Hey guys, I figured since we totally hijacked that DS Lite thread to talk about everything from cider to live local music....we might as well have a dedicated thread for it. Especially since I think we definitely have the most robust discussions in the Southeast CAG forum!

I'll kick it off by describing my recent EB experience:

I hit the Northlake EB (the one with the cool manager) today to grab some B2G1 goodness. I ended up getting Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (XB), RE2 (GC), and RE3 (GC), all complete and mint for 86.65. Considering that MvC2 goes for $50-60 on ebay, I thought this to be a pretty good purchase! As I was leaving, the manager guy told me that the North Dekalb store had some rare shit right now too, and that I should check it out. What a nice guy!

Anyway, I f'n hate that EB, but I figured it was worth a trip (its not that far from home). I ended up getting complete mint copies of REZ (PS2), LoZ Promo disc (GC, the one with Master Quest), and Cubivore (GC) for $72.20. Cool.

I also got 3 used DS games (preparing for the Lite on Sun) for B2G1. All three of the games (Trauma Center, Advance Wars, and MarioKart) were complete. But, somehow, as the dipshit was ringing me up, the Trauma manual somehow disappeared from the box! Since they insist upon slapping those damned clear stickers on the edges at sale time, I didn't notice the missing manual until I was on the way home. Jackasses!! Well, they had another complete used copy, so hopefully they can help me out tomorrow....but I'm not counting on it.

In the meantime, this dude with a baby was trading in 20 Xbox games (and getting ripped off, I might add), and the clueless employees there couldn't seem to get it all worked out. That poor bastard must've been there for about 45 minutes, and still hadn't gotten the right trade in credit. UGH.

My two trips today really showed me how utterly opposed two EBs within a few miles of one another could really be. And that is why I always go out to Northlake!

/rant

On to more beer talk!! 8-)

I grew up near Sprayberry HS and my parents still live near Lassiter. I always thought the NW Atlanta EB/GS sucked. Except for maybe the GS next to Barnes & Noble & Publix.

If I go to EB, I go to the one on Dallas Highway (The Avenue at West Cobb), they're pretty good there, not the typical EB employees. The EB in Town Center Mall I refuse to go there.

Even though it was usually overpriced, I miss my Media Play!

Yeah, me too. I was a loyal Replay customer and always came in on double/triple point days, used the coupons, and walked away feeling as if I had made some good deals.

Hey everybody!! I live in Lilburn (although it's basically Snellville) and I work near Perimeter Mall. I frequent the EB on Roswell Road quite often as well as Best Buy Perimeter. In fact, I just was in the Best Buy Perimeter Mall store today and PM'd CC on GTA:LCS PS2 for $14.99.

They also have the guides for Gun, Dragon Quest 8, Metal Gear Acid 2 and GTA:LCS (PSP ONLY) for a penny each, which I also got. Not a bad haul for just over 16 bucks.....Funny thing is, the GTA:LCS PS2/PSP guide came out today for $16. It's the EXACT SAME, well basically, as the PSP only guide......I saved $15.98 buying the PSP only guide.....

Anyway, good to have CAG'ers in my area!!!

That's odd, a friend of mine has sworn never to go to the Dallas EB again because of some bad experiences. I knew the former store manager at TC EB and was easily the nicest gamestore employee I've ever dealt with. A few times he even brought out a box of old .01 guides from the back and told me to take whatever I wanted. Of course, he's gone now. The good ones always get chased off.

Just so I'm clear, did you do a side-by-side comparison between the 2 GTA guides and they were essentially the same? I hope so since I got a hold of the .01 GTA PSP guide.

It sure was nice to discover a sub section of CAG for Atlanta. I'm out in Kennesaw with two Gamestops and an EB within walking distance of each other. No idea why they bother to keep all three open to compete with each other.

And yes, I mourn the loss of the Media Play too. I could spend so much time just wandering around that store. Now its empty corpse just sits there. Wish someone would buy it and turn it into something useful.

I just quickly scanned both and they appeared the same. The thing is, the new guide that came out today is for BOTH the PS2 and PSP version, so there's no reason the PSP only guide should be any different. I'm not sure if they had any more PSP only guides. I should have thought to look and pick one up for my fellow ATL CAG'ers.....my apologies......I'll remember next time!

I used to frequent the EB in the North Dekalb Mall - they had the best manager (Sonya) who would remember me and always knew the current deals and would sometimes take a calculator out to figure out how I could get the best trade in if the current deals weren't in the system... then she got replaced with this dude who was a hard-ass about everything - I remember complaining once about a used game without a manual or something, saying I should get it for less but he resisted saying-- and I quote -- "There's a new sheriff in town". Come on!
Thankfully, the folks at the Edgewood EB seem to really be interested in the deals/specials/sales, etc... I went in today hoping they'd have the Guncon/Time Crisis 3 deal, and when I couldn't find it I went to the register, biting my lip. I explained that online they had a deal where Time Crisis with the Guncon was 25 bucks and did they have it here... the girl said "totally!" and scoured the store to find their new copy (stickered as 60$) and was so happy about marking it down and ringing it up for me... very cool experience.

Yeah, I've had nothing but good experiences at the Edgewood EB.

As for the N. Dekalb store...I am very familiar with the "new sheriff in town," and he can suck my ass. He was so rude to me once that I swore I'd never go back as long as he was in charge. And I didn't.

Today was the first time I'd been there in about a year; I only did so because the really nice Northlake manager told me that the jerkoff had been fired from N. Dekalb. Sure as shit, they had a new dude there today; he was a freaking moron, but at least he wasn't a jerk.

Ive only been to a couple Ebgames in my area.
The one in Johns Creek off 141 and the one at North Pointe Mall.

The Johns Creek one is mediocre. The kids that work there are nice but the Manager and Assistant Manager consistently bad (refused online returns and tried to scam me out of b2g1 by not putting it in on one of my purchases) and try to push preorders on you while you are browsing.

North Point is better. I really have only seen one guy ever working there and he has always been polite and friendly. When I get used games, he tries to make sure I get the best disc possible.

