, my few GGCs have been sitting in my purse unloved for months so I haven't been looking much for them).

And welcome back ME. Yay. I know you all missed me terribly. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v76/guinaevere/smilies/tongue.gif

Better use them soon. They expire in June.Which, the gamepro coupons or the GGCs? Either way, that just means i need to spend more cash at BB. What a DRAG.

Welcome back indeed! How was Denver?Incredibly brief. We just passed through Denver and then the Rockies to the western border of Colo. Grand Junction. We got there, and Jaelie wanted to return the next day, but we stayed a few days.

The geography was nice (not as gorgeous as the eastern side of the rockies) but the people were ...rather unfriendly. One man walked pushed his cart straight into me at a sams club (while looking at me, as if I ought to move out of his way... hello chivalry? I was just standing in this huge aisle looking at a salt shaker. It was apparantly his perogative to not have to make a wider arch as he rouned a corner?!?!). Another instance was we walked into the Black Bear Diner right by our hotel... Jaelie says, "hi!" to a hostess... she sees him and very obviously looks away. We were both like, wtf? (pardon the hyperbole but even for me, the situation called for it.)

Hit a BB and a CC. The people were just... I dunno. The area had no soul. And we were both freaked out by the fact that west of st louis the only people we saw were white. I'm white enough to make up for several people. I needs major diversity around me.

But we liked Goodland, Kansas. Nufin but farms. We went to their Walmart (about the only store we found there) on a Monday afternoon and it was so nice and quiet. I think there were 20-30 cars in the parking lot... speaking of which, we saw a Ford dealer and a Chevy dealership... Jaeli suggested that their claims on radio ads would be, "We sells TENS of CARS a year!" Honesty, there were probably 12-15 cars on their lots.

And Calvert City, Kentucky was nice as well. Near Kentucky Dam. There's a Kentucky Dam Hotel, Kentucky Dam gas station and when I spotted a KFC, I figured I could safely call it Kentucky Damn Chicken.

As far as a meet, depends. Are you moving? Because I'd hate to get all ATTACHED, only to have you skip town. ;)Wiseguy. With my bro, I have no way of knowing. But I'll say this, there is no great chance that I'll be moving to Colorado any time soon.

I did pick up King Kong for the 360 for 14, and got the new(old version included) copies of Return of the Jedi and Empire Strikes Back for 11 bucks apiece. A few random strat guides for $1-3 dollars as well.

Don't know, but the Duluth store closes Monday if you go over that way.

Their % off schedule (which is probably the same elsewhere) goes:
Friday & Saturday 60-80
Sunday 70-90
Monday Discounts keep rising until all is sold and doors close.

The Lenox store was changing % at the same time as Duluth as late as last week so I have to wonder if they moved their stuff to another local store. They moved clearanced games to the roswell store in the past so maybe they did that again.

jdawgg76

Duluth is pretty picked over. As far as games go: Only Tony Hawk 8 xbox was in the cage for 70% off 40. They had Madden 07 and NCAA2k7 both for 360 as well. For PC, Doom 3 80% of 50!, had King Kong and the movies. Tried to buy 2k7 (which was my main target in coming back) which I swear was price checked at 30 on Wednesday and it rang up 55 before 70% off. Said no thanks and some other fool swooped on it. Good riddance.

I'll miss the occasional killer advertised deals, manager's specials and blowout clearances as I picked up quite a few good deals and PMed even more, but I won't miss the awful service and overall high prices. Or the game cover printouts in plastic boxes in the game section. WTF!

I'm sure it goes without saying, but it's a must-buy for $8.88. I liked but not loved it, however, I bought it for $19.99 and don't regret it, so for $8.88, it's even a better buy.

My biggest problem is it's very, very, very easy to get confused in the game since you are constantly walking on the floor, wall and ceiling. There was so many times in the first 2 hours of play that I got too twisted and turned around and I had no idea where I was going. Still, a decent game and a steal at that price.

Hey guys/girls, I'm currently residing up in Connecticut but will be moving down to the Atlanta area come August as my job is relocating. I'll be looking to add some PS1 games to my collection. Wondering if you could recommend any stores in particular that would be able to help me out with the PS1 games (I found one Gamestop in my state that had some) as well as any local stores that offer good deals on the current and next-gen games/systems. Thanks!

100 mile radius? Alabama is nice this time of the year.

