I don't know what happened. I understand that I would lose all my friends and friend codes because of switching over to the DSLite (I traded mine in..so.. I never had the time to transfer. Which is ok!)
But one morning I woke up to play and .. I had no game. LOL I was curious and the first thing I did was check my WFC record and it was all 0. And everything: All characters and trophies (Though I only Beat 50 and 100 which is easy) were gone. I don't know HOW it happened.. I bought it NEW many months ago (January!)
So yeah.. anyone know why? Ive been playing for a few days and had no problem (nor had problems for the past 6 months lol)
But regardless. I need friends now. Please add me and give me your info?? And I don't like to race with people who snake.. thanks :)
hope to race some of you soon!

The only explanation I can think of is you accidentally shut off or maybe put your DS in sleep mode when it was saving.
I don't think Mario Kart even has an option to delete data, does it?

You know, the strangest thing happened to me.
I lost all my Mario64 data while changing out the battery one time (no it wasnt ON at the time). When I booted up all the data was gone and it said "File corrupt" and deleted it. I was so pissed.
4 days later I went to play it again and start over.... and it was all back.
I still wonder what the hell happened.

Regardless of if you can erase the file.. my whole cartridge was deleted :( it was very upsetting.
Though this is the only game I had problems with. Today I got nervous too (AGAIN with Mario Kart.. :\ ) because when I turned it on.. touched Mario Kart..a black screen said "Cannot read file" or SOMETHING like that (Cannot read game maybe) Has anyone else gotten SOMETHIN similar to that. Yes, the game WAS in the slot.. LOL
::nervous::

I'm not sure if this is the correct answer, but I know that when saving data the DS Lite & Mario Kart are taken as one WHOLE entity. Meaning that it won't work if one of the two pieces are missing. Since you traded your DS before you got your DS LITE and did not have time to transfer all your data; being that you're using your new DS LITE with the same Mario Kart cartridge means it's an entire NEW entity. As a result, I guess the LITE sees the Mario Kart as a new game because it was on another DS; and vice versa.
I don't know if this made sense, but I hope it gets you closer to your answer.

It sounds like her save game info was fine for a while with her new DS Lite - it vanished after some time.
I don't have that game, but with Metroid everything is separate. I did an exhange on my DS Lite today due to a problem. With my new one, when I tried to play on-line with Metroid, it said the on-line info. would have to be erased since I was using a different DS, but, it would save my single player information. Everything looks good.
I'm quite sure the reason they do this is so someone who buys a used game can't get access to any personal information/other peoples' friends lists.

All DS games that have a WiFi component are the same in this regard. Multiplayer settings are kept separate from single player.
There are some single player games though that warn you about switching the game card to a different DS system (Nintendogs comes to mind) but no games should delete actual save data. I have Mario Kart and never transfered any data over and have had no problems with it whatsoever. I wonder how long the warranty is on Nintendo DS games.
