I found myself enjoying that show last night.

I thought all the guys sucked though. There were 3 girls I thought did well: The 1st one who sang the Who's Pinball Wizard, The scary chick who sang Nirvana and the chick who sang the Melissa Etheridge song.

Yeah, it's Rockstar, what's up with them trying Coldplay and other crap right outta the gate? You gotta come to rock. Seriously.

Personally I'd have done "Freak of the Week", it fits, and Butch woulda got a kick out of it if nothing else.

"What to do when they're all lookin' at you, 'cause you're the freak of the week, 'cause you're on the T.V."

No, but seriously, I'd have done "Rebel Rebel" or "I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down" or something to that effect.

I agree. I liked Pinball Wizard but overall the choices were not great. The worst was the Coldplay song- That dude who sang that song should of figured out that he was deal with 3 hard rockers not too mention Dave Navarro.

I watched it until some Swedish guy came out, and I thought he was going to rock and rock hard, and he played some whiny emo song, and then I changed the channel.

He was the dude who came on after the chick sang somebody to love... she was kinda hot.

Supernova are perhaps best-known for the tune "Chewbacca," which appeared in Kevin Smith's film "Clerks."I knew the name Supernova was familiar...besides being a Liz Phair song as well.

I agree 100% Watching Tommy Lee's face while the dude was singing was priceless. You have the former bass player for Metallica in the band for goodness sake, play something with some balls. His answer for singing Coldplay on the last show was complete crap, something about being "an artist", screw that, be a rocker!

The first episode for last years show was horrible, and the jd kid and IIRC Marty didn't really dominate to after midway thru the season. IMO there were only 1 or 2 bad performers the other night. Last year about 1/2 of them were bad.

As for the songs sung on the first show. They had a set list to choose from I believe, so the producers are to blame for the non rocking selections. Now the dude that followed up the 2nd night with Duran Duran was just a dumb ass. Or OTOH it could simply be that this is the type of music he does and didn't want to change to make the band. So they just weren't a good fit. (But then why was he even on the show... Whatever.)

I enjoyed the INXS one so much last year that I was pumped to watch this. It's still entertaining, but it's harder to judge since we haven't heard a Supernova song yet. I think we can get a pretty good idea from who's in it, but it's still different since they're not going to be replacing an established lead singer.

It's too early to pick favorite, but it should be a fine ride.

And I like Duran Duran quite a bit, but it certainly wouldn't be my answer to "now let's see you rock" coming someone who had been in Metallica. Yeeesh.

Thoughts...

Aside from Storm giving me an erection that could pierce steel plate, and the last dude rockin' it out to the Killers, the rest of the show was a big whu-tee-eff?

Psychodame's Cash was pretty sweet. I didn't like it at first, but the whole bellydancing middle-eastern vibe was mesmerizing.

What's with many of the chicks deciding to perform in costume? To me the guys in the band don't seem the type to want a lead singer who is going to want to make a few dozen costume changes per show. I could be wrong, but that's not what I'd guess they are looking for.

And totally agree on the songs they are giving them to choose from. Kind of silly that the guys just want to hear them do hard rocking stuff, but they are forcing them to do so many songs that don't fit. (Including different styles for TV ratings I suppose?)

Although I disagree on the version of Ring of Fire. It's ballsy to put your own spin on a classic and I thought it worked out well.

I say half of them can't sing and don't even deserve to be up there. If only I'd known about the tryouts sooner I would've headed up to Chicago and stomped them. Seriously, if that's the best of the best they could find, I'd have had a good shot at final 5 or something.

First off...how hardcore is Dilana to take a Cranberries song and rock it like that? Loved it.

I feel like Magni finally showed up this week, first time I've actually liked a performance of his and could see him fronting the band.

As for the rest of the show...what a bunch of crap:

I wish that assfase Josh would fall off the stage. Singing Come As You Are out of the side of his face with a wink and a smile? Shame on him.