There's a number of stores in Kennesaw that I know of, EBStop consists of most of them. There's a neat mom&pop on Barret Parkway, and their sister store on 41 in Acworth.

BTW, your first stop needs to be the Big Chicken. Most people will give this as a reference.

Too true.

First rule, if you're not actively passing someone (and doing so quickly) GET OUT OF THE LEFT LANE!!!!!

Second rule, if you're going to make a turn put your signal on BEFORE you start applying the brake. Also, it's absolutely pointless to put the turn signal on once you're already in a turn lane.

I won't turn this into a manifesto but I'll end with one request. If I'm on the road then it's very likely that I will be driving the fastest so just let me by...please.

Newnan is where a lot of ATL commuters are coming from these days, but rent and land prices are finally skyrocketing. Still way too inconvenient for me, so I just stay down here.

Just gotta put my name in here. I reside in Newnan and I roam between Carrollton, Douglasville, Peachtree City/Fayetteville, and Jonesboro/Morrow. If you see two brothers of the same age but different body-types digging around in the clearance items, that's be me and my twin.

Oh, and I make semi-regular excursions to the Duluth Fry's store. I still haven't been to the Alpharetta store because it's only 0.1mi difference from here and I'm not too familiar with GA400.

Now that you mention land taxes, I'm surprized I didn't move sooner. But... but... dang, I do miss the cold weather and the snow. And my across the street neighbors with their six car garage. They were the bestest neighbors ever. He always came over to snow blow my driveway. =) The houses here are right on top of each other. In my bedroom, I can hear my next door neighbors doing their flippin laundry.

Hrmmm... four and a half acres and in a nice quiet town and lots of cold weather. And property taxes and heating oil prices so high I have to take an actual paying job... or this?

The women here will just as soon run you over in a parking lot so they can get their Starbucks coffee one minute faster rather than yield to pedestrians... or you know, drivers who actually have the right of way. Honestly, I don't see why they even have lights or arrows or signs any more. No one pays attention to them.

Anyway. Forgive me, I'm too lazy to go through other pages... wasn't there someone here who was interested in opening a comic shop in Hiram? Reason I'm asking, is for the past week, I've been clearing out my garage and I'm organizing and listing (and reading) what's left of my old comics and I want to get rid of them on Craigs List or if there's some better way, I'm open to suggestions. And I have no idea what I should ask for a price for them.

Posted this in the main deals forum in case it's not a local goof or whatever, but I couldn't ignore the locals so here's a minor deal on a brand new game and some stuff I found on Walmart.com for good measure:

Not an earthshattering deal, but I was at the Walmart in Lilburn, GA at Pleasant Hill and Lawrenceville Highway and I saw Call of Juarez for Xbox 360 for $50 instead of the MSRP of $60. It's $60 everywhere else including Walmart's website. Since I can't find a worker in electronics at 1 AM, I did not get it scanned so maybe it's a misprinted shelf sticker as the PC version is MSRP at $50. The sticker did specify X360 though.

I also saw Blitz The League for Xbox 360 for $19.99.

While I was looking at the website I found DiRT listed as $55 for Xbox 360 and there is a lot of stuff for sale under $10 (look for the option on the left side of the page at the video games page). Most of it's junk, but there were a few gems that could have been missed like Timesplitters Future Perfect for Xbox for 7.82 and some others.

Has anyone seen any PS2 headsets/mics or Wavebirds around lately? I would like to get 1 or 2 of each, and they seem to have mostly disappeared from stores. I realize that the GC stuff has mostly been clearanced out, but Nintendo ought to push out a few more for the Wii/GC players...

Jonesboro area, but in about a month and a half I'll be getting the fuck out of clayton county and up to northside with my wife and a friend of hers. Don't really know the areas too well though. Anyone have any advice on north by northwest (intentional reference) geography based on safety? Right now just about anything is better than here.

Kennesaw, Acworth, Roswell and Alpharetta are all pretty much low crime. Marietta proper can be sketchy in some places, as can West Cobb. That's about it, housing prices usually keep out any riff-raff. Some roving graffiti bandits are popping up, but I hope these areas never see the type of stuff I've been hearing about going on down there.

Good luck on selling your house, from what I've heard on the radio. I'm counting the days until I can move back home (East Cobb/Kennesaw).

