Does anyone know whats a good program to convert AVI files to MP4? So i can watch it on my PSP. How long does it take to convert 170mb Avi? And how big is the file after conversion?

PSP Video 9 is the program to use. It's a free download, and it can convert the file and move it to your PSP for you.
I don't know how big the file would be after conversion. It depends on the output settings you use. PSP Video 9 has a large selection of video output presets, so the size and time required will vary.

Nero recode is by far the easiest to use although its not free. All you have to do is add the video, select psp format, then how much room you have of the memstick and it'll automatically adjust the video to fit. You can also set it to burn directly to the psp. Takes me normally 30mins for an hours worth of video to convert.
Heres a tutorial: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/encode_files_for_psp_nero_recode.cfm

I use Nero Recode, seems good...the sound is always a little quiet, but I can deal with it...fine with headphones.
I've tried PSPVideo9 also...seems ok, not the most user-friendly software.

PSP Video 9 is something you're going to need even if it isn't your main conversion tool. It's the only thing I've found so far that can change properties of files on the PSP.
Say you create a new MP4 file but didn't give it the right title. Or forgot to enter anything and it now appears on the PSP with a generic title. PSP Video 9 lets you edit the file metadata in place on the PSP while it is connected via USB.
I'm in the process of reviewing two commercial packages for creating PSP video content. They are both 'everything but the kitchen sink' approaches but for the core objectives neither does as good a job as the combination of Windows Movie Maker and PSP Video 9. Both of which are completely free. The commercial packages offer some good features here and there but overall compare poorly to free downloads. PSP Video 9 can be a bit arcane for novices but is worth the effort. It is still an ongoing project and has seen major improvements in its short existence.
Windows Vista will come with a much upgraded replacement for Movie Maker that is more competitive with the Mac's iMovie. It will likely include direct profile support for the PSP, although there may be a small cost for the MP4 encoder license.

I prefer PSP Movie Creator, as it also converts .RA files, you can easily control bitrate, screen size, and volume.