Ive been to the Discover Mills Ebgames, Mall of Georgia Gamestop and Lenox Mall Gamestop, but the experiences were never bad.

The Town Center/Barrett Parkway area is so ridiculous. Traffic aside, it always amuses me that there's a Starbucks by B&N, in the shopping center in front of the mall, in the mall itself and one by the Stake & Shake (maybe?). This is a...two mile stretch? Reminds me of Best in Show.

I live in Woodstock myself. There's a decent Rhino's by the Wal-Mart on Hwy. 92, though I didn't get hired there recently so I'm a little biased against it!

The Gamestop on the other end of Hwy. 92, by Target, is really great. The guys in there usually recognize me and we always have a nice chat about gaming.

Oh, man-- I almost made a trip over there on Sunday, and you would have been without one Advance Wars and one Trauma Center. :) At least my other mission to find Phoenix Wright was successful.

I did find a used AWars yesterday at the (downstairs) Perimeter Mall EB, but it was without book or art, and I passed on it. If anyone else can spot a good used AWars DS for me this week, give a shout, por favor.

Regarding Perimeter, there were a couple of really helpful kids in the downstairs EB, but the guys in the (smaller) upstairs store seemed kinda jerky.

There's a really nice guy (who loves him some DS) running the new store at Mansell/Hwy 9. This is right by where I work, so I've been in a few times lately. Might go in with a buddy tomorrow and cooperate on a B2G1 deal. I think Trauma Center must be mine...

Good call on starting this thread.

I am out in woodstock as well. Lived in Roswell for almost 25 years though.

As for stores I end up all over the place since I have had clients in Alpharetta, Downtown, McDonough, and Gwinnett the last 3 years. Locally I stick to the Rhino's off Highway 92 to pick up a few games, if I don't have any GR credit left at the time. Its nice having a place so close to the house, so I try to support them.

Fry's - Near Gwinnett Mall is a must place to stop in if you are in the area. There selection is great and they normally have tough to find games. When I was in there picking up some notebook harddrives last weekend they had multiple copies of every RE for the gamecube. I could have walked out with RE 0-4 for $115 new.

I tend to stay away from EB/Gamestop for the most part. I knew a few asst managers before the merger and all were screwed with the merger. Gamestop paid managers less and Fuck'd a few EB Games managers who were on the higher end.

There's a Fry's near Gwinett Mall? I had no idea, that's great. West Coast people always have great things to say about the store.

It's a pretty long drive from Woodstock, right? I know personally that it's about an hour and a half to get to the Gwinett Arena, is the mall in that same area?

The Fry's is right next to Gwinnett Place Mall. It's about 200 feet from Sears. You can't miss it if you drive around the mall and look across the road from Sears. It's a cool store and their prices are usually good.....

GP Mall area is kind of a hassle, but it is a fun store.

Fortunately, we're getting a second Fry's in Alpharetta. It'll be a little bit north of the Wal-Mart Supercenter @ Windward/Hwy.9, and I think it's already under construction.

I think I remember hearing about that a while back. Glad to hear it's going to happen. That store will make a killing because that Best Buy on North Point does very well, and I'm sure the Fry's will destroy it.

For god's sake, I want a Fry's closer to town! :)

El Grey - I'm tepted to say that they had another copy of Advance Wars DS when I bought mine...I've got to go back there today to deal with that whole "screwed out of a manual" issue, so I'll check while I'm there.

I live in Decatur now, and have nothing but positive things to say about the Edgewood EBgames. They have a decent selection for all platforms, lots of used games, and the chick who works there during the day is pretty cute.

I used to live in Peachtree Hills (south of buckhead, between peacthree and piedmont) and I would visit the EBgames at Chastain Square (on Roswell Rd.) a lot. They had a HUGE selection of used Gamecube games (bigger than any other store I've been too). They also had a good selection of used PC games. The guys there were really nice. Plus all the rich spoiled kids in that neighborhood would trade in their games left and right, so there was always a huge selection. One night those guys hooked me up with the trade 3 GBA games for free Nintendogs despite my lack of a coupon. It took them a while, but they finally did it. They also kept the store open 5 minutes late for me one night when I ran to pick up my preordered copy of MarioKart DS.

The Gamestop on Buford Highway is crap. I guess it's not a bad store, but the employees seemed really pushy, tried to sell me a opened game as new, and were just generally jerks... I stopped going there a long time ago.

Fry's is a magnificent store.... just not for video games. Their games are usually overpriced. The only time you can get a good deal there (for videogames) is if you by a brand new game on release week ... then it's usually $5 cheaper than it should be. Other than that, I really don't enjoy shopping for games there (but I do love playing games on their setup there).

The North Dekalb mall ebgames is pretty weak in my opinion. It's really small and cramped. I guess the selection is pretty good, but it's nothing like Edgewood's. That's pretty much the best store in the ATL area in my opinion.

I concur with Gator on the EB at Chastain Square. I have only been there once, a couple of weeks ago, but their selection is HUGE and the employee that was in there at the time, a female, was very friendly and helpful. Great experience......I recommend that location.....

Applied, got accepted, but never went. At the time, I was looking to get a civil engineering degree. Ah, my foolishness. My wife went her first two years before she graduated from Emory. Perhaps I can reapply to finish my accounting degree....

Augusta is ok. Like I said, I grew up in Marietta. Moved to NC, and this was the closest we could afford to move back to. I won't complain too much, it allows me to stay home with my girls.

I picked up an extra copy of the strategy guides for Dragon Quest 8, Metal Gear Acid 2 and GTA:LCS (PSP version, although same as PS2) at Best Buy today for a penny each. If anyone needs those, let me know and I can get them to you. I'm not looking to profit, or anything, so a small trade, or whatever is fine.

I could use the DQ8 strategy guide if you still got it. I don't really have anything to trade but I would buy it off ya.

It seems all you guys are on the other side of town, no west siders here, eh? I lived my whole life in Acworth until last February I got my own house out here in Dallas. I gotta say, it's a pain of a drive to get to the places I like to go but I do enjoy the more quietness of the area.