Anyone seen DiRT 360 at a CC in the metro area? It didn't come off the delivery truck when it was supposed to at the Duluth store and all stores in my area either have an empty spot by the divider or no divider at all. It's not even on their website to search for it and all of the CC employees are clueless as to how to search their inventory or that of local stores. The reason I ask is because I received a Gift Card with the idea that I could use it for DiRT.

Thanks, but I found one today. It must have been delivered today as they had none Sunday or earlier and no divider in the racks either. On the other hand they didn't have The Darkness, The Bigs or Hour of Victory on the racks which should have arrived today unless they ran the 3 copies of DiRT out first!

On a related note, has anyone seen Virtua Tennis 3 (360) at a CC? I'd definitely get it for that 16.96 clearance price. The girl at CC said they couldn't check on availability of items with their old system, but they were "getting a new system on the 18th." They've looked up items for me before for both in store and local store availability so I don't know what the deal is, but I've been told the same thing repeatedly at four or five stores.

Hi guys.

I have been reading on CAG for some time now, but haven't had a reason to post. I didn't realize there were so many of us around the ATL area. I live in a tiny town of Rockmart and check the nearby Gamestops pretty regularly. I usually get around to Rome, Hiram, Woodstock, Kennesaw, Cartersville and Douglasville. There are 2 Gamestops in Cartersville that have some pretty good finds. One is a converted Rhino that still has a few Genesis, SNES, and PS1 games if anyone is looking. Also, did someone mention opening a comic book store in Hiram in this thread?

Welcome Ultrawolf. I dont know the names of malls around here (I don't go to malls very often), so I don't know where Perimeter is.

Did you suffer under the DM Karen? Now there was a brilliant lady. Years back, she had her stores organize the games on the walls and behind the counter by... the color of their spine or cover. I kid you not.

We all know as customers, we go into a game store and tell them, "I'm looking for something in chartruese."

Found a Virtua Tennis 3! They said they would set the "last one" aside in cust service, but the line was so long that I perused the clearance bin and 360 section first and found a VT3 mixed into the 360 section. CS was still packed when I left so I didn't ask if they had one set aside and the VT3 I found was on the front of the closest end to CS; ie the lazy place to "return" it to the floor so my guess is I found the copy they would "hold" for me. This was at the CC by Lenox Mall downtown. They had a bunch of Tony Hawk American Wastelands for 17 as well.

Perimeter Mall is right off 285 on the north side of the city just east of the 400 interchange. They have a Cheesecake Factory which is worth the trip alone.

Empty as in, it had the original case, original art, instructions; the game disc (which he showed me was in perfect condition as I always ask to see disc condition) was not included. #-o

I'm also a picky ass gamer.Same here.

Me and a buddy of mine drive to a great store in Woodstock. Hey, a buddy of mine worked there for a while. Here's a pic of us in the store when I brought him his Easter basket a couple years ago. Please don't tease me with this? Really? Life would be so much better with a CC and a BestBuy closer.I wouldn't lie about something so wonderful. The big intersection of 278 and 92 where they built the SuperTarget a few years back? Across from that Target they're building tons of stuff to further congest traffic. Little strip malls with generic strip mall stores. Stand alone, they're building a Best Buy and a Circuit City within about 300 yards of each other.

And that Publix that closed when Target opened, that's going to be a Staples.

I don't know if anyone cares, but I stopped by the K-Mart in Rome, GA last night and they had several copies of Tomb Raider Legend for the XBOX 360 clearanced to $15.Not bad. Tell me about it. I still have an empty Zelda WW case from either Last Christmas or the one before when I picked it up for my little bro. Empty as in, it had the original case, original art, instructions; the game disc (which he showed me was in perfect condition as I always ask to see disc condition) was not included. #-o

ewww...I know what you mean. I have finally gotten in the habit of checking every game case before I walk out the door. I have bought a few games only to notice that they were cracked or someone used the disc as a replacement for sandpaper

Hey, a buddy of mine worked there for a while. Here's a pic of us in the store when I brought him his Easter basket a couple years ago. Yes, it's blurry (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v76/guinaevere/photos/k5bunny.jpg). Kid taking the picture had the shakiest hands.

Cool. That must have been before I started going there. I believe Seth was the guy's name that was always there when I went in. Before that we went to a comic shop in Austell. It wasn't bad, they just didn't get a lot of the books I was looking for. And don't even get me started about the one in Rome...

I wouldn't lie about something so wonderful.

I usually go to Hiram at least once a week, so this absolutely wonderful news to me. You have just made my day!

