I got a Sega CD yesterday and I have a bit of a problem. When I start up a Sega CD game the picture is black and white most of the time. I removed the 32X attached to the system and the picture was in color, with some crappy looking FMV (pretty sure that's normal). Does anyone know how to make the Sega CD work with the 32X attached?

Do you have the metal clips that go inside the Genesis cartridge slot? Its supposed to come with those, to shield from RF interference from the 32x. Without them, you'll get the symptoms you describe, or it won't run at all.

Also, are you using a Genesis 1 or 2? With the Genesis 2, you need a plastic spacer underneath the 32x to keep it in the proper position, it won't work correctly if its inserted all the way into the Genesis 2 without it.

I have a Genesis 2 with a model 2 Sega CD and 32X, and I've lost both the metal clips and the plastic spacer. I'm using aluminum foil for the RF on one side, and on the other, I'm using a piece of metal from a floppy disc as a shield, and to hold the 32x unit up. I'm trying to figure out a more permanent solution if I can't find either.

Theres a diagram of the parts on this page:

They're included with every new 32X, if you bought yours used and it didn't include them, it wasn't complete.

The 32X I got came with both and are used. I suppose I'll fiddle with the metel parts.

Yeah I remember it took a little time to get the whole thing working together. The 32x by itself was a pain in the ass let alone with a sega cd...

Honestly, unless you have a Sega CD game that requires the 32X, theres really no need to have it insterted in the Genesis. Then again, I only ever had 2 games for my 32X, Doom and Star Wars Arcade. So it was hardly ever used. In fact I have it sitting about 4 feet from me...