I agree with the statement about Fry's game selection. Short of the ultra rares, you can find just about any GC or XBOX game ever released. The prices are not always great, but if you are looking for a game that is hard to find, or just don't want to buy used, check Fry's. I just wish they took American Express.

To the other post about North DeKalb EB, I used to frequent there when I worked in the area and remember Sonya as well. She did a good job of trying to stay up to date on the newest releases. She always solicit opinions and then turn around and let you know what people were saying about a game, even if it was not flattering. I thought that was cool. Its been several years since I have been there though.

Cochese: I grew up right near you. Went to Pope. Folks still live there, near the intersection of Johnson's Ferry and Post Oak Tritt. But I had to get out of East Cobb. ;)

I got a BA in English from UGA and the little woman has an industrial engineering degree from Tech. I know I committed a grave, grave sin by marrying a Yellow Jacket, but at least I didn't get hitched to a Volunteer or (gasp) a Gator (no offense, Gator...okay, some).

The funny thing is, she very nearly went to Auburn.

OK. Who here votes for Gator to be removed from this forum??? j/k ;)

Both are great schools. Florida seems to always be a stumbling block for us come football season, but we seem to have GT's number, at least. While I dislike both schools from a fan perspective, there is no denying that both are very well respected schools academically, and rightly so......

I've been so busy haven't been able to check the forum lately so just found this thread!!! I grew up in Athens, was on a music scholarship at UGA, got a degree at UGA and then I worked at UGA for 4 years..

Fry's is GREAT .. I work in Lawrenceville and my Boss and I live for the Friday Fry's ads. We spend about $100 - $200 a month at Fry's mostly SD cards and such.. the boss just says's its a business expense for my Axim or my laptop :-)

Mall of GA EB - Pretty good selection not to Pushy..

John's Creek EB: not a great selcetion, One pushy Manager but look for the Asian girl that is a manager she is cool.

Northpoint EB: very good manager.. He knows My wife is a HUGE Animal Crossing Fan so he hooked me up when I bought her AC-WW.. He made sure it was complete and threw some promo material in .

The Forum EB (Norcross/Duluth: About the same as Mall of GA. Not bad found some good stuff there..

I got out in early '98, so we were there around the same time. The thing with UGA/Ga. Tech is it's a friendly rivalry. A lot of us grew up together, went to HS together, and playing against each other is fun. Hell, I root hard for Tech in every game except one. But for Auburn, Tennessee, and ESPECIALLY Florida, we reserve nothing but pure, unadulterated scorn. With Spurrier at USC, that list just got a little longer. :booty:

Haha. Being in high school leaves me with nothing to contribute to this conversation.

Have any of you guys had consistent luck at any Goodwills in the area? I just picked up Planescape: Torment and Space Quest 4 at the Woodstock/Hwy. 92 Goodwill for$10.70. SQ4 came in a generic jewel case, but the CD is pristine. P:T came in it's original cardboard fold-out case, which was fairly beaten up, but the CDs are perfect. They didn't have anything else too notable. Myst!

There's a Goodwill over here in Roswell (Mansell @ Hwy 9) and the 2 or 3 times I've been in there, I've never seen anything game-related of note. Pretty good selection of books, but not much else.

Oh, and I've hit the Goodwill in Decatur, too. No luck there.

Aww, too bad. There's one in Canton, but you're more likely to find last year's John Deere there than a mint Legend of Zelda cart. :D I've never been.

Used to see a lot of used Sega Saturn and Sega CD games over at the Newnan Goodwill, but none lately.
Now America's Thrift Store in Riverdale, I usually have a lot of luck over there. There's usually a stack of NES and Genesis consoles for $3-5 (not sure why there's a price range). Also found one of those PS2 snowboard controllers that were around $100 for $8 there.

There's a thrift store called Rowan's on Roswell Rd. near the Big Chicken. It's in the same shopping center as Burlington, the AJC, and the second run movie theater (across from Harry's). They have a nice cache of vintage titles and new stuff for cheap. Several years ago (back in the Game Boy Color or early GBA days) I got shrinkwrapped copies of great original Game Boy games like Mole Mania, Tetris Attack, Kirby's Star Stacker, and Mario's Picross. I also picked up a new SNES Yoshi's Island console bundle after it'd been off the market for years for $45.

They also sell new mainstream DVDs for $15 apiece and a decent selection of new and used CDs for $8. The people who run it are devout Christians, so it's closed on Sundays. But I believe it's open 'til 7:00 every other day of the week.

Ahh, you have revealed the secret. ;) Yes, Rowan's can be a treasure trove. I got a copy of Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones (cart only) for $10 a few months ago, which pleased me greatly.

They've knocked the standard new DVD price down to $12 or $13-- I forget which.

Lots of comics for $1, too.

Myst!

I walked into the woodstock goodwill maybe twice and struck out. I was in there about 4 months ago and all they had was 3 sega genisis cartridges overpriced in the front. Probably still sitting there madden 95, lakers nba playoff, and nhl something.

I picked up Baseball Stars (NES) at the Value Village in Decatur for $1 a long time ago.

I also saw a Vectrex at the Value Village near the Vinings ... I didn't realize what it was until I got home later that night. Of course, it was gone when I ran back the next day :(

Didn't see those, so either someone got seriously duped or they moved them to the 99c store.

I like that particular Goodwill. I've looked at their electronics before, but thought it was a little too much of a crapshoot. While I was there, I overheard the manager complaning about a TV she'd bought at the Roswell Goodwill and how it had crapped out, that they should "test the TVS before putting them out like I do." Always good to know stuff like that.

Just in case anyone is still looking for a 360: the Edgewood Target had 1 premium and 1 core this morning, and the Edgewood BB had at least 2 premiums.

I'm not sure if they're still hard to come by in our area, but that BB seems to have them a lot; in fact, that's where I got mine back in Jan.

Just wanted to throw in another comment about how great the EBGames at Edgewood is.