You are absolutely right about the traffic. Sometimes when I am unlucky, I have to drive to Smyrna to work and the stretch on 278 in Hiram is usually just as bad as Windy Hill at 5pm.

Not bad. I've stopped hitting that Kmart, because they've got that nasty habit of marking their clearances. So the stuff sells. And I never find nufin.

They have been slacking on their price marking lately. Tomb Raider was turned in the case where you couldn't see a price tag. And it was marked $20 but scanned for $15. Hard to leave that kind of deal...

I will keep my eye out for any YMMV deals and post to this thread when/if I find any.

I'll have to check that out either Sunday or Monday. I've wanted that for quite a while, and I bet I could trade my standard copy in for at least half that.
I thought about that myself but I am quickly running out of room for my games and the tin is about the size of 2 or 3 regular cases. I originally saw the games over a month ago there and saw that they were still there a couple of weeks ago.

We all know as customers, we go into a game store and tell them, "I'm looking for something in chartruese." Oh lord, how I loathed Karen. I swear everything that's wrong with Gamestop/EbGames is in the management. I heard she got fired recently (finally), I don't know the whole skinny though but it's ALMOST enough to make me want to go back to work there.

Perimeter Mall is in the Sandy Springs/Dunwoody area.

Wolf, I don't know if Karen got fired, but I know she's gone.

But who did get fired... Kathy the Regional Manager, her best friend and the entire reason Karen was a DM with EB in the first place. Kathy was fired for reasons I can tell you if you like. PM if you're wanting to know the story. It's nothing terribly dramatic.

Karen should have stayed with clothing stores. She was with EB, left for a time, then came back. Why? My theory was just to give the store managers and customers a hard time.

The new DM out here (forgot his name, I'm terrible with names) seems to be a decent guy. But time will tell.

Oh, thanks for the location. I had a friend who lived in SS I think. Is that the mall with the Cheesecake Factory?

Wait--- they gave you the case and everything without the game? Even after checking? Owww.

Worst case for me was buying a "new" Donkey Konga 2 when they were clearancing them out... only to come home and find no game with the Bongos. I went back and said something and WOW~! there's the game. (The other workers cursed the "idiot" who forgot to give me the game since they gut the easier to steal items)... different store though, but ouch to your story none-the-less.

Well, I hit 2 CCs checking the clearance games today, and found what I was looking for in Buckhead: Avatar and Meet the Robinsons for Wii for 16.96. I should be able to trade these in at EB for one $50 game, and then even go back to CC and get my price adjustment to compensate for the 25% off sale that starts at CCity this Sunday.

Anyway, the point of all this being, Northpoint CC has only Happy Feet and Ice Age II left. Buckhead has one Avatar left, and maybe 2 Happy Feet or Ice Ages.

I just put a couple of hours into Avatar. It's decent fun, but nothing I'd really want to play for days. Of course, I have never watched the show at all. I imagine that helps to endear the game to someone. Meet the Robinsons got pretty bad reviews... I may try it later.

Two things:

I spotted five Wiis at the Snellville Walmart on Wednesday night. Sorry, no PC access to post earlier. I saw two more at the Sears in Gwinnett Place Mall today.

Also, if anyone sees a non-pink DS Lite in a Blockbuster/Gamerush please PM or post. I have a value card at BB that would pay the majority of it, but the only DS Lites I've found on the eastside of the city are pink. Thanks.

Thanks, just don't trouble yourself too much. I've been calling a bunch on the eastside by entering different zips in the store locator, but I've already noticed five stores that never came up and I had to get the phone numbers from the blockbuster locator instead. Thanks for looking. I actually found one store with two white DSLs. I called every store in the metro area. BTW, the store locator works better if you enter a smaller search area. When I searched by 10 miles, all of the stores in my area come up, but when I searched 25 miles (which I did at first) it doesn't show the closest, just a random selection of stores in the 25 mile area. It also shows closed stores so I called some houses and cell phones. I'll have to go a about 40 minutes from work, so I may go next week.

Those DS Lites must have lasted a long time. About half of the stores have none, but had one a month or two ago, and most of the other half had a pink one. Some had two. One had a black one two weeks ago when I called around to see if this endeavour was worth it. Obviously, they don't have it anymore.

Just a heads up ... I stopped by the Edgewood EBGames today and saw that they had some used Gameboy Players in stock. I decided to purchase one on a whim, and despite it being marked at $30, it rang up as $20! I think they have one or two more in stock if any of you are interested.

