I really want this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000ANDBSK/026-7338887-6511651

but I'm not sure it will even work...

Ricky Gervais is the man. And I'm 95% sure Xbox 360s only play NTSC but I could be wrong.

The show was broadcast in the US on HBO. It will likely get an NTSC release if you're patient. Amazon has a placeholder page for it where you can indicate interest and they will email you when it gets a release date.

I know but I want to watch it now!! If you've never seen it do yourself a favor and watch it when you can - it is hilarious.

Buy a cheapass Cyberhome DVD 300S player for like $20, set it to region code 0 with a few remote preses and thanks to the NTSC<-->PAL converter in there you now have a cheapass region free player, for a year til it breaks anyhow.

Even if the PAL DVD would work on your TV (which it won't), you are locked out on the 360 by the DVD Region 2 coding.

It's an HBO release, so it will probably cost $75. ;)

I tried but it just didn't work for me. The 'medicocrity has irrepressible belief in wonderful talent if he can just catch a break' genre tends to wear on me. I also hated that Lisa Kudrow show that was a variation on the same theme.

Just buy a region free PAL to NTSC converting DVD player and you never have to worry about any of that shit again. I have two and they are fantastic, although it's not really worth it for one DVD (although it's almost worth it for just Spaced (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0187664/) alone IMO).

That Lisa Kudrow show was complete garbage - seriously one of the worst shows I've ever seen. Extras is brilliant - it doesn't really matter what it's about - it's the suble humor that makes it great. Plus, the guest star in each episode does a fantastic job at self-parody:

Ben Stiller: "How can I cheer up this orphaned kid? By showing him the DVD of Dodgeball? Well, sure, then he'll be happy for an hour and a half, but what then? Do I show him Dodgeball again? Of course, he'll get more out of it, because he'll spot new things the second time round. It's layered; it's written that way. But how many times can I show him Dodgeball? Seven, eight, maybe. Then what?"

Patrick Stewart: I will "Make It So."
[blank look from Rickey Gervais]
PS: You've seen "Star Trek: The Next Generation?"
RG: I haven't, no.
PS: Why? Your wife won't let you have it on?
RG: I'm not married.
PS: Oh, your girlfriend then?
RG: I haven't got a girlfriend either. I live alone.
PS: You're not married, you haven't got a girlfriend... and you've never watched "Star Trek?"
RG: No.
PS: Good Lord...

Patrick Stewart (again - great episode) [explaining his screenplay]: "Policewoman rides up to me and says "Hey, You cant ride on the grass, and then her clothes fall off. And while she is running around trying to pick up her nickers, I've seen everything. And then I ride off.......on the grass."

And listening to Kate Winslet talk about "polishing her Oscar" and "putting it in the basement" and "can't wait 'til you put your Willie Wonka between my umpalumpas" is about as funny as it gets... you should really give it another chance - there's only 6 episodes so far...

Yeah Extras is pretty hilarious. I know this is blasphemy to some, but I liked it better than The Office.

Yeah, regardless of any coding you need something to convert signals from PAL to NTSC. A DVD player that does that isn't so expensive any more. I bought my Malata for about $100. Great for watching all the extrememly well done digital remasters of the Shaw Brothers library done by Celestial and released as region 2 dvds in Europe.

I tried a PAL DVD that I burnt from the internet and it worked on the Xbox 360. The DVD image is free and legal if anyone wants to try that doesn't believe me.

He's right, I tested a few PAL discs and they worked fine. There's still the issue of the Region 2 encoding though. If you really wanted to go through with this you could put the R2 disc into your PC's DVD drive, use DVD Decrypter/DVD Shrink to get them to the size of a DVD-R and strip the region encoding, burn it and then they'll play on the 360. It might sound complicated but the whole process is actually ridiculously simple and doesn't take too much time. Personally I'd just invest in a decent region free player since they're pretty cheap nowadays.
