View Full Version : Any news on a possible near-future drop in price for a ps2?

I'm looking to buy one, preferably this summer so I actually have time to use it before university starts again, but I don't want to waste my money if there is going to soon be a price drop. So any news? And if so, could you tell me when approximately and what the new price will be? Cause if I only save like 20 bucks, I'll just get it now. If I save like...50, I'll think about it....depending on how long till the drop.

Well, it just dropped at the beginning of the summer from $150 to $130. I wouldn't expect another drop until PS3 comes out in November.

Don't expect another price drop until Christmas or E3 2007 comes around.

when was the last time a system dropped around xmas (besides dreamcast)
far as i can remember all price drops been around E3

Alright I think I'll go for it then. I'm thinking maybe 2 cheap games...I'd like to try KH1, maybe Final Fantasy X, and some action/adventure/platformer game. Which games would you suggest for a new PS2 owner?
Oh actually come to think of it I think PS2 has free online right?! I'd love a good online game, shooter, racer, whatever. Which game is the most fun online? I really like COD2 and MOHAA for the PC if that helps...

Killzone is fun online. The online community is great and the developers are paying attention to it and trying to make it better (they always post on the playstation.com forums).
Action/Adventure games I would recommend are MGS3: Subsistence, Devil May Cry 1/3, Ratchet & Clank, Jak series, and the Onimusha series.

Sweet battlefield 2 for the ps2?! Didnt know about that. How about socom is that any good? It looks pretty fun, is easy to find, and pretty cheap...

The cheapest one i can find is the refurbished ps2 for 99.99, then get the replacement plan for 10, then just return it and say its getting disc read errors and get a brand new one for 109.99

Can you really do that? I just bought a refurbished one with the same plan from EB...has anyone actually tried to do this?
BTW, they stuck some cheap ass 3rd-party controller in the package. Ugh, now I have to buy one.

LOL they tried the same to me and made it sound like it was MUCH better than the orignial ps2 controller...but i told them no thanx i want the original one. The lady told me to buy the replacement plan and if ANYTHING goes wrong with it just bring it back to be replaced NO QUESTIONS ASKED...hell only 10 bucks i said what the hell ill take it. I don't plan on taking it back for a new one until a few months from now... might as well use this one till it really breaks as theres nothing wrong with it and it doesnt even look used. Might flip the new unopen one on ebay if i do decid to keep a ps3.

i recommend ebay. however, search for an auction that does not accept paypal and email the guy and try to make a deal/end early.
i got my ps2 doing this, the guy had 5 feedback, did not accept paypal; i mailed him some cash, he shipped, i mailed him the remainder. just email a lot back and forth to make sure the seller is not shady before you commit.
