Reservoir Dogs game banned in Australia
Eidos' interactive take on Quentin Tarantino's classic crime caper film is refused classification.

The developers at Blitz Games, creators of Eidos' upcoming game adaptation of Quentin Tarantino's cult classic Reservoir Dogs, have said that it's possible for players to make it through the entire game without killing a single person.

It seems Australia's Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) chose not to play the game that way, as last Friday it refused to classify the game with a rating, effectively banning it in the country. The Web site of Australian tech magazine APC reports that Atari Australia, the distributor of the game down under, has decided to scrap the project rather than try resubmitting it with edits.

Earlier this year, the OFLC reassessed its previous classification of Atari's graffiti-inspired game Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure. Last November the game was given an MA 15+ classification, meaning it was not suitable for people under 15 due to strong violence and strong themes. However, two days before the game was scheduled to go on sale, the classification was revoked and the game was banned, with the OFLC giving as reason for the banning that the game promoted the crime of graffiti.

Reservoir Dogs has now joined a less-than-exclusive club. Titles like BMX XXX, Manhunt, Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude, Postal, Postal 2, 50 Cent: Bulletproof, Narc, The Punisher, The Getaway, Phantasmagoria, and the Roberta Williams Anthology (the American version of which featured a one-chapter preview of Phantasmagoria) have also been refused classification and banned in the country, although some of them (like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and BMX XXX) have later been granted ratings.

Yea, it seems other than GTA and the Punisher, Australia is just banning shitty games, and that's something I support.

I know that is sarcasm, but it is a common fallacy people commit. Banning even just one game/film/book/song/etc can have nasty consequences for the future. It always starts somewhere.

damn...

I read it in 7th grade .... too young to apperciate it I guess, I did learn a few thigns about it though and sadly, I do see some of the events that occured in the book currently going down. For example, religious figures were used for advertising products in the book, and now-a-days, we have CD's for kids that are named "Worship Jams"... what a gimmick.

ah, yeah, forced reading ruins every good book.

so many friends i know hate To Kill A Mockingbird because they had to read it in school - but if you go back and read it, it is really fucking good.

still hate Lord of the Flies though...

so racist - my friend worked there and said that he wanted to try kangaroo (yah know, to eat) and the locals were like "what? that's black meat, for the darkies."

so fuck'em.

I loved Fahrenheit 451. It wasn't forced reading, though. I finished it in a few hours. My sister let me borrow it after she was forced to read it.

But anyway, back on topic, that sucks for those of you down under.

At first I thought that movies like Equilibrium were retarded, unoriginal, and redundant after great literature like Fahrenheit 451 and 1984. However, this makes me feel like perhaps we need those modern versions of the story to appeal to you ADD kids.

Did you know that some schools banned Farenheit 451?
Like, did they not see any irony in that?

Hahahahaha, quote of the day!

Why did they ban the video game? What was the exact reasoning? As a person who grew up in Soviet Russia, not only do I hate most forms of cencorship, but I also hate "IN SOVIET RUSSIA" jokes, because most of you assholes don't understand them, and think that in Soviet Russia you flip the noun and the subject.

Do they ban bukkake videos in Australia?

Makes me glad I don't live down under. Speaking of forced reading...you've no idea what hell is untill you're forced to read Great Expectations. My 9th grade English teacher has scared me for life towards Dickinson.

Wait a second...you don't like Australia because they're racist?

And you're basing this on the fact that some locals are racists? I wonder what Australians call people that base their opinion of an entire nation of people based on one instance.

I bet they have some cutesy name for it. They're silly like that. Like Crocodile Dundee...they all talk funny.

I grew up in Australia, they have cookies called Golliwogs that are chocolate, if you want to know what it refers to heres the wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gollywog

Most of them also aren't fans of Asians, Aboriginies, and Irish.

But what do you expect from a British colony that didn't know enough to revolt (no offense Canada  )

Games in this country get hit pretty hard by the older generations. But at least they havent't went so far as banning every game that has a side boob or a touch of blood like the Aussies.

No doubt the Reservoir Dogs game will be awful. But the commercials are golden:
