I'm in the mood to play a platformer/action game. I've already got Psychonauts, God of War and Devil May Cry 3 SE. The Prince of Persia games look interesting and I'm thinking about picking up all three games in a hit. From reading some reviews, the games have gotten pretty decent scores. I guess my question would be is if they are worth buying? How did you guys like the series?

they are all great. However most people doesnt like the jump to a more mature mode after the first game.

They're probably the best platforming games ever made. I just didn't like the second one at all. It focused too much on combat when no one plays a PoP game for the combat. You play it for the excellent acrobatics. Also they tried to make it all "extreme." Added swearing, blood, and really bad butt rock Luckily the 3rd game returns to its roots, and is just as good as the first. I like to pretend the second game doesn't exist. So if you can't get the second game, you're not missing anything.

I'd actually defend the second game. Sure the music, writing, and badittude all suck ass, but in terms of core gameplay I thought it was a bit superior to the first. The platforming was more complex and grandiose, I liked the visual look of it more (especially the garden and the skylines), and while there is technically more combat, you can skip most of it by running past enemies or throwing them over ledges. In fact, I'd actually say I spent less time fighting in Warrior Within than the first game because of that.

It's a less polished game for sure, but in terms of just plain being fun I thought it was at least as good as the first.

Exactly. Alot of people disliked the second game because of the 'dark' direction the game took, but in the PoP series it's all about the gameplay. SoT had excellent platforming, but for me, was really lacking in the combat department. WW kept the superb platforming (quite possibly even exceeding the first) and added the combat that SoT was lacking.

I really enjoyed WW's story while it disappointed most others. I really need to get around to playing TTT; I've owned it since December. I wish it would become compatible for the 360.

I just got TTT at Best Buy... while I've played through Sands of Time, I never played WW.

Should I play through them all in order to get the most value?

Yeah, you probably should, its not like Warrior Within is that expensive to get anyways, and in fact is the best one in the series IMO even though a lot of people will disagree with me.

Oh, it's not cost I'm worried about, I'd just have to wait to get them off Ebay (as Gamestop wants unrealistic prices on their used copies of Sands of Time and WW) and I'm jonesing to play TTT now ;)

The first prince of persia is a great game. After the success of the first one I imagine the developers had a meeting to plan the second game. The meeting probably went something like this:

"We received a lot of critical acclaim for our first game, unfortunately no one bought it. So gentlemen I ask you what are the kids in to these days?"

"Well they like those grand theft auto games, blood and violence are the coolest!"

"They like heavy metal!"

"They also like to smoke pot!"

"Good, good. Now if we incorporate those things into Prince of Persia 2 we should sell in the millions!!!"

Unfortunately the new clunky fighting system and the inclusion of godsmack killed the game. Avoid Prince of Persia Warrior Within at all costs.

Well, it's on clearance at Target right now if your local store has any copies of it. Might be worth checking before you resort to the 'bay. ;)

EDIT: it = PoP:WW

Yea, I saw some, they were $13.98, I can get around the same price after shipping (WW will be $15 with tax at Target).

Thanks for advice guys. I'm going to pick these up this weekend. I might also pick up Shadow of Rome. I've been curious about the game ever since Cheapy talked about it on the CAG Cast.

Just remember you can do alot better if you don't go through EB / GS.

I mean, $14.99 for a used Sands of Time? $17.99 for a used Warrior Within? Those are some shitty prices.

Where are the cheapest places to pick up these games B&M? I already know about the BB POP: TT deal but I would to know the cheapest place to pick up the other two.

B&M... I guess you're screwed into paying EB / GS's ripoff prices.

Argyle mentioned Warrior Within is on clearance at Targets... I've seen it a few times around me, it can go anywhere from $9.98 - $13.98 for a brand new copy.

The first game had a charm that Warrior Within lacked IMO. Warrior Within did have better combat though. I just thought the atmosphere in Sands of Time was perfect. Sands of Time stands as one of the most memorable gaming experiences I have had this generation with only God of War and Ninja Gaiden besting it.