I love chicks with guitars, but Jenny had no business performing like that for a hard rock band. Bad choice, prepare to sing again tomorrow.

Really surprised by Toby's song choice/arrangement. He's been my favorite up til now, but that put him in jeopardy.

I'm picking Lukas or Dilana for the encore tomorrow and Jenny or Zayra to go home.

However, I have to disagree with Supernova on two counts:

1. Zayra sucks. That did NOT deserve praise, and yes, she's got power, she still sings like she's got a mouth full of marbles and refuses to "plant her foot and rock out."

2. Dana was great. She brought it and the guys still weren't having it. I think they have this mild-child mentality as far as she goes now and I don't think there's much she can do to change it at this point.

Xevious
07-19-2006, 01:57 AM
Dilana is my favorite. I think she is pulling ahead of the cattle.

I still hate the puerto rican chick. However, She did a great job with that REM song (and this is coming from a guy who loathes R.E.M) but she has no clue what this band is about.

I like Dana but she kinda lacks a killer instinct. Picking a Bon Jovi song was a bad choice. She needs to do something like Deep Purple's Highway Star or some shit. Fuck that pansy rock bullshit.

I like Iceland dude but I'm not really convinced that he's got what it takes. I thought that STP song was so-so.

Jenny was boring. So was that Australian dude. He needs to rock his cock out and he's hasn't done that.

Lukas did great. In fact, it was his best preformance. He looks like a freak though....

edit: I also like Storm's Cars cover. Well done...

ryanbph

fairly good show. I agree that the puerto rican chick did her best performance yet. Dana is on the wrong show, she should be on americain idol or the one, as she has a great voice but is not a rocker. The iceland dude showed flashes of being great. Lukas was solid as usual, but I wonder if the band is going in the screetching voice sound direction. Diliana sounded great, but her jumping around like she was a ninja annoyed me.

i think i was wrong before about the people not being as good as last year. i forgot how much crap you had to go through to get to the good ones. after having watched a few more shows, i think there are some good singers on there.

i think the problem i have with the show isn't the singers, it's the band. inxs had a legitimate reason for doing the show. their lead singer died. now whether they just couldn't find anyone to replace him, or they wanted to give a shot to an unknown, it worked.

but this years just seems like either a marketing campaign, or tommy lee's latest grab for publicity. (even the name supernova just to me seems like it came staight out of a marketing meeting) gilby and jason actually seem like they want to find a singer, but tommy acts like the show is about him. it's like he thinks "well, i'm not in motely crue anymore, not married to pamela anderson, got no sex tapes out, my last reality show failed. i need something to get me some publicity. hey, that rockstar show worked pretty well for inxs, maybe i should grab a couple musicians and see if it works for me."

anyway, that's just my $ .02

Its interesting what you wrote but I do have some counter-points to your argument

1. He did not authorize the sex tapes to be leaked into public. Those tapes were stolen from his house.
2. He did not have any pre-emptive motive to beat up Pamela Anderson; It was done in the heat of passion.
3. He was indirectly, NOT directly involved the boy drowning in his pool.

The three things listed above were done by Tommy but not for the purpose of getting media attention. They were done because he is stupid. I can't really call Tommy Lee a publicity-whore because most of the news worthy items about him where events that he did not want leaked out in public.

-------
I will say this though (and this is a little off-topic). He is the softest out of the three. Jason plays the heaviest rock (Metallica/Voivod/Flotsom & Jetsom), Gilby is next in terms of heavyness (Kill for Thrills, Guns-N-Roses, various solo albums) and Tommy Lee comes last in comparsion (Motley Crue started to mellow out a lot after 'Shout at the Devil')

i didn't say anything about beating up pamela anderson, or anybody drowning in his pool. and as to the sex tape, he sure took advantage of the publicity it got him whether he authorized it or not.