Last week, I did the B2G1 sale to get games for my new PS2. I wanted to pick up Burnout Revenge, but they didn't have a used copy in stock. Instead, I picked up R&C: Up Your Arsenal. I played a little of R&C, and while it was a good game, I really wanted Burnout instead. Yesterday (on the last day of the return window) I called them and asked about Burnout. Sure enough, they had a used copy in. I run over to do the exchange, but when I get there, they can only find the disc of the used game. I start to get a little dissapointed, but then one of the clerks helps me look for the used box on the shelf. Finally, she turns to me and says, "you know, the new copy is only $2 more, you could just get that and pay the difference." I actually try and explain that I was doubtful that would work, since I bought R&C with the B2G1 used game free deal. She looks at me funny and then proceeds to ring me up with the new copy. Awesome!

That is definitely now my ebgames of choice. If you live anywhere near midtown Atlanta, you should definitely check it out.

edited: to say that the new copy was only 2$ more

I'll be grabbing mine at the Northlake EB on sunday...the manager out there is always super super nice to me. One time I went there looking for a used copy of a game, which they didn't have. He knew I was a regular customer, so he cracked open a brand new copy of the game and sold it to me as used. I couldn't believe it! I love it when employees realize and appreciate their regular customers; it was the exact opposite of the way I get treated at the North Dekalb Mall EB....those guys will never again get my money!

As I siad in the other thread, I had almost the same experience at the NL EB - which in addition to the Edgewood store are the only ones who get my money around here! I'm really glad that the Edgewood store is so good - it would be real easy for that place to go to shit considering the soccer mom/gutter punk/ghetto trash mix of clientele. Here's hoping it stays good for us!

Interesting aside:
When I picked up my DS Lite at the Northlake BB yesterday, I got there a few minutes after 11 am. Honestly, I didn't realize that they opened at 11; I thought it was like 9 or 10. Anyway, I had to go when I did because I had to be a a recording studio at 11:30, and so I knew that picking up the Lite on the way there was the only way to hack it (especially since I wanted to fiddle with it during downtime at the studio ;)).
Anyway, it was like a geek-stereotype parade in that fucking place! You had the 30ish lives-with-his-mom fat dude in the too-small t-shirt and acne, the pale lily-white 12-year old with his librarian-looking mom, and then there was the super-fat heavy-bearded child-molester-looking guy with huge thick glasses. Oh, and there was another kid who looked like he was really into D&D with his fresh-from-hot-topic Nintendo t-shirt on, along with a crystal necklace and lace-up frilly boots.
It was seriously awesome to see all those game-nerd stereotypes all in one place at one time. It also made me feel really sorry for those BB employees who get stampeded by those dudes everytime something new comes out!

Haha, that's funny. When I picked up mine it was me (half-awake girl in a Green Day shirt), an athletic yuppie picking up one for his kid, a 14-15 year old wandering around playing the demo units, probably waiting for his mother to finish getting her nails done next door, and a greasy, blond, surfer guy who ignored the fact that there was a small line (okay, just me) at the register and kept singing along to whatever he was listening to on his iPod. His mother was probably in the car.

There were about a half-dozen guys gathering around the front door before I got out of my car to join the huddle (I wanted to make sure I got a copy of Brain Age). They all just looked like they could have been named "Chad" or "Luke". Nothing too interesting to report.

I did hand off an extra Brain Age coupon to one of the Chads that was buying a Lite and NSMB, and he was pretty appreciative and surprised.

I'd rather buy games from a nice girl than some douchebag dude any day! I have always made a point to NEVER engage any game store clerk in conversation. Ever. For some reason though, these girls at edgewood are just genuinely friendly and pleasant. They deal with a lot of shit at that store (mainly kids running around screaming and parents who know nothing about games), but they're always really helpful with me. And I've had nice conversations with them about the DS Lite and the Wii. While returning R&C yesterday, she told me that she was really surprised I was returning it, saying it was one of her favorite games. Really cool. I think the main difference between them and typical employees is that they're educated and polite -- most employees seem ignorant and arrogant; 2 really awful qualities.

I picked my DS Lite up yesterday around lunch time at the Cobb Parkway BB. There was only one sitting there and I snagged it. Don't know if they had any more in back or not. I had the Brain Age coupon and could not find a copy for the longest time. I gave up and wandered around for awhile before deciding to take one more look. Sure enough, I found one lonely copy buried behind a bunch of other games. My brother will be pleased as I'm going to send it along with my original DS.

Hey ga cagers. Anyone interseted in some project arcade games. I have two games I need to get rid of. I tried to buy them to fix em up but Im broke now that I had a baby. Plus I need the storage room back in my garage.

I have a 1,000 dollar 1991 data east checkpoint pinball machine

and a 800.00 1991 data east avenger 4 player arcade machine.

The pinball machine everything works except the flippers and a ball pop up device. This is a simple problem maybe a fuse. Should be able to be fixed for maybe 200.00. The avengers games worked fine till the other day now it says sound error???? anyway I need to get rid of them.

I will let them go for 500.00 total. Thats for both machines. You can get 500 just from parts out of one game. The cabinet alone goes for about 200-400.

You guys would have to pick it up though. Plus bring a friend for loading it up. I can not pick up such things with my back. Pm me if intersted. I can get pics if you need.

Is that the old Captain America and the Avengers game with Cap, Iron Man, Vision, and Hawkeye? Man, I haven't played that in probably 15 years.

This reminds me of when someone came into where I work and was asking if anyone wanted to buy the old 6-player X-Men arcade game. He was asking $300 for it and if I had the space, I probably would've bought it

I swear the videogame companies are missing a gold mine by not putting those classic four player games into a compilation for the consoles. It should include The Simpsons, Spider-man, Cap and the Avengers, and the one I've been wanting to play forever, G. I. Joe

Granted, I'm sure all of these were made by different companies so we'll proably never see them all on one disc

If I go to EB, I go to the one on Dallas Highway (The Avenue at West Cobb), they're pretty good there, not the typical EB employees. The EB in Town Center Mall I refuse to go there.
urf. The Avenue EB has a sony fanboy as either their manager or Assistant Manager and the dude with the huge ear piercings needs major anger managment training (last time I was in there he scared about two families out of shop, while throwing fit after fit at the computer). They're all friendly enough to me, but they reallly don't know what they're talking about, completely BS to customers (why, I have no idea) and/or are socially challanged.