Coupled with a Metroid Prime 3 pre-order (Cheapy D's E3 impressions be damned) and a download of the Picross DS demo, and I was pretty happy with myself.

I think, in general, Cheapy tends to give 360 games significantly more credit than they deserve and Wii games significantly less. 360 certainly gets the greatest amount of talk time on the CAGcast. Witness virtually no discussion of Nintendo titles from his E3 trip, save for the shrug at Prime 3 and admitting that Wii Fit will probably sell pretty well. The announcement of Mario Kart Wii, Phantom Hourglass, and Mario Galaxy didn't even get mentioned. Plus, both he and Wombat have said repeatedly that they think the Prime series pales in comparison to the 2D Metroids, which, while a valid opinion, does not jibe with the general consensus.

So yeah, take his views with a grain of salt.

Thanks, but I have a $125 GC for Blockbuster that I would prefer to use on a DS Lite and I actually drove out to Hiram on my break to pick up the LAST non pink DS Lite at a Gamerush in the entire metro area. Apparently, someone else bought the other white one that was there last Friday when I called and was told that there were two.

I've been meaning to explore more of the area anyway. By the way, Hiram seemed pretty nice and not too small townish until I ran into two of the small town prerequisites: the old man who stops right at the entrance and slowly finishes his cigarette and being called sweet pea by the cashier at KMart. Reminded me of home. . .

Those ladies in the electronics department were possibly the sweetest and most helpful KMart employees ever. Plus there were TWO! instead of zero like at most KMarts. I picked up Tomb Raider Legend 360 for 11 after tax and there were at least two left. They had a ginormous amount of games, but I forgot my clearance list. I was hoping to find a different outcome than when I go to my local KMart.

Don't forget the Kmart out I-20 West near douglasville. I haven't been there for a year but it was terrible last time I was out there after visiting a client. At some point the store expanded the electronics section 1 aisle however now they didn't have the single entrance to the electronics department. There solution block off the new aisle with a tv. It was a maze to get to the games and they were just through in the shelves. It was always a great place to find the clearance games though if you found someone to let you dig through the shelves. Best haul I ever found was there...

Its been over a year since I hit hiram as well. Last time I was there a guy in his 20's was looking after the department and it was very well organized. Unfortunately he would buy everything worth a damn and even hide things behind the display case for the next markdown. He would tell you exactly what they had clearance left, but it was picked over. Same thing use to go for the cartersville/canton Kmart as well the department leads took anything and everything...

Doraville and Douglasville were the 2 that had the best items normally. Marietta and Buford would have things, but for some reason never bother scanning the clearance prices into the system.

Now keep in mind its been a year since I hit any of these stores, but I use to have the Atlanta area mapped out quite well since I had clients in Buford, Cumming, Alpharetta, McDonough, Jonesboro, Douglasville, Woodstock, Marietta, and downtown.

As a Tech grad, you're going to need a car or take MARTA to even get to a decent video game store. I suspect with all the other gamers and rampant piracy on a college campus, you probably don't need to pay for games, just play other people's.

FYI - I still loved it there, so don't worry. And I never had issues about being in "Midtown". When you're on campus, it's not really like being in the middle of Atlanta at all.

Oh jeez. Ease up. My wife went there, and her brother's still there right now. I know to those of you who live in East Bumble, Midtown is a scary place, but it's not frickin' Detroit. My brother-in-law liked it so much, he got a condo just off campus with some of his buddies so he wouldn't have to live somewhere else. And he has a car.

I do think you'll be limited in what you could do without a car, but that's true of most places in Atlanta, sadly. But MARTA's easy to access from Tech and you can use it to roll over to places like Edgewood, where there's an EB, a Best Buy, and a Target (though that's where most of the other Tech folks will be going as well, so things may be a bit picked over).

I just remember some friends and I walking through the neighborhood and seeing tons of police cars and a news crew. The reporter filled us in on what happened. We saw the ambulance pulling away. It's weird. The main thing I remember is that my friends had all peroxided their hair at the time as part of some stunt, and looked stupid as Hell.

Anyway, that house is still there, still looks perfectly normal and nicely landscaped. I'm sure a family moved in and they were told as little as possible.

That's part of the reason I'm so glad I don't live in East Cobb anymore: The hypocrisy. Just because your house costs $1 million doesn't mean Johnny isn't upstairs doing drugs. If anything, all of that disposable income helped a serious drug trade thrive in the area, as it does today (ask any cop in East Cobb).