News Article:
'Rock Star' Finalist Slams SUPERNOVA's Debut Single - July 25, 2006 Ousted "Rock Star: Supernova" finalist Jenny Galt has told Tara Merrin of the Edmonton Sun (http://www.edmontonsun.com/) that the "Rock Star" contestants are giving a big thumbs-down to SUPERNOVA's debut single.

"A lot of people in the group are skeptical about what kind of music they're playing," says the 29-year-old Montreal-born pop-rocker now based in Vancouver.

"(SUPERNOVA) say they want to do something fresh and new, but then the first track we got to hear, a lot of people were just like, 'Ew. I'm not sure if I like this.'

"It sounded just like that same old, boys rock 'n' roll kind of glam thing they said they weren't going to be doing. It was a bit surprising."

Galt, eliminated from the CBS-TV reality series last week, says the finalists are also questioning SUPERNOVA's commitment to its own future.

She says many contestants feel its members — Tommy Lee (MÖTLEY CRÜE's drummer), Jason Newsted (former METALLICA bassist) and Gilby Clarke (former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist) — are not exactly hellbent on making the new band a success.

"Because Tommy Lee's got MÖTLEY CRÜE and Jason Newsted's very passionate about (Canadian metal band) VOIVOD, there are a lot of questions as to whether this band is going to really take off. That's up in the air," she says.

"And then, how much commitment do the actual members of SUPERNOVA have?

"There was a lot of chit-chat in the mansion about that."

Wow....she sounds like a sore fucking loser to me.
Actually, she's not that far off:

http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1534239/06132006/metallica.jhtml

A full North American tour will follow the release of the record. But while Supernova will function in the studio and on the road as an actual band, Lee and Newsted are keeping their day jobs. Lee is still an active member of Mötley Crüe, and Newsted plans to enter the studio with Voivod in early 2007 to record the last batch of tunes by their late guitarist, Denis "Piggy" D'Amour (see "Voivod Guitarist Denis 'Piggy' D'Amour Dies Of Cancer At 45"). Actually, one reason Newsted accepted the offer to be in Supernova was to plug his other ventures.

"It's a good chance to really pimp some serious Voivod and also my studio, Chophouse," he said. "The first show airs July 5, and Voivod's new album, Katorz, comes out July 25. So I'll certainly be wearing some Voivod clothing during the weeks leading up to the release of the record and following its release, and I'll be mentioning the band in various appearances."

Things could always change, but at this point Newsted doesn't seem to be thinking that much about the long-term potential for Supernova — he's more interested in how the TV show can promote Voivod.

"Really, you can't buy this kind of publicity," he concluded. "Somewhere between 20 and 40 million people around the globe will watch this show every week. If I got together with the guys in Metallica and we put all our money together to advertise, it still wouldn't come close to what they're spending to plug this show, which is backed by Verizon, Microsoft and Honda.

"We got invited to play a private party for Bill Gates a couple days ago: That's how crazy this world is," he laughed. "And that's a chance for me to wear a Voivod shirt in front of these mother----ers. So, I'm liking this. I'm liking this a lot."

http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1534239/06132006/metallica.jhtml
Well in the case of Voivod, there is one major thing that that MTV news article forgot the mention: The guitarist (and major architect for that band)that died last year of cancer is the main reason for the exsitence for that band. So this will in fact be the last Voivod album. I really dont see how the band will continue after that. Thats some shoddy journalism....

And as for Motley Crue, Tommy Lee is always in and out of that band so he is generally unstable as it is.

I still think she's a sore loser and a big pussy

And Zayra skates yet AGAIN! Un-fuck-ing believable! She absolutely *massacred* Not An Addict. Makes me sick.

Oh, but we're sorry Phil, you had your best performace yet, we're just not sure you wanted to do that.

But Storm...oh my Storm...fantastic. Such a great song for her.

Phil fucked up the Wallflowers "One Headlight". How on Earth do you fuck that up? It is the simplest song ever to sing, should have peeled it back to acoustic guitars and kept it low-key. He deserves to go for that piece-o-crap du jour. At least it's fun to watch Zayra fail horribly, as long as she's not murdering classics to me. More than I can say for some of the others...

