What do Gitarooman, Shadow Hearts, and Rez have in common? These games sold very poorly when they initially released and then faded away. All of a sudden, since the gaming populace has this whole COLLECT EVERYTHING SUPER RAREZ attitude, each has seen a rerelease of some sort. I saw at least 15 new copies of GM at Fry's for $39, Shadow Hearts 1 goes used for $35, and Rez is back at $40. Do you feel that the prices are justified or should the prices be adjusted (time wise) to a more reasonable range so that the games would actually sell? Why repeat hitory again? :-P

You said it yourself... they are super rare, so when they pop back onto the market, people will snatch them up regardless of the price.
In theory. It dosen't seem to work that way, because GQD floods the market and Gamestop prices so highly nobody cares.
I don't buy games for collector purposes, so I don't know what the market values are, but those prices don't seem that bad to me (not that I'd buy any of 'em now, though).
If games don't get the kind of marketing or distribution they deserve, it's nice to know that word of mouth can spark a revival of sorts, particularly if the game is good, but just didn't get the right "push".

One of the reasons a lot of my friends haven't bought any of those games is simply because they won't spend that much on titles that have very little bang for their buck. Sure, the games are enjoyable and all but after one or two playthroughs that's about it. If the MSRPs were lower they would have had a lot more interest, especially since most would have gladly tossed $20 for those titles without a second thought.
But what can you do? It's nice to see revivals but I really wonder about whether or not some games would do far better if they were simply released with a more reasonable price point to start. I had no problem dropping $20 on Katamari when it first came out and that was about as niche a title as they come. If it debuted at $40 or $50 I would have left that to rot on the shelf until I heard otherwise...and then I would have borrowed it, beaten it, and not spent a penny.

I thought Shadow hearts sold reasonable since it was very well received with critics and it got one more sequel and a third one not relating to the other 2. IMO shadow hearts its a great game .

I don't like rare games.
Because I hate people who invade a hobby with only a interest in making money. I use to collect action figures but to many people with no interest in them would buy them and try to resale them at a profit. So I quit collecting. The same thing almost destroyed the comic book industry in 1993.
I wish they would flood the market with Marvel vs Capcom 2's, Panzer Dragoon Saga and the like. It's software and meant to be played.
Plus I like to see people able to enjoy games they might have missed.
I don't collect games to make money. I play games to have fun.