Wow, almost a whole page resulted from my post. Heh.

Indeed I am an "ATL newbie." I don't have any family within 6 hours of the school, and I've only been up here twice to visit it. I actually like what I've seen of Downtown Atlanta. Despite there being a lot of shitty areas, it's a lot better than Downtown Jacksonville, and the homicide rate is a lot lower too! (haha)

I guess my question was answered - I'm not keeping a car for my first year because I think I'd only really use it to drive home, and it's cheaper to fly. Marta can get me to a Best Buy or GameStop I know for sure, but I can probably hitch rides with people from the school if I need to go anywhere else.

I'll stop by the topic periodically to see if there's anything "OMFG" worthy, but thanks for the help.

Gamerguy when it comes to getting in on deals Atlanta is a great area. Your going to be somewhat limited with Marta. However you always can get around to lenox mall or perimeter mall with the northbound trains. Quite a few choics actually.

As for the deals, if you are active in this thread you will see Atlanta Cagers go out of the way to pick up games for each other.

Truthfully a new ATL thread wouldn't hurt with someone keeping the op update with ATL Cag info and local deal info. If it was last year I would jump in, but after the baby and a new job I don't have much free time.

Anyone else think a new thread might be worthwhile? Anyone want to take on the task? Gwen? Neocisco?

Two things

1) Fry's in Alpharetta had about 16 Wiis this afternoon. Only catch is you have to buy a bundle with 2 games. I figure there has to be 2 games that you want though, or else you wouldn't really be buying a Wii.

2) I should have checked while I was there, but FidoDido just noted that the price of Bioshock 360 at Fry's is going to be $50 (better than going to CC). My paper is gone now so can anyone confirm that deal will be going on in ATL as well? Thanks for any info.

I'm still at Tech, but I'll be outta here by the end of the semester. I've enjoyed my time here, and it's really not as bad as these guys make it out to be.

My MARTA advice to you:
- Lindbergh station: Best Buy, Target(?)
- Lenox / Buckhead station: Lenox mall (gamestop), TRU, and Target
- Dunwoody station: Perimeter mall (gamestop) and Best Buy
- Edgewood/Candler Park station: Edgewood shopping center (EB, Target and Best Buy)

Take the Tech Trolley to the Midtown Station, or walk to the North Ave. station if you're in the freshmen dorms. Also, student monthly marta passes are only $30.

Has anyone seen any wavebirds (new or used) recently? I lost the ability to play 2 player cube games on the Wii when I traded in my old system and only other controller. I always meant to pick up a 2nd wavebird, but it looks like I may have waited too long.

Edit: Wow, looks like I spoke a little too soon. I went to a K-mart after work today and after looking over the glass case, came across a pile of misc clearance electronic toys, and in that mess was a "new" platinum wavebird marked down to $18. The box looked like it had been torn open, run over and slapped back together with packing tape, but all the pieces looked to be in good shape. I'll have to wait until Monday, when my Wii returns from Nintendo, to see if it actually works.

Weis and Hickman are usually there every year. They have a booth and are great about hanging out to talk to the fans. I been going off and on for years now. My wife is going down with me again this year, even though she isn't a geek like me. She enjoys the art show, people watching, and the handful of jewelry dealers that come back every year.

I have to say its overpriced and the people who run it do a half ass job. They still try to run it as a volunteer based small con years and you can't when you reach a certain size. Plus there is a loyalty to the hotels who have been with them for years rather then searching out a new venue.

Buying the tickets in advance (6 months- 1 year) is the best way to go if you know you will be down there. I usually just get a one day ticket and go on fridays. As for spending money I normally end up spending 300-400 down there.

Yeah I usually end up getting a piece of artwork or 2 and 1 cool collectible. Since collectibles used to me my business for years I know the markets and alot of dealers still so I do fairly well on them. Normally I look for cool high end collectibles with low production runs. Typically I keep them for my enjoyment to show off in the office. Some pieces are fixtures in the collections others increase in value so much I dump them. Normally they end up paying for themselves. I just sold off a cool statue for $400 I bought earlier last year for $100. Usually sell off a piece I no longer want right before con season to help justify future purchases. Now as for the artwork I am just a junkie bought typically I end up paying $15-80 for a piece, but at this point I have tons and need to maybe thin the herd some.