Which leads me to wonder who does everyone think screwed up the original song, the most? Guy Smiley covering Heart-Shaped Box? Dilana mutilating Johnny Cash? What do you think?

I thought she did a great job with that song. I prefer the original version but her version was excellent too.

I still can't believe that Puerto Rican chick is still on the show. I am in shock just like WhipSmartBanky.....

They all are pretty well. Lukas is just sitting there like 8-) "I rock." and Guy Smiley back there going :D "I got soul." and so on. But yeah Zayra should have been out first, they could have kept Mr. Duran Duran for a little while longer. I mean jeez.

My guess for Bottom 3 tomorrow... Zayra (for the last time I'd bet), Jill, and I dunno maybe Josh or Toby. Personally I think Lukas ought to be down there for so spectacularly blundering his song. That and I just do not like him.

Encore:: Ryan, the dude earned that one. :applause:

Pretty mediocre show. I don't know about Zayra being done yet, the guys love her if nothing else for her weirdness and overt sexuality. That, and she annoys the bloody hell out of me, so that ensures another week of performances.

Lukas needs to get his shit scared straight with a bottom three showing. His performance was akin to a really bad Weird Al parody. Did he get more than a third of the words right? I couldn't hear much of it through gritted teeth and the Zayra-esque marblemouth.

As much as I hate Josh "Assface" Logan, his rendition of Santeria was spot on.

Jill, definitely bottom three. Dilana was rather boring this week. Patrice, Dana, and Toby? Eh, what'd you guys sing again? Whatever. I don't think Magni was as good as the guys gave him credit for. Passable at best. Definitely Ryan for the encore, that was brilliant. Everyone else was phoning it in. I love the candid reactions during the peformances by the band and the other contestants.

And my Storm, oh my Storm, how I love you more and more each week.

Yeah Storm had the best preformance that night. I actually liked most of the preformances that night.

Zayra, I hate to admit it, was interesting this week. I hate her guts but I honestly will have to say that her preformance was not the worst. She look like something out of Barbarella.

Jill is suffering from a lack of imagination. I think a telling sign happened last week when she said that "everything in rock and roll has already been done"

Edit: I'm not a fan of Lucas' singing. In fact, his style of singing seems to be in vogue with some of the rock I hear on the radio now. Its one of the reasons why I don't listen to the radio anymore..

Wow...didn't see that coming, and only picked one out of the bottom three. I figured:Jill, Lukas and Zayra would be up there. After seeing the performances tonight I was sure Jill would go, just based on the fact that she was bottom three AND gave her best performance on the rebound, which is usually what it takes to get booted if the last few weeks mean anything. I wouldn't have even been sad if Patrice went, but Dana? Naw...

Not trying to be sexist, but all those females need the boot. holy crap, that chicks "redo" of house of the rising sun... horrible. so pitchy and wrong. All of them force this jaw fake voice out (same with most of the guys), they're not using their natural voices, its really annoying me. The chick who gets all the praise, I really don't shes good either, so gross and raspy/throaty/forced vibrato (again, the forced vibrato is same for everyone.).

That friggin house band is awesome. the harmonies those guys can make, that guy could hit it on the Heart song they played (i hate heart, but its cool when guys can hit notes that high and sound strong vocally). the drummer is stinkin' good as well.

was it me or was the music/sound off tonight. I thought the opening song with dilena sucked ass, her worst performance imo. And gilby trying to sing was horrible. Jill peformed better, but sounded poor. Josh sounded great, but perfomed horribly with tommy on the drums. He really needed to drop the guitar. Toby did ok, nothing great, but a nice change to the song. I can't stand storm, but she did good. She song the song spot on. I thought magni gave the best performance of the night, untill lucas. He kicked that songs ass. Ryan had a great performance, but imo paint it black should get some excitement going, and I felt none listening to him. Not a big fan of phyllis either, but she did ok. For the first time, I don't think zayra deserves bottom 3.