I thought maybe I was the only one who noticed it, but talking with Chuck and Justin at Hiram, it's definately not just me.

Speaking of Chuck and Justin in Hiram, they're awesome. Well, okay... Chuck has good days and bad days, but for a manager, he has a decent idea of games and he goes out of his way to do nice things for me. =D

That's also the DMs home store, so it's easy to contact her if you ever have a legitimate problem.

The hole in the wall in Town Center is hardly worth mentioning, as it's too friggen clastrophobic in there. But I did enjoy the very loud conversation the AM was having with a couple of his employees around Christmas time about how "I told the District Attorney I can't divulge who traded in what" blah blah blah... Obviously a good number of hot games were traded in, and there was a case involving them. The AM was speaking so loud people in the store across the hall could hear, but that's obviously what he wanted.

As if that's going to impress somebody. The contact information taken on trade-ins is used by corporate to ensure employee honesty, and for just such an allegation. Yeah... he wouldn't "divulge that information." I love how you can tell when a person is using words that aren't in their daily vocabulary.

I shouldn't be so mean, but it just struck me as so phoney to try and get attention and sound important. a) I dislike phoney-ness b) that kid isn't the DA or the police investigating the issue, he's a clerk doing a retail job where they took in stolen merchandise; so why try to make it sound like you're running the show?

No one has mentioned EB at the Arbor Place Mall. As of the past couple years, they've had some great staff in there. Dusty, the new manager (recently promoted after Brent left) is awesome for helping out regular customers. The rest of the staff, including two great gamer girls are pretty darn good. They know their games. A couple of them can get frustrated with stoopid customers, but they're young.

Other than that, they and the staff in Hiram are a good crew.

Texas A&M? I'm just glad you aren't a Longhorn....;)
Now I have the urge to start singing, Boomer Sooner just to get ya riled. =)

Edit: Forgot to mention. The BlockBuster/GameRush on Ridge Road in Hiram is nice too. A decent (if not amazing) selection most days and the clerks are friendly. One of the managers is always very nice to me, and when ever there's a rumor posted here about upcoming sales, I can discuss it with her. If she hasn't heard about it yet, she contacts her area manager to find out if she knows anything.

And when she knows about upcoming sales and that I haven't asked about or mentioned, she very kindly shares that info. =)

That's Perimeter Mall. I have no idea why they have two EB in there, the upstairs one is about as large as a walk-in closet. I believe 5-6 years ago there was a Babbage's downstairs, about as close to the foodcourt as the current downstairs EB.

The last time I saw the same store on two levels of a shopping mall, was a Waldenbooks on both floors of Hamilton Place Mall in Chattanooga. The upstairs one was a franchise and the downstairs one corporate. Eventually the upstairs one closed. I know this isn't the case with these EBs, but like you said it seems to be a big waste of money.

Can I ask everyone here what is probably a dumb question? I'm scared to ask it anywhere else, since I'm sure I'll be flamed.....

I saw Cheapy D's post on the main page about the increasing list of BC Xbox games on the 360. I haven't been able to get a 360 yet, so I don't know the answer to this question: Is there any advantage to playing Xbox games on a 360? I would think it would just be better to keep my Xbox to use for Xbox games, and use the 360 solely for 360 games. One reason is for all of the game saves on my Xbox HDD, also I seem to remember hearing that the 360 merely emulates the Xbox games, so the quality can actually DECREASE, even if it technically works on the 360....

Can anyone fill this fellow ATLien in on this??

Much obliged.....

I meant to come to this thread to ask about the CC sale! I just got a PS2 and need some games... specifically from this sale I'm looking for Killzone & Ratchet & Clank: Up your Arsenal. Maybe God of War as well. How is Sly 2? I'm also slightly interested in that. Basically I'm looking to only spend ~$20, so whatever they have out of those 4 games was what I was going to get.

I was thinking about driving up to the CC at Cobb Pkwy tomorrow at lunch. The only other CC near me is the one in Buckhead. Any suggestions?

Also, Ubiiquitous, I read an article over at Gamespot (or was it 1up?) about backwards compatibility. You're right, there aren't many advantages besides having all of your games on one box. Interestingly enough, the Xbox 360 enables antialiasing, which in turn smooths out the rough edges of original Xbox games (similar to what the PS2 did for PS1 games). The article even had side-by-side comparison pics.

If I remember right its in the shopping center with all the furniture stores. Just go past the old media play/target shopping center down barrett parkway. Its either the next shopping center or 1 more over. Just get in the right lane and drive slow since you can see it from the street. Really its not that great of a store.

You may not be able to see it from the street anymore due to the restaurant.

If you're coming from 75, it's the shopping center just before Bill Heard where the old AMC used to be. The entrance is right before the Wachovia, and the shop is right next to Willys and Nextel(?).

The shop is great if you're looking for classic stuff that is in good shape. You'll pay more for it, but they'll let you play anything before you buy it. Nice people, too. No 'Hey, fucker, bring some trades next time' bullshit.

Demo Man just put up a new list of items. GoW is $17, and most people have found R&C and Killzone normal price. I'm going to hit the CC in Savannah this weekend, and perhaps by the time I get back to the ATL, neo will have some nice Xbox drops for me. :)

Since I am giving myself the day of tomorrow, I plan on hitting a CC or 2 tomorrow. Buddy of mine said the perimeter CC had very little left from the latest $8.96 list. He said driver, gauntlet, ecko, hulk, indigo prophecy, matrix, and batman begins had about 2 each left. There may be more, but he said you had to dig through them all.

Neocisco can probably do a better job updating the town center CC, but when I was in there 2 days ago they had quite a bit of decent $8.96 games left, but since they are labeled correctly they could be picked over by now.

For anyone who lives out towards Actworth I bet the CC out there has a nice selection, let us know. I went in there 2 weeks ago when I was near a client off chastain rd. There store seemed to have a nice selection of quality games since its only been open for a few months I believe.