FYI if you are a dragonlance fan check out larry elmore booth. He gets a booth every year and has some nice lithographs for $50 signed limited to print runs of about 1500.

Also keep you eye out for Rak in the dealers room. He does so cool prints with original chalk drawings of all sorts of characters. I have bought quite a few from him over the years and they are really cool. Especially some of the old school DC characters Flash, GL, Arrow...

Chronicles was the first one, right? I remember that and Legends being great. Tales was okay. And it got silly from there on out. The fact that they're still producing them all these years later is as amazing as it is sad. But my fantasy reading these days is limited pretty much to Tolkien, Harry Potter, and His Dark Materials, so I'm probably not the best judge.

If there is a market for UF plates, then it makes sense for the state to reap the profit that the market offers. Given the extraordinary success of UF's athletic program, I'm sure there has been a large number of requests for the plates.

It really doesn't get much more simple than that.

I don't think I've seen this thread before and just wanted to say hi to my fellow Atlanta area CAGers. :)
I have to give you the obligatory correction. It's CAGs, not CAGers. Carry on.:)

Of course having the name Gator doesn't exactly make you seem unbiased but I agree.:)

Okay, okay, you got me -- I stand corrected. What's next? You'll want my PIN number for the ATM machine? 8-)

My wife doesn't think she's a geek, but she likes boardgames, Doctor Who, Harry Potter, and The Last Unicorn...just saw that for $10 and almost bought it.

My wife doesn't think she's a geek, but she likes boardgames, Doctor Who, Harry Potter, and The Last Unicorn...Depends on the board games. If we're talking grid types, pen & paper type games there's no question she's a geek. If you're talking Clue or Monopoly, she isn't.

Harry Potter is mainstream, The Last Unicorn is what we girls grew up with, so those are fine.

Doctor Who... well, ask her which Doctor is her favorite. Her standing depends on that very answer. If it's the scifi channel new Dr Who, that's no biggie. If she starts espousing the glory days of Pertwee and Tom Baker then you know for a fact, she's a geek. And if she is, say hi for me.

What's next? You'll want my PIN number for the ATM machine? 8-)Yay! For once we didn't have to ask for it.

Yes, if you wish to be a true card-carrying ATL CAG, you'll have to fork over your atm number and pin. We've all donated ours. We're like a little commune. Sharing in each others property.

Okay, maybe not.

I sent a voucher to both you and Tybee as well. I've now exhausted my list. Time for more codes. :-P

Edit: Whoops. I just realized I've got a different friend code than before. They changed it when they repaired my system. The current one is in my profile now.

Dcon seemed to have larger crowds again this year, but it was even more disorganized as ever. They need to get professional people with some common sense to run it. Its overdue for a venue change as well. A feel dealers I know bailed because of the setup with 3 different dealer rooms and a seperate walk of fame area.

Spent more getting in then I did down there.

I guess it's all about what you're going for. I went to the panel for the Fallen Earth MMO, a panel on goldfarming, a cast of Star Trek Next Gen vs. cast of Battlestar Galactica debate, a Funcom Meet and Greet, a Sony Online Gaming panel, a Doctor Who panel, saw a bunch of famous people, saw a lot of awesome costumes, talked to people about pen and paper games they have designed, hell I'd have to look at the program to remember it all. Had a great time.

Posted this in the CC September thread as well:

There were a couple of Xenogears Ep3s in Kennesaw, and a couple Metal Gear Ops, Metal Gear Acid, and God Hand in Acworth. A bunch of other games but those are the ones that stood out to me. So if you want them, go get them.

Oh yeah and about 4-5 VP2s in Kennesaw not marked at the clearance price.

Have any of you guys heard of that new movie "The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters"? I was kind of skeptical when I first saw the trailer, but I saw it in Atlanta last Friday and it was awesome. It's only playing in Atlanta for two more weekends, so I would recommend EVERYONE go see it.

Oh, and of course, I must include a shameless plug. Here's the review I wrote for UGA's student newspaper: Gamers nerd it out in documentary 'The King of Kong' (http://media.www.redandblack.com/media/storage/paper871/news/2007/09/12/Variety/Gamers.Nerd.It.Out.In.Documentary.the.King.Of.Kong-2962070.shtml)

Yup. I'd been hearing about it on the film and video game blogs I frequent for several months now. My parents saw a sneak of it, as did a coworker, and they all raved about it. Hope to check it out this weekend.
