View Full Version : Paypal payment reversed-- what to do...

The situation: a payment someone made last night was reversed. They have 0 ebay feedback, an unconfirmed address and are in Canada. I'm not sure how it got reversed, if it was by the buyer or not-- it says under reason "to recover a negative balance." I'm sending the guy a note to ask what's up, but I'm curious about how sketchy this is and if I should go through with the auction.

I wouldn't go through with it personally. It can't get worse than that. 0 feedback is understandable -- they could be starting out. Unconfirmed addresses can end up being a pain though. And they're in Canada so you have to deal with customs and a Canadian. Just too much of a hassle.

its sounds like he bounced the transfer or had spent more than he/she had..

should I give him another chance to pay? or just cancel and hope he doesn't leave a negative...I'm not too hopeful about a future transaction for some reason.

If they're unconfirmed your forfeit all protection. File a non payment strike and relist.

edit: screw it, sent in an unpad thing. he better agree to it (don't wanna mess around with waiting and hoping he doesn't do another chargeback...)

I just got a chargeback myself today - from a guy who bought two games on 14th and i sent them out and he received them 17th according to my DC number. Since im covered under the 'Seller Protection' Policy' hopefully ill get my money back shortly...

Why did he charge them back? Because he said he didn't receive them? If you sent it to a confirmed address, and the DC shows it was delivered (which it was), you're in the clear.

I once had a guy tell me he didn't receive his games... I told him the DC said it was delivered, so maybe he should ask the people who live at his place what happened.

Next day he leaves me a positive feedback, saying the games are great and I'm a great seller  I never did find out if he was just trying to scam me, or someone misplaced them, I never heard from him again.

"We were recently notified that one of your buyers used an account that has been associated with possible unauthorized use."

I emailed some other people who he buyed from recently and waiting to see if they got hit as well. He also has 600 (9 negs, 2 within past month, 3 over 12) feedback so it isnt a new eBayer.

so if they don't respond to a dispute within a week, it automatically goes in my favor, right?

well, the guy went with it and backed out. Yay! the system works (sometimes)!

Sorry to hear that Pooky-- there's no way you can get your cash back?

i would call paypal and ask about that. I got screwed over buy someone selling a 1 year membership to blockbuster online. i was covered under ebay buyer protection BUT they took 25 bucks.

They said when the person gets money in their account , they have to give paypal premission to get my money back , they can not go into their account and get my money back so its up to the seller if they want to refund the money or not (even though the seller lost the dispute)

Total BS

Its still "under review" - its $70 total, happened to have $30 in there left to cover shipping charges I expected to do today.
I should get it back, according to their rules I did everything right.

Well - i'm somewhat impressed in the response time. I got the money back for the one game.
I think i need to respond twice to the notices since it was two transactions. Even though if they looked at my account they'd see they are both from the same buyer and shipped in same package...guess i can't complain if i get the second half back tomorrow.

*edit* got second half tonight. Bravo.

Yeah but you didn't give him a Strike which he deserved to get for being a non-payer; disappointing.

You can't give a Strikeif you chose the "mutually agree not to complete transaction" option.

Too late.

well, now he has -1 feedback, which is just as good-- he can't bid on anyone's auctions.

isn't there an option that blocks bidders with feedback below zero? everyone should have that turned on.

Yup. They should also add a option for minimum feedback percentage that you will sell too, like no one under 90%, etc

Yes but many sellers don't turn it on (or like me set the block to -2) so the previous statement "He can no longer bid because he has -1" is not an accurate statement. There are many auctions where he can still bid.

Biddrs can continue bidding even as low as -5 and 2 strikes. Only banning would stop them completely.

What I was telling you before is you should have given a non-paying STRIKE through the non-paying dispute console. You failed to do that. Disappointing.

Funny! :-) You can send all the poo or red-colored negatives in the world. The bad buyer will still be there screwing up other people's auctions.

The only was to BAN the sucker is through handing out those non-payng Strikes.

However, this is all fruitless. How hard is it to create a new eBay account?

I don't know; don't you need a credit card and proof of identity? Does not seem easy to create a fake profile if you've already been banned.
