Has anyone noticed the touch screen display of the New Super Mario Bros DS game is different on the gamestop website?

Thank you! I've been meaning to post this because I too saw the multiple touch items and was like "???"
The only thing I can think of.. and.. sadly it's probably true is that this was a very OLD picture from whe NSMB was in beta. If you looked at pics before, there were some pics with Mario & Luigi on screen like.. swimming and made it look like it was co-op. I believe it WAS supposed to be co-op..but..took it out for who knows why.
But back to that screen shot.. I see the 3 slots are for items. The top is the tracker of where you are in the level. In the middle I can't make out what the two ends are. I can see that the 360 means the timer..but can't make out the other 2. Does the first thing say 9?? And the other end say 4???

On the far left is the # of coins

Ah, You have to beat every level in the game with a certain time. You have to end each level on a "3"at the end. So time would be xx3. Thats how you unlock the extra 2 slots.

Ok, but that's the 4 on the other side then!

I'm pretty sure it says 'SCORE' on the right hand side. It might be 400... maybe 1100... but the the stylus is blocking it. It's possible they changed the points on what you get for things... or its just one of those developer's screenshots which usually have things like scores and stuff set to a certain value.

That's just an early screenshot from the unfinished version of the game. I remember seeing that in early screenshots. It was taken out for whatever reason and there's no "unlocking" of it.

Yeah, pictures in adds tend to be from promo screens released well before the game was finished.
They probably just decided against three item slots since the game was already fairly easy.

With the game's saving system, I kinda wish they would've added the two additional slots and just eliminated collecting the big coins just to have access to the toad houses.

I don't mean to thread crap, but there is one thing that confuses me about NSMB so far -
I am a completist and I DO NOT use guides and I can't figure out HOW I will know if I have completed/collected everything. Is it just the 3 star coins on all the levels you can see?

On your file you will have 3 stars if you completed EVERYTHING (This includes even going into every toad house and warp pipe). Also getting all coins and spending them all as well as obviously beating the game itself.

So I'll see 3 stars on my file before starting the game up similar to the star you get in Super Mario World SNES after getting all exits?
(Thanks for the help)

Yeah like "FILE 1 World 8 ***"
(of course obviously "World 8" represents wherever the last world you saved in lol)

NSMB would be so much better if they made you collect 20 hidden red coins and 5 big golden coins in every level kind of like Yoshi's Island. There's just not that much incentive to keep replaying the levels and a lot of them I was able to get all three big coins on the first play through...

You're supposed to replay it on a whim, like the NES Mario Bros titles.
It was made to be a playground you come back to because you love being there. You enjoy the rides and the world while you are there for a few minutes.
Must everything have an "incentive"? Is it not possible to play a game merely because you enjoy it? Or even simply trying to achieve a higher score?
You can play Donkey Kong 64 if you like to collect trinkets. It'll last you awhile.
I would've liked NSMB better if there was nothing to collect and they eliminated the overworld map. It is aggravating to fall into a pit and get booted out of the level only to waste 5 seconds jumping back into it.

There are way too many games that I have to skip because there isn't enough time to play them all - I certainly don't want to waste time just jumping around in NSMB with no purpose just because it's fun (which it definitely is). Adding incentives increases replayability - no one says you have to collect everything but having the option there is nice for people who really like the "playground." As for getting a high score, maybe it's just me but games like this don't really seem to lend themselves to competing for a high score. That's what arcadey titles are for...
Also, DK64 was awful - not because of all the collecting but because the levels were boring and the characters were lame. If it had been set in the Mario universe I probably would have played long enough to find everything...

There really seems to be only two real changes from beta to final.
One is the three item holder. It kind of makes sense, now that I think about it. The way the game is now, I thought it was a poor design to have to touch the screen with your greasy finger or find a safe spot where you can whip out your stylus just to get your single boxed item. Why didn't they just map it to an unused button like X or Y. If there were three, it would be harder to do, and harder to keep track of. So they cut it down to one item box but kept the clunky interface. I also agree three item boxes makes an already easy game too easy, but put the item button to select or something like SMW.
The second major change is that the beta obviously has all data on the touch screen and only the gameplay on the top screen. The final version we have has the coin counter and clock on top.
I agree with Pijaibros. I hate the collection aspect of NSMB or the redone versions of SMW on GBA. I just want to get to the ending of a level or find the secret exit. Those feel like more accomplished goals then sniffing out some hidden coin.

I see both sides. I like the way Nintendo has done the collecting of hidden items in the GB versions of the SMB games. But...
I really hate games where you don't get the "real ending" or sense of accomplishment unless you do/find/pick up EVERY SINGLE turd secret the programmers crapped into the game. It takes all the fun out the game when I'm constantly wondering if I passed something up and 10 hours later will wish I had been even MORE nit-picky about my searching. And if I'm going to use a strat guide to make sure I don't miss anything, why am I playing the game? I've already seen the whole game in the guide. No fun. No fun. No fun.
To Javeryh's point - there are lots of great games I now pass on, because I just don't have the time to drudge through a 40-hour game in 80 hours for fear of missing something and having a hollow finish when I "beat" the game. Much as I loved the game - LOVED it, this was my biggest complaint about Suikoden I & II. In part 1, I painstakingly crawled through it to make sure I didn't miss anything. Then, when I had about 98% of the game completed, I saved in a location where I didn't realize actions I took 5 minutes prior had made the loss of one of my precious 108 stars inevitable. Got the "second-best" ending for Suikoden I, and even more maddening - I had no choice but to play through the "second-best" route for Suikoden II (since failing to finish part I with all 108 Stars eliminates one of the best and coolest features of part II - getting your original character to join your party at the end).
I love collecting when it doesn't affect the "true-completion" of the game
I hate collecting the way most companies do it.

I wish they didn't take away the co-op mode :(
(or what it seemed like at least)
