Next week, I plan on picking up a 360 for a bunch of reasons. I'm really looking forward to Dead Rising and Too Human, also, I'm a college student working towards becoming a game designer, and I'm really intrigued by how well the simpler XBLA games are doing. So, not only is it gonna be fun, but educational too :D (Go go tax write-off). Anyway, I need some advice about what kind of stuff I should pick up with it. I'll have about $550 to play with (assuming my ebay auctions go poorly and sell for minimums)
I'll be buying a Premium pack. Does this come with any MS Points? Also, what kind of A/V cables does it come with? My TV situation is currently the suck, as I am running my consoles into a R/W/Y input to RF converter, and connecting with that. It's a pretty old TV, and I hope to replace it soon, if I sell more stuff on ebay.
I have XBL on my original Xbox, so I can just transfer that over, right? If I do transfer it over, will I still have Live access on my XB1? I want wireless on the 360 but I'm not paying 100 bucks. Can I just attach a USB Wireless dealo on it? The positioning of the console and PC makes ICS unusable. Also, does the XB1 headset work on the 360? I remember hearing something like you can just plug the headset part w/o puck into the controller, but I'm not sure.
I'd like to pick up a second controller, but a wired one. This way I can use it on both the 360 if a friend wants to play, and on the PC for my emulators and GameTap. Could I use a third-party one on my PC okay? I'd like to just get something cheap like this MadCatz one. http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=802218
Finally, the games. I want to get GRAW and FNR3. I'd also really like Full Auto, but I know I'm not gonna have enough. I'll just get that later down the line. Any other suggestions? I play most genres except for sports (FNR3 being an exception...played the current-gen version and it was really cool), but I really like RPGs, Music, Action/FPS, fighting (DOA4's also on the list of "When I Have Cash") and weird games (like Indigo Prophecy, Killer 7, etc, games out of the norm...which the 360 seems to have a definite lack of. But, to be expected with a new system).
Thanks for the help. Any advice will be very much appreciated :)

Well, you have a lot of questions but I'll try to answer most of them.
No, a premium 360 does not come with Marketplace Points but for $20, the are worth it for 2 reasons. UNO and Geometry Wars!
Premiums do come with HD-AV Cables as well as normal cables, I believe.
I'm sure it will work as long as you have the R/W/Y hook up. I have the same thing on one of my TV's and it works fine.
Yes, it's easy to transfer over your Xbox Live Account as long as you have a .Net Passport Account. If you don't have one, go make one at Xbox.com.
Not sure about still having it on Xbox1 but It may.
Also, not sure about wireless USB but I doubt it. Maybe though.
Yes, the Xbox1 headset works fine excpet you have to contol volume from the options menu.
I would recommend buying a wired first-party 360 controller, just for the PC and 360 use because it is easier and I don't think they work on the PC either.
GRAW and FNR3 are great games so I would recommend them as well but buying some nice "Pick up and Play" games such as DOA4 and Table Tennis are fun as well.
You can never go wrong waiting for Gears of War and Halo 3 too:D

If you want to use the USB on the 360 for wireless, you have to get the official usb wireless adaptor. The official one is the ONLY one suported via USB. However, there are many 3rd party wireless adaptors that plug in to the ethernet port.
Also, the original headset will work but you will lose the puck with the volume control. I'm pretty sure you can adjust this in game. However, the premium console does include a headset.
P.S. Rent Full Auto first as it is really not worth the purchase IMO.
First off get a 1st party 2nd controller, don't worry about buying any games for the time being and get a Gamefly account. Try out all the games you want to and the 360 games will drop in price by the end of the year you will know what games you want and it lets you beat many other games.
Enjoy!
How do these threads come up every week now? All this has already been covered - over and over.

If you don't like them don't read them. Damn anti new thread nazis.

Its not about being a nazi. Its about having common sense and searching through already posted threads to find out answers to any questions you may have. And THEN if you don't solve your problem, you can post a new thread. I don't get why that's such a horrible request to make.

Someone (not it) needs to post a sticky with the answers to all these questions that keep coming up. It will save time for everyone in the long run where the noobs won't have to ask and wait for an answer and the vets won't have to spend time typing up a long-ass reponse. I'm all for helping out the new guys, but there should be some form of FAQ on this by now, considering the amount of questions we've had recently. And I doubt it's going to slow down anytime soon with the 360 becoming more and more available...

I went through the first 3 pages looking for information. Since I didn't see what I needed, I felt justified in putting up a new thread. If you dont wanna read em, dont.
Anyway, to those who didn't threadcrap, thanks for the advice.
Those 3rd party wireless doohickeys, I knew about those but ruled em out for being too much money. Sucks that only the official "rape-you-in-the-wallet" wireless can be usb...3rd party usb ones are pretty cheap. Thanks though.
Gamefly's actually a pretty good idea...problem is I'm not sure if I could keep up with the monthly. I'm out of work, so I can concentrate on my schooling, so I typically only get burst money...whenever I get unlazy and offload more warhammer remnants from my gamestore. Sure would be a good way to boost up my achievement points though :)
Good to hear about the headset...if I ever go on Live with a friend, I'll just make him use the old school one :D
On the controller, it's pretty surprising that the 3rd party one wont work correctly on the PC....should be all the same architechture, right? Oh well.
Oh, that Ninetynine Nights game looks pretty cool...anyone try that? ( Edit: Dont ask people if they've tried a game that's not out yet. I should really look at release dates before I ask things like this. )
Thanks for all the help =)

Man... I hate to say it, but based on your likes I'd recommend staying away from GRAW, FN and Full Auto. I dunno, maybe Full Auto, but GRAW and FN are hard to justify as purchases at the price. Spend a month or two with GameFly - for $25/month you can probably try 10+ games a month (for a couple days at a time, but hey...).
Don't get me wrong, all three are good games, but the price per hour for entertainment with a lot of the current games just doesn't work out. Just, seriously consider renting instead of getting these $60 games, especially the three you named.
Xbox Live Arcade has a lot of gems - in addition to GeoWars and Uno, take a look into Wik (especially as a game designer) and Outpost Kaloki.

I just got Fight Night Round 3 in the mail from Gamefly on Friday and beat the main "career" mode overnight (and somehow getting all 1000 achievement points). Pretty fun and fast paced game with the total punch control, but can't be justified with a $60 price tag.

I think there should be a "PLAY THE DAMN DEMOS" thread made and stickied. Or at least make a new thread with that title each week...

Oh yeah, I forgot that you could get a Gamefly card for 23 bucks... I'm totally gonna have to do that. I'll hold off on FNR3 and just pick up GRAW for now. (Especially with it being that freaking short) There's simply no way that I'm gonna invest in a 400 dollar shiny box and not get a game to put in it.
Xecutioner, I would, if I had yon shiny box already. Like I said, I dont have a 360 yet, and none of my friends do either.
Once again, thanks for all the help.

If you can wait, I would as far as the wired controller goes.
Microsoft is coming out with an adaptor this year so that you can use your wireless controllers on your PC.
