I got an e-mail from Midway titled "Midway Arcade Treasures Survey" on Friday and just got around to opening it today. It basically asks which of these games you'd like to see on Next Generation consoles and lists these games which choices ranging from strongly agree to strongly disagree:
Smash TV
Robotron 2084
Defender
Gauntlet
Cyberball 2072
Paperboy
Joust
Root Beer Tapper
and a section to type in your own suggestions.
I'm not sure if this will be for a next-gen installment of the series or what, but I thought it was an interesting piece of possible news. What do you guys think?

...So everything that is and will most likely be on XBLA?

Yeah I also got the e-mail as well. Not impressed with the line up of games so far.

I'd be rather pointless to have it on next-gen consoles. It could be in the XBLA for 360, and with the other two it'd be playable on the next-gen consoles through backwards compatibility if it was released for their current-gen counterparts.

Not everyone has XBL. That's why this (http://www1.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/arcadeunpluggedvol1/news.html?sid=6153184) is in the works.

They could put all there games on one DVD. Yet they still continue to only put 10-20 games on one disc. How many times are people going to buy theses things? It's not like the new systems make these games any better.
And we all know where to get TRUE arcade conversions of these games.

My EXACT thoughts!

Sounds more like they're looking at what remakes they should do.
All of the GameCube Midway Arcade Treasures should run as is on the Wii.
Many of the titles are already on XBLA and the MAT series will likely be on the BC list eventually.
Trying to do something really new, like make Joust work from a first person perspective, is more likely for any new investment.
I look forward to Paperboy: Blood Avenger.
Sony is promising PS3 will run the PS2 and PS1 stuff, so there's two generations of Midway collections there.
Unless there are improvements to be implemented or a higher value package to be offered, like the NAMCO Anniversary Collection compared to the earlier Museum, there may never be native MATs on the next generation machines. Why bother when the existing stuff is still cluttering retail shelves and can be reordered any time the need arises.
So any new investment would likely be for new games based on old properties, like another attempt at Joust as an FPS-style game.
I look forward to Paperboy: Blood Vengeance.
