I put an offer down a Neo geo arcade cabinent today that came with 7 games for $200 (guy wanted $400). Is this a decent offer. Should I bid more/less. I've read people get these for cheap, so I dont know how much is a good offer.
If he sells it to me, does the MVS Neo Geo have the ability to play the other kind of Neo Geo games (AVS?)?
Games are
Fatal Fury
Art of Fighting
Soccer
Baseball
Samurai Showdown
World Heros
World Heros 2
Not the greatest selection, I intially confused the games, but Samurai Shodown 1 definitely helps sell it.

That's a decent offer I'd imagine... I've got an MVS machine too, but mine is called a PS2 ;)

The other NG format is AES and I can't imagine why you'd want to buy those if you have an MVS arcade system. AES games are way way way way way (x100) more expensive than MVS games and you're not missing out on anything if you get an MVS... I've gotta say though, those games included are kinda crappy.
I'm with Roufuss in that my MVS is called a Playstation 2.

In all honesty I just say to mod or get a slide card for your PS2, because it seems all of SNK's best games are compliations that are either out now, or coming out soon, and they are all arcade perfect (cept for Last Blade).
I mean, if you want the arcade experience, go for it, but if you just want to play the games, look at the options.

I am really confused by this statement. Do you mean you emulate it or that every Neo-Geo game ever made is available on the PS2 (which is horribly wrong, even with all the collections coming out)? And while the games included might be crappy by today's standards, they're still fundamental to a Neo-Geo collection.

Pretty much every good game is available on the PS2 or is coming in the near future. If you're not into crappy games or being a completionist, then it's more than sufficient to get the PS2 compilations instead.

My Xbox is a great Neo Geo machine too...

Exactly... I can't think of something, at this point, I'd ONLY be able to get on a Neo Geo that would be worth having one for. The only games I can think of are:
Magician Lord
Sengoku series
Rage of the Dragons
Waku Waku 7 (but this is also on Saturn)
Ninja Masters
Matrimelee
And they will probably come to a compliation soon anyways and aren't really worth tracking down a Neo Geo for (imo...). I mean, if Kizuna Encounter / Savage Reign is getting a compliation, anything is possible.

I'm mostly speaking about non-SNK games, like Rage of the Dragons and Magical Drop III.

From what I recall, Rage of the Dragons wasn't that great to begin with and Magical Drop 3 is on the Sega Saturn. Neo Geo is one of those machines that is slowly becoming obsolete as everything worthwhile is getting ported, just imo though since I know alot of people will disagree.
I guess, for the OP, honestly now that I'm thinking about it I wouldn't pay more then $200 unless you really really want an actual arcade machine.

Seems like a fair price. There's just something about playing games in a huge arcade cabinet. I can't figure out what it is, but it just feels better.

yeah, I agree with Roufuss (I was about to AIM you but you responded here), I just want a Neo Geo, like the classic fighting games and I really want an arcade cabinent. This is something I would put in the common area of my fraternity's house too, not to donate it, but just to enhance waht there is to do there.

Oh, then if it's going in a place where it'll get a ton of play time (which I imagine it will, at a fraternity) then it changes the scope of things... yea, if a ton of people are going to be rocking it I say go for it.

Is it a converted cabinet or an original? How many slots?
As far as the games go, they're some of the less valuable MVS carts.

Depends if its a 4 slot MVS machine. If its only a 1 or 2 slot its going to be a beotch to switch between them

Ah -- well that's reasonable then. I guess if you really liked the non-SNK games then it'd make sense to get a NG, but for popular SNK Games like Fatal Fury, the PS2's just more practical.

Still no answer from the guy yet, I wonder if he already sold it.

If it's a 4 slot, $400 is a good price. Depends on condition as well.
I have 2 arcade machines myself and I'd have to agree, there is a certain feeling to playin on a machine opposed to your couch and TV.

i say listen to roufuss... I've played alot of the NG PS2 ports and all are pretty damn cose to arcade perfect. Plus, SNK is already planning to do many more NeoGeo collections.

But like many have said, that could be an argument if he was talking AES. MVS usually gives the player a totally different feel. Standing up and being face level with the screen along with the stick gives most people a better feel than playing it on the couch in your living room with a PS2 pad.

But as a money making venture its definately worth it.

Theres no Technos Dodge Ball on PS2 yet...
I have all the NeoGeo ports for PS2 and Xbox and I still want a standup MVS cabinet. If you get it for $200 that would be spectacular. Depending on the condition of the unit, even $400 is a bargain.
you need to run, not walk, and get a copy of Mark of the Wolves
