I have been looking all over for The Wonder Years on DVD, and to my suprise, it seems like EVERY SINGLE TV SHOW EVER has been released on DVD, except my beloved Wonder Years. Is there any plans on releasing one?

Not to my knowledge. I think I remember reading an article awhile back stating that it was one of a handfull of shows yet to be released due to the music. Something about not having the license to use the songs anymore.
EDIT: Here's an article I found.

Well there is this ..
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/6305053987/qid=1149943190/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/103-9400517-4583835?s=dvd&v=glance&n=130
But unfortunately it's the same deal as what is going to be available for Perfect Strangers .. just a crappy Best Of compilation. I'm hoping for a full release for both of these shows in the not to distant future.

Yeah,
unfortunately, the original songs aren't included. The music was a big part of that show IMO. The Wonder Years without Joe Cocker at the beginning just isn't the same.

For some reason I never liked that show, don't know why just never really got into it.

agreed, putting in different music is a bad idea, they should get the rights to the original music

Miami Vice was held up due to the same issue...not sure if they resolved it or just changed/removed the songs.
I also head that Married w/ Children had to take out the theme for dvds. Can anyone confirm??

It's the same with Malcolm in the Middle, they only have Season 1 out on DVD and the rest of the series on DVD is in limbo.

It's extremely expensive to get the rights to the songs. I remember Freaks and Geeks spent a buttload to get all the music right for the DVD release. Thank god.
21 Jump Street took the other (low) road. Replaced all of the original music with fucking canned crap by unknown artists - you could just feel it was a rush job. Horrible, horrible, show ruining decision.
To the poster who asked about Married with Children - yes, they use a generic intro song (instrumental) for the DVD - that didn't bother me as much, because it's just one song and not integral to the actualy execution/mood of the show once it gets going. Some people were really fuming about this. To each their own. The irony is that on one of the episodes, the closing credits still has the original music (ooops!)... I'm sure someone got fired.

Seasons one, 2, and the bests of for Married have the original song. 3-onward have and will have the altered music.

Another article:
The music-licensing hurdle is substantial. "The Wonder Years" borrowed more than 300 pieces of music for its 115 episodes. Even more daunting is the fact that the music is from what has emerged as a resurgent, nostalgic era.
...
The only two DVDs of "The Wonder Years" out now - "The Holiday Episodes" and "The Best of The Wonder Years" - both used replacement music.

She still has the face of her 10 year old (or whatever age) of her character...
And PKRipp3r, if these shows we're actually offered on DVD, people would actually buy them and not resort to buy them off ebay and such
Wasn't this recently announced as a first season coming out on DVD? I thought I read that somewhere.

Thanks for the info. It really is painful for a real fan of Married with Children. Even though it is just the theme music, it is absolutely integral to the show. It just sets up the mood for Married with Children.

Miami Vice (at least seasons 1 and 2), must have resolved the issues, as all original songs are in place (and this fact is prominantly featured on the packaging).

Scrubs is another show that had music rights issues. If I recall correctly, they swapped out a few songs for the first season DVD set.
The odd thing is, some of the songs that got cut from the DVD were on the show's soundtrack album.

Dawson's Creek is the same with the music....I mean, uh, so I've been told.
Its got a different opening theme (which is pretty strage to hear) and a lot of the trendy, billboard top 20, music that the WB likes to use in their shows has been replaced with a lot of generic stuff.
I mean, not that I care. I don't watch it. I, uh, got it for my little sister. Yeah...yeah, that's it. My little sister. :^o
Now I've got to go watch some Ultimate Fighting Championship. :boxing: Yeah, that's what I like. Yeah, watch some UFC while I play some GTA. :twoguns: I'm a man's man darnit! Well not a man's man like...you know...ah forget it.