I thought it was a great show, and at least Zayra consistently proves she doesn't belong. She's thrown it in everyone's face time and time again that she doesn't give a shit about their music, the show, or anything but her wild self, and they eat it up. If she can make it to the top 5, I'll vote for her to win just out of spite. Jill and Patrice seem to be going backwards. Magni was fantastic tonight. I didn't really like Lukas' performance, but I see what he was going for and it worked for him. Still can't stand Josh "Assface" Logan. Toby was great until he got the megaphone - I instantly had flashbacks of JD last year, and I knew the band wouldn't let him slide on that. Ryan wasn't nearly as good as last week, but he gave the band what they wanted, so whatever. Dilana and Storm...I dunno, I really like both of them, probably my favorites to win, but I prefer when they're doing their own thing with their own arrangements, rather than these "safer" acts the last few weeks. Storm's got the voice and the power though.

At this stage, I'd have to vote for Storm as my top female to win, and Magni as the top male to take it.

No one thinks Lukas will be in it? After all he spectacularly blundered a song all to hell and didn't even get anywhere near the bottom 3. He has the goth kid crowd voting like all hell for him. Why? 'Cause he looks good? Sorry, but singers do not have to look good, they have to be able to, what is it again...? Sing!

He sounds like William Hung, and looks like trailer trash that blew through an entire cosmetic department, flung out into the atmosphere, and landed in the middle of Hot Topic headquarters. If I was the judge I'd have kicked him off the first night, had I the power. If I had the power, Magni would take it, the dude rocks. Those are just my opinions though... ha.

SUPERNOVA Files Injunction Against TOMMY LEE's 'Rock Star: Supernova' - Aug. 11, 2006

Chris Harris of MTV.com reports that the members of Orange County, California, punk trio SUPERNOVA filed for a preliminary injunction Friday (August 11) in San Diego's U.S. District Court against CBS Broadcasting, Mark Burnett Productions and Tommy Lee, Jason Newsted and Gilby Clarke — the three future members of the band searching for a lead singer on the show "Rock Star: Supernova" — which seeks to halt the act from performing or recording under the name "SUPERNOVA" if they fail to change or add any words to the moniker.

The filing follows a suit the original SUPERNOVA — bassist Art Mitchell, drummer Dave Collins and guitarist Jodey Lawrence — filed against the show's producers in late June, which alleged trademark infringement. That suit seeks a jury trial, as well as the destruction of all "labels, signs, prints, packages, wrappers, containers, advertisements, electronic media and other materials bearing the SUPERNOVA mark."

Zayra: See, she WORKS in Spanish. She's obviously a very talented performer with the right music. Supernova is NOT the right music. Anything in English is NOT the right music.

Patrice: I changed the channel to see what else was on. 'Nuff said.

Magni: Star...he's quickly closing in on winning this one.

Lukas: I never thought he could make a song that boring.

Storm: How I love thee, no matter what. I'll give them the fact she could've arranged the song differently, but vocally I didn't think there was a thing wrong with Storm's performance.

Toby: Peter Gabriel is one of my all time favorites singers/songwriters. Toby, he's a great performer, but did he even look at the lyric sheet? If they thought that was good they're still drunk from Vegas. What a massacre.

Ryan: That was chilling. Great arrangement. Loved how he just stood his ground and nailed it.

Dilana: It was good, but...just good. I know it's hard to say this, but I expect more from Dilana at this point. I'm surprised she did such a straight up arrangement. Old song, yeah, she brought it up to a more "rock" level, I just thought she'd have something truly shocking and different.

I don't think Lukas was as bad as people are saying. Maybe it's because I don't like that song in the first place, but while I think he reverted back to the grunt a bit he still 'sang' more than the first few weeks - so progress. The thing he has going for him is that he has his own thing going on, whereas someone like Patrice is pretty standard/generic.