Since you are in woodstock you should head up to the GR off exit 20 in canton. They always have a nice selection of used games in that store since its out of the way, town parks GR selection sucks ass now. I stopped into the Canton GR when I went up there to Kmart. As of tuesday they still had wavebird/marioparty 4 bundles for $7 at the Kmart up there. Plus the Canton GR had quite of few quality used games and tons of the clearance items left.

I saw Gun, Hulk, Indigo, Matrix, From Russia w/Love, both Rainbow 6s, Batman (xbx) in multiples @ Northpoint. Also, Conflict Vietnam (xbx) from the $4 list.

No Castlevania or Syphon Filter or Ecko (ps2), as I was looking for those specifically. Is the Xbox Ecko LE on sale, too?

There seems to be a pretty good batch of the $8.96 PS2 titles available at a certain local CCity. Anyone looking for any of those in particular?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v76/guinaevere/smilies/wave.gif Hello!!! Katamari for the PSP and Gauntlet if anyone finds it. I called every local CC in the Phoenix area (where I am until next friday), and no luck.

Oh, also if anyone finds .hack part 3, please pick that up. It should be down to 3.96. Xbox PSO 1&2 for 3.96 as well.

As if he had a choice. There is a better GS right down the street, and the Trade n Play is a much better choice if browsing. Grab a burrito at Willys and go to town.
Trade n Play? Never heard of it. Kennesaw area?

Forgot to mention a game shop in Discover Mills, close to Books A Million. Lots of 16bit games, though they charge alot. Of course, rent in Discover Mills has to be really expensive, so that makes sense.

It was when CC had their clearance/sale two or three weeks back. I don't know if they've raised the price back since then.

I ment to ask you this awhile back and I figure some of the other atl cags may be curious as well. How exactly does CC handle the free demo's and How do I go about getting them? I heard there was a free lemmings demo for the PSP and I have never seen any demos actually in the store.

The promo stuff should be in the drawers at the checkout registers. Just ask the cashiers if they have any old promo items and they should be more than happy to get rid of it. It will probably scan at .01. The Lemmings demo is actually put away but I'll put some at the registers tomorrow so they can give them away.

I have heard some people in other parts of the country mention eb/gamestops with the old ace combat flightsticks bundles in stock for $80 markdown. If anyone sees one at a local store let me know.

FYI to anyone reading one of the old ATL threads about 2 weeks back. All the Donkey Konga/Jungle Beat bundles marked down to $16/22 are gone from the woodstock Wal-mart.

There were 32 copies of Madden 2006 PS2 at the local super target. I believe they are marked $13.98 and will be around for awhile. Anyone wanting last years madden should be able to pick it up cheap after another markdown or 2. Probably be 7.98 or 9.98 in the next round of markdowns...

No kidding. I stopped in the CC not far from the Galleria on 41 (across from Johnny Rockets, not the CC that just closed which also was a disaster) a couple months back, and the game department was beyond a mess. If I were management there, I'd be absolutely ashamed. Not to mention that those tall dividers look as if they were designed to aid shoplifters.

I'll be honest, I'm partial to the Douglasville shop, the game dept is fairly well taken care of, though the kids working there know nothing about the games if you ever go so far as to ask a question... Not an indepth question mind you, but something along the lines of, "Do you have Ultimate Fish Fryer for the GameSystem 2 in stock?"

Anyway, I haven't been IN the Kennesaw CC in over a year. So when I get back home, I'll stop on by.

Yeah I was in cumberland 2 weeks back and I couldn't believe how trash the area was. Worked out for me since I was willing to spend 15-20 minutes digging and walked away with about 8-10 games from the old clearance for $1.96 to $5.96. Don't remember everything, but I did find a wario world NGC and a few decent games I had been looking for...

Yeah, two years ago we lived in Smyrna pretty close to Cumberland and it is definitely an area in flux. Now I just work up here and do most of my lunchtime shopping at these stores. It can be trashy (especially at the mall), but once the major renovation of the mall is done and they complete the new event hall they're building next to 75, I suspect things will perk up considerably. Despite appearances, real estate in the area is quite valuable, as much of it is still considered ITP (call it "Smynings" or "Vinings North"). We only owned our house there for less than two years and still ended up with a $40,000 profit. And it makes sense, with people living way the hell out in Woodstock, Cumming, and all over Gwinnett. When you think about it, is the Mall of Georgia enough consolation to make up for a 90 min. commute? I'd rather live closer in and maybe not have the shiniest mall.

So, any more insight into the CC sale in the ATL area?? I'm a little confused by this sale... I went to the CC at Cumberland during lunch today and they had a TON of the games on the list. I took Killzone, R&C:UYA, and Sly 2 to a clerk to do a price check, but they were all listed at their normal prices. The other games on the list were marked full price as well. I know that the specific games that I picked up were YMMV, but the other games weren't enticing enough for me to ask for another set of price checks.

Anyhow, I was about to give up when I found a different copy of R&C:UYA w/ a $10 sticker on it. I took that to the cashier, and despite it ringing up for $20, she went ahead and manually changed it to $10 w/o me having to say a word!

So what gives on this sale? Any advice would be appreciated. If someone here wants me to pick up something for them at Cumberland, let me know. They had a copy of Indigo Prophecy, a couple copies of ATV Offroad 3, NFL Street 2, Driver Parallel Lines, etc. Lots of stuff!

Count yourself lucky. My wife grudgingly approved my DS Lite purchase, and after seeing it next to the original scoffed and declared it clearly inferior to the original: "It's not all that much smaller, there's like no difference in the brightness and it's not as comfortable to hold. You just like it because it matches your iPod. You're such a lemming."

And yet she has six pairs of shoes that look exactly the same to me.

There is a HUGE difference in brightness and it has smoother edges, so it is a lot more comfortable to hold when playing. And seeing that I carry my DS everywhere with me in my purse, the afternoon that I carried my younger brothers lite in my bag instead of my own... I can tell you, the dsLite is a great deal smaller as well. I think she just must be fooling with ya.

