If this has been asked before, please lock and/or delete.

Do I have to use component cables? As all I have to use at the moment is s-video. I have the settings on my system set to 16x9 and I change it to the correct settings in the game; and still nothing. And yes, I know not all games have 16x9 output. I have a few of the games listed on www.hdtvarcade.com (http://www.hdtvarcade.com) and I still can't get it. I have googled and can't find anything. Maybe I am just that stupid...

Well to get 16x9 you usually don't need components, it's just an in game option. As for 480p, you do have to have the component cables. Some games have in game options for this, while others usually make you hold down X and triangle when you are loading or some other button combo.

I'm aware that I'll need component for progressive scan. For example, I tried using Soul Caliber II and couldn't get nothing but 4x3. Unless I need to put the system option to "full".

Hmm, I'm not sure then. There is a 16x9 setting in the PS2 browser but I never thought it really did anything.

1) I'm going to assume you meant SCIII
2) Is this the only game you tried? I kind of remember hearing SCIII had some problems with widescreen, but I may be imagining things.

I don't remember SCII being widescreen. SCIII def is. If I remeber correctly it was in the option menu.

Here is a database of games that are 16x9:

Ok your right SCII does have progressive scan mode. It says to hold X and triangle and it will ask if you want to turn it on.

For progressive scan mode, I'd need to get component cables. Thats not what I was asking about though

Just tried God of War which is listed as being about to output 16x9 and still nothing. I'm guessing that I am going to need to get some component cables.

Yeah I think you need the compenent for 16X9. Some games require you to play them in progressive scan and that also puts the game in 16X9.
