What you do is go to www.freecomicbookday.com. Put in your zip code. Then a store near you will show up that is doing the deal. You have to go to the store on July 3rd.

Wait, so you just go to one of the participating stores on July 3rd and you get a free comic book? Thant is cool. How bad are the comic books though?

They are usually not that bad. In the past they've reprinted first issues of some series and gave them out. Last year they gave out a reprint of Ultimate Spiderman or Ultimate X-men (i can't remember which one).

It's been going on since the day after the first X-Men movie came out. Some places offer some duds but for the most part I come away with some cool schwag. Last year I got some limited edition Hulk Heroclixs and X-Men comics. Year before I got Matrix comics. Some places limit it to 1 comic though. Just take a non comic fan friend with you and have them get the other(s) you want  .....

I'm hoping that the store I go to will have some left when I go, since the last few years they've gave out some pretty crappy comics(although Ultimate Spider-Man and X-Men weren't that bad).

Heh, funny to see Archie participating this year. I missed last year, but it was good getting Ultimate Spidey. Too bad Spider-Man doesn't even appear in that issue.

would it be wrong to go to every store near me and bringing like 5 non-comic fans with me?

rimsforsale -

The whole point of Free Comic Book Day is to get non-fans involved. Get them to start reading this great medium, and the day's a success.

I hope no one tries to get a bunch of these books as "investments" because they're fairly worthless on the secondary market.

Also, since they're free, I strongly suggest people try a free book from a non-"Big Two" company, like Oni Press.

They are special comics printed solely for free comic book day, they are trying to spark interest in the medium.

Stright from the Horses (asses) Mouth (me):

Free comic bok day is a day where pretty much every major and minor Comic book company will have at least one comic specially made and available for FREE.
Highlights this year (so far):
Marvel - Marvel Age Spider-man
Disney - Mickey Mouse
DC - Teen Titans Go! (fun comic)
Archie
Dark Horse - Star Wars Clone Wars (cartoon network)
IDW - CSI/24/The Sheild/30 days of night sampler
DW - Duel Masters Sampler
Image- sampler

and there will even more, including Tokyo Pop.

My store will be part of this, and apparently we will be up at Gameworks at Great Lakes Crossing next Friday promoting this and Spider-Man 2.

any other questions feel free to ask, im at work so it will be a while before a response.

I still like comics but they are not as fun as they used to be and far to expensive. I think about a year after the death of superman is when i stopped. I Was reading shadow of the Bat 13 or so. Excellently written book or at least it was then. Not sure now. I love comics but i guess my investment has to be worth something to me.

I'll spend 30- 40 on a game and play it for like 60-80 hours and still trade it for half of what i payed most of the time. A comic book is what 3 or more dollars now and I would read it in 5 mins with minimal fulfilment and then its not worth 10 cents.

I guess I was part of the fall of comics. I spent hundred of dollars and my collection had a value of 1000-1500 dollars in overstreet / Wizard conservatively and hotly wanted titles at the time such as many image titles, Valient's, xmens, Death of Superman and the like and when I tried several different stores they were like 10 for death of superman (valued at 45 typically at the time) and not even 20 dollars for everything else (many many mint and near mint issues of hot titles of the time).

Oh well maybe some day they will make a come back but 3-5 dollars an issues umm isn't the way IMHO.

Bah maybe I am just full of guff.

Then buy the Trades/Graphic novels. Its cheaper and sometimes you get extra. Hell, Kingdom Come is only 14.95 for a thick TPB and a great story. The Watchmen isnt much more.

I understand 2.25 is a bit much for some paper, but that is what inflation and the near destruction of an industry. Hell, Marvel just got out of debt yesterday after years of being in the red. Hopefully they start lowering the price of comics or at least adding more to them.

I agree with W. I highly suggest Manga trades. Most of them are $9.99 and fairly dense with reading.

I agree that the cost does seem high at times, but comics provide an artistic experience that can't really be duplicated anywhere else.

And if you like Image/Sirius/Crossgen:Boobies

I think Hotters and us are using the same marketing plan...

You must not have seen Marvel's solicitations for September yet then....

I meant stuff like 5 MK2099 books, 17 #1's total, a new Adam Warlock series (or mini. Who knows with their fine PR people), a new Elektra mini, a Bullseye mini, NYX resolicited again, etc. It's 1994 all over again.

They do have two new Marvel Age books at $1.75 which surprised me though.

By september there will be 27 X-titles alone. I hate to say it but i think marvel is going down hill again.