I can't believe Toby didn't get called on the lyrics. I'm a pretty big PG fan and he messed up quite a bit of the words, not very impressive.

I thought Magni was very polished and seemed like a pro, not like he was trying out for a band.

Dilana totally deserves the first performance with Supernova, but I'm really disappointed in the music itself. The boys have been touting that they're going to do something new and fresh and different in rock and roll and it sounds EXACTLY like EVERYTHING else that HAS been done in the last 30 years. I'm not impressed.

Ryan for the encore, fanastic!

Zayra's a big ol' bag of whathafuck! I don't understand how week after week she can just spaz and flake and...meh, not worth it.

Patrice, doll, you do NOT have the chops to tackle a Hole track, and especially NOT on elimination night.

Magni...dude, you had ALL the chicks crying...including Dilana and Storm. If you didn't already have a woman you'd SO be getting laid tonight. I love how diverse the talent is, that Magni and Lukas can do the same song over the history of the show, and they're two drastically different performances. storm and patrice were some lucky ladies...storm deserved bottom 3, and with the amount of people left and the lack of show time left, they should have done the double cut. I like dilena as a singer/performer, but her crying when zayra got the boot, and then saying that is bull made me change my mind. How the fuck do you plan on winning the spot, if they don't get rid of other people. I was in shock when they panned to dileana and storm, and dilana appears to mouth the words "that is bull"

Song selections for this week snagged from Reality TV World plus some commentary from me...

Patrice - Beautiful Thing - Original song
Magni - Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
Ryan - Back of your Car - Original song
Storm - Cryin' - Aerosmith
Dilana - Every Breath You Take - the Police
Toby - Layla - Eric Clapton
Lukas - All These Things That I've Done - The Killers

Patrice getting an original song selection is a waste. She's gone this week anyway, in my opinion. Then the real fight is on.

Magni singing Teen Spirit? Maybe NOW I'll find out what the words actually are, besides the Weird Al version... ;)

Unless Dilana grunges up Every Breath like Juliana Hatfield did...I'm not interested.

Storm on an Aerosmith song? Damn, I heart her, but this might get her a bottom three...not even she can possibly make that song cool.

I'm thinking just from the selections that Toby, Storm, and Patrice will be bottom three, with Patrice leaving.

Thoughts...

Patrice - Beautiful Thing - Original song - Nah, not impressed at all. Patrice is the next who needs to leave. Like Dave said, she might have a great solo career, but definitely not in front of Supernova.

Magni - Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana - That really kicked ass. I didn't care for Magni in the first few weeks of the competition, but now he's really taking leaps and bounds to the forefront of leading Supernova.

Ryan - Back of your Car - Original song - I was floored. Damn, that was fantastic. Ryan's another dude coming from the back of the pack to totally knock the house down. Well done.

Storm - Cryin' - Aerosmith - I take it back, she made it work through the brute force power of her voice. I wish she'd take more liberties in the arranging, but yeah, there were points where I got chills.

Dilana - Every Breath You Take - the Police - I like how she had them drop the bassline down, but I thought she was a bit flippant and "out of character" at times for the tone of the song. I still stand by the fact that Juliana Hatfield did the best all time cover of this song.

Toby - Layla - Eric Clapton - Despite what Supernova said, I actually liked this version, and they're right, Toby had a great stage presence, great energy, and it had an additive effect of making it a great performance.

Lukas - All These Things That I've Done - The Killers - I'm about as impressed with Lukas lately as I am Patrice. I don't know what happened to Lukas, but he's lost something. Did Hole do him in?

My picks for bottom three after viewing the show? Lukas and Patrice solidly, and sadly, either Dilana or Storm for the third spot. Maybe Toby if the vote goes wonky. Patrice goes home.

Also of note, the Finale is September 13th. That means including this week, there are three weeks of dismissals before the final show. Could we possibly be seeing another double elimination? With seven remaining, only losing one per show until the finale will leave a top four. I can't remember how it went down last year, but most Finales of this type go with a top three.

