I would give it a shot. Just don't be too pushy and be honest about it. Or, if that doesn't work, buy another controller and then exchange the defective one in it's place. You might could even get a refund on the defective one when you return it. I'm finding gamestop very hit and miss on customer service right now.

I think this depends on how well you know the people at the store. Though, I've had some bad experiences with Gamestop (I got into an argument because I wanted to exchange a game I got for Christmas, but didn't get to disc 2 until after the return period was over. It didn't work. So, I tried to return, they told me all I could do was sell them the game and buy a new one. I argued on why they would want to buy a defective game).

If you know the employees, maybe. But, even though I'm against scamming stores, at the 8 day mark, I would buy a new one and return the defective one in its place.

You have 30 days to return defective stuff but 7 days if you want to do a return or exchange because you don't like it.