But if she isn't this is when you turn and look her in the eye and speak from the heart. "Darling, you're right as always. It does match my iPod. One of the many, MANY things I'm learning from you, is how to coordinate and accessorize." http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v76/guinaevere/smilies/wink.gif

I know that's true, and you know that's true, and maybe even she knows that's true...But she won't admit it. She's just annoyed because she thinks it's a waste of money (which, let's be honest, in the big scheme of things, it is) and it replaces the original DS that she drove all over town to get for me as a surprise for Christmas two years ago.

I saw lots of (supposedly) hard to find titles like Hulk UD, Wild Arms 4, Indigo Prophecy, and Radiata Stories. I didn't find any copies of Time Crisis: Crisis Zone, We <3 Katamari, or Eye Toys (besides the 2 that I bought for me and El Gray). Ah ha! That right there is the heart of the issue!

It's for similar reasons that I'm unable to part with my DS. My younger brother, my best friend and gaming buddy, imported a candy pink (a color unavailable here in the states) DS for me for my birthday (and as we have the same birthday it's even more of a sentimental issue). I mean, how can I possibly put that on the shelf?! Of course, when he's playing his very shiney and very Very bright ice blue dsLite, it's hard for me not to want one. (Just in a pretty girly color which so far, isn't available.)

I think he's testing just how devoted I am as a sister.

You rock Gator! I picked up Radiata for $5 when BB cleared them out, and I'm good with the other titles, but I'm sure other atlanta CAGers will be hitting you with location requests. =D

Well, what I'm doing with the old one is sending it to my little brother, who can't afford a video game system, along with some games for his birthday. My wife said she'd rather I sell it, but I told her I wouldn't be able to get much for it at this point and it would mean much more to my brother, which she accepted. So I figure, received in love, sent on in love.

Some more backstory: In 2000 I flew out to L.A. to cover E3 for a Web site I wrote for at the time. Since my brother lives out there, I brought him along. While I was doing some interviews, he secretly won one an original GBA (three months before they were due to launch) at the Nintendo booth by waiting in line for three hours to play the roulette game they were running that year. After the show was over he, I, and one of my co-editors were sitting around waiting to leave for the airport and musing on how cool it would be to have a GBA. And what does he do but pull one out of his bag and hand it to me. I couldn't believe it. I still have that unit.

My reaction was the same when Mrs. Tybee got me the DS for Christmas (I hadn't even asked for it because I knew it was going to be such a pain to get and we didn't have a lot of expendable income at the time). Utter shock and delight.

Aww, that's a really sweet story.

When I was younger I would ask for a PSX/N64/whatever for Christmas, and never got it. My parents were strange, they would get me any PC game I asked for, a new video card or more RAM, but they just refused to get me a console. When the GBA came out I dutifully asked for it...imagine my delight on Christmas morning when they actually got it for me!

Rock on! As nice as it is to get a few bucks back when you can, it's always better when you can be a blessing to someone. =)

Some more backstory: In 2000 I flew out to L.A. to cover E3 for a Web site I wrote for at the time. <snip> And what does he do but pull one out of his bag and hand it to me. I couldn't believe it. I still have that unit.
I see that brother Tybee rocks just as much. And that is a great story!

Only thing game related that I've won that I can recall is a Chomp (you know, from Mario) soccer ball from Nintendo Power earlier this year. I need to take it to a field and take some pictures. It's the coolest thing ever... next to going to E3 with your brother... and he, winning a GBA.

My reaction was the same when Mrs. Tybee got me the DS for Christmas (I hadn't even asked for it because I knew it was going to be such a pain to get and we didn't have a lot of expendable income at the time). Utter shock and delight.awww! =D

When I was younger I would ask for a PSX/N64/whatever for Christmas, and never got it. My parents were strange, they would get me any PC game I asked for, a new video card or more RAM, but they just refused to get me a console.Huh. Maybe they didn't feel there was enough room to hook up a console to the tv?

When the GBA came out I dutifully asked for it...imagine my delight on Christmas morning when they actually got it for me!Yay!

GBA rocks. I never really got into handheld systems until the GBA... and I've been playing video games since 1979... we'd be first in line for the latest console on release day. The first handheld we got was in 1992. The sega game gear, was it? Dang that thing was huge. But I just didn't get too into portable gaming until Pokemon Ruby.

Don't laugh. Pokemon are awesome. Along with my desire for a pet Yoshi, I also desire a herd of pokemon. *giggles*

The Roswell Supertarget had a few copies of Infected PSP $19.98, NBA Street Showdown PSP $20.98, and 187 Ride or Die Xbox $9.98.

Me & My Katamari for the PSP was part of the markdowns to $19.98, but they didn't have any in stock.

Huh. Maybe they didn't feel there was enough room to hook up a console to the tv?

It was a very strange situation, because they bought me a TV for my room so that I could occasionally rent Playstations, etc., from video stores...but they just wouldn't buy me one! Ah, parents. Totally inexplicable.

I haven't heard good things about 187 Ride or Die. Any idea if it's even worth $9.98?? That's a good price for a not-too-old game...

I wouldn't recommend it. Not even at $10. That $10 is better used towards a game you'll actually enjoy playing, holla.

No luck on the FFIV. I bought one there for 22.99 a couple of weeks ago, though, so I get to go pricematch that down sometime soon. :)

As for what I did get:

Ultimate Spidey DS (2-3 left)
Pac N Roll (maybe 2 left)
Trace Memory (3 left I think)
Tales of Phantasia (got the last one)
Getting Up LE, PS2 (1 left)

NO luck on Sword of Mana or Metroid Zero Mission or GTA: GBA

They DO have, for DS:

Polarium (4x)
Spyro
Ultimate Spidey
Dragonball Z
Finding Nemo
Guilty Gear (1x)
Incredibles
King Kong
Marvel Nemesis
Monster Truck DS
Pac N Roll
Tiger Woods (2x)
Trace Memory

Good luck!

Edit: Also of note, they have marked the PS2 games at 8.96, and have them in a bin in the center of the store. Indigo, Hulk, Gun, Russia, others still available. There's an Evil Dead game in there that I didn't remember from the list... and the FRIENDS game. Heh.

If anyone really (and I mean REALLY) needs to know, I can stop on my way home from work. I work on Roswell Rd. and live in Snellville, so I go home 285 East every day......

Let me know by 5pm, but only if it's a huge deal. I'm not just going to do it for the sake of curiosity.... ;)

No problem. =)

The absolute best thing about 187 Ride or Die are the Mega 64 spots. You can see them right off of Ubi's official page (http://www.187game.com/us/index.php) under News. Video one (can coolers) is stoopid, but two and three are good for a laugh.

NO luck on Sword of Mana
The Rome TRU had it on clearance a couple years back for about $7 and I didn't pick it up. Nothing else struck my interest, so I figured I'd hit the TRU in Douglasville and get it there.

Since that day, I have never been able to find Mana for less than $30. >_<

kjauburn
06-23-2006, 02:56 AM
EL Gray which ones did you hit and was there anything left worthwhile? Going to try and hit one more store tomorrow and I will update on what I see...

I hit town center first thing in the morning and picked up advance wars DS, tales of Phantasia, FF IV, and SW episode II DS. The list I was working off of was limited since it was early in the morning, but they seemed to have a decent selection of the markdown games. Most games only had 1 or 2 copies available though. Neocisco were you there in the morning if so I think I was talking to you for a bit. Remember I was there about 10:30 Thurs morning so who knows what is there now. Games I can remember them NOT having any of include Metroid Zero Mission, Metoes, Wario Ware, Spyro DS, Sword of Mana, Lunar.

Hit Northpointe around 8:00 tonight to pick up the titles added throughout the day. Ended up getting last mario party advance and a copy of sigma star saga. Overall Northpointe's selection at this point wasn't that great. They did NOT have advance wars ds, metroid zero mission, wario ware, lunar, sword of mana, spyro ds, metoes, Tales, Drill Dozer, or FF anything...

El Gray
06-23-2006, 03:03 AM
Lunar was at Northpoint earlier today, as were Spyro (I think?), Tales (I got the last one), and Drill Dozer (I left 1 there at about 7 pm after I bought one).

I hit Perimeter and Buckhead. Will elaborate more tomorrow. Must sleep.

Thanks! We'll have to get together this week for a drink or something.

I didn't know Advance Wars DS and Meteos were on the list. Dang. If anyone sees either of these, grab me one. I'll check the Cumberland CC this afternoon if no one's hit it yet.

El Gray

I never saw Advance Wars DS or Meteos at any of the 3 stores I hit, and I was looking for those games specifically.

Gwen, do you still need Xenosaga II? I have one of those, too.

El Gray

To elaborate on my findings, the Northpoint and Perimeter stores didn't have much of interest. I made it back to NPt in time to get two of the copies of Drill Dozer that I remembered seeing, leaving one on the shelf. Nothing else of interest to me. Nothing great at Perimeter, either, but I did buy one of the Zelda/Pitfall double packs to maybe use as a gift or to trade (anyone really need that one?).

Buckhead was better. I got 3 GBA titles there: Yoshi Topsy Turvy, DK King of Swing, and something else that I can't even remember right now, as I am still sleepy. There were 2x Tales of Phantasia left at this store when I left last night. There are some friendly girls working in the games dept. of this store. :)

I stopped by the CC at Cumberland at lunch. I hadn't read this thread yet, so I wasn't able to check on most of peoples' wants. But I can tell you what they didn't have that I checked on - they did NOT have:
Batman Begins, NGC
NBA Street Vol 3, NGC
Advance Wars, DS
Dig Dug, DS

They did have a lot of other games on the list. I managed to grab the last copies of SW:E3 (DS), Burnout DS, & Goldeneye DS. They also had Fightnight Round 2 for the GCN.

I also returned my copies of Indigo Prophecy, Wild Arms 4, Splinter Cell: CT, & Karaoke Revolution 3 (all PS2) that I bought earlier in the week; no one wanted them in a trade), so they'll be back on the shelves soon.

I know that's a random list of games, but that's what I can remember. Hope that helps!

Yeah I just got back from town center as well. I picked up 2 copies drill dozer, but there was one on the shelf still. Neocisco can probably update everyone on what's left better then me. He was just finishing labeling all the games with the correct price tags when I was there. So not only is everything organized correctly, but its tagged correctly. There is a good selection of games left, but he said he already had to drive some hoarders off telling them there was a limit.

Swung up to the Actworth store after I left town center (its about 8 minutes north on highway 41 from barrett parkway) and someone definitely had hit it up hard. Its a new store so normally the overall selection is smaller but they usually have huge stacks of the games they do have in stock. I know they had a stack of about 8 advance wars ds and maybe 15 FF IV when I was in there a few weeks back. Today there were large wholes where the titles used to be. The only ds titles the actworth store had left were...

ulitmate spiderman ds X 15
burnout legends X 5
king kong ds X 20
dig dug ds X 15
need for speed underground 2 X 15
Dragonball Z Supersonic Warriors 2 X 5

Here are some of the other items I remember seeing. I didn't check the xbox section much, but they did not have the halo 3 pack...

Dr. Mario Puzzle League X 12
Dynasty Warriors Advance X 10
Goku 1 & 2 Compilation (Legacy of Goku) X 5
Pac Man Pinball X 5
Sigma Star Saga X 2
Spyro Superpack X 2
Full Spectrum Warrior X 4
Indigo Prophecy X 5
Matrix Path Of Neo X 10
Getting Up X 10

If anyone sees a copy of GBA Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World grab it for me. I know its a slim chance since its a older game.

A buddy of mine was in Cumberland today as well. He said someone actually spent some time organizing the games and there was a good bit of the older titles on the list including the gba pitfall/zelda 2 pack. The games that are in higher demand like FF, advance wars, etc seemed to be mostly gone. Now that the place is organized I bet it gets raped. For awhile perimeter and cumberland were the stores to go to since they were so screwed up no one would take the time to look at the games. I bet perimeter still has copies of XIII for $1.96.

I have a request for any CAG's that frequent the Kennesaw area. I'm looking for the following PS2 games:

Ultimate Spider-Man, Hulk: UD, Warriors and Gauntlet: SS.

I think Cumberland had as many as 8 USM earlier today. I'd like to trade for these if I have anything on