Lukas is not going to get voted in the bottom three ever as long as the general(ly idiotic) public is voting, Lukas will stay as far away from possible elimination as he has from vocal coaches, because he's being carried there. Say thank you to the goth kids, Lukas, and if you ever get in the bottom 3, just sing Nine Inch Nails or the Cure, the whole room will swoon to your Cookie Monster-esque snarling (ahem...) singing.

That said, once it is up to Supernova, and not the general(ly idiotic) public, I hope they have the wherewithal to kick him the hell off the show and back to the Hot Topic he came from.

Magni and Ryan are the best thus far, and have had 2 encores apiece. I'll personally be happy if either of those two win.

If they don't, if that hack-and-slash job Lukas wins, I will lead a mutiny the likes of which have never been seen. And I am soooo not kidding about that.

So is anyone actually interested in hearing their album? I will definitely if it's Magni, Ryan, or Toby. Others, meh. I will of course listen to it, because Butch Walker is producing it, so thus, it will have to kick some degree of ass. Even if that pouty goth fuck kid Lukas wins, I imagine Butch could make him sound at least decent. Better than Nickelback if nothing else...

Also, for the record...

ryan, after being horrible for awhile, he has really turned it up.

Storm, it was an ok rendition. IIRC, dave said to perform memorable, and that was not

dilena, IMO was horrible. That was a horrible version of every breath you take

toby, I loved the rearrangement, and he performed awsome.

Lucas, don't know what happened to him, but his horrible vocals, and looking at the band is annoying.

bottom 3 should be, patrice, lucas, and dilena. Patrice has got to go.

Pre-performance chatter. Wow, Dilana is a mmmmmmassive cunt! Serious loss of teh cool p01nt.

I'm surprised they omitted the encore this week, especially to dedicate so much time to Dilana's bitchisode.

Bottom three...Patrice for sure, but Magni and Toby? Toby maybe, but Magni?! What the fuck, guys? After the performances it was pretty clear who didn't belong. The band sent Patrice home rightfully.

Next week? I used to like Lukas, but I think he needs to be the next to go. I can almost bet Dilana will pull a bottom three spot just based on her offstage antics. Toby's toeing the line, as is Storm, unfortunately. Ryan just keeps looking stronger and stronger, and Magni is staying solid.

I totally agree with you about dilena...with a lead drummer like tommy lee, would he want a big mouth like her in the band behind the scenes. Very suprised that both magni and toby were in the bottom three. IMO, lucas has really lost the attitude/cockiness that he had in the first couple of weeks.

Also, someone had asked about how many were in the finale last year. It was only two the last week IIRC. It was just marty and jd. So 4 is too many.

I dont understand why Magni made it to the bottom 3 twice already and Lukas has yet to make it there. There are a lot of Magni fans in this thread but somehow its not the case everywhere else.

And I agree with WhipSmart. To me, Dilena is the equivalent of last years Indiapolis Colts. Early in the season, all the football experts were predicting they will win the Superbowl but in the end, they barely whiffed the playoffs. All that shit-talk Dilena did shows some chink in her armor...Thats a bad sign.

Song selections...ganked from Reality TV World, as usual:

This week was the viewer's choice:

Lukas - Lithium - Nirvana
Magni - I, Alone - Live
Ryan - Clocks - Coldplay
Storm - Bring Me Back to Life - Evanescance, with special guest singer...
Toby - Rebel Yell - Billy Idol
Dilana - Mother Mother - Tracy Bonham

i went to their website last week to vote for some songs but couldn't find the link to it.

Well, I had hoped it wouldn't come to this, but the last six are just so good, there's no clear "worst" anymore. Storm's performance made all the hair on my arms stand up...chilling. Magni was fantastic. Lukas wasn't bad. Toby was great. Ryan was crazy. Dilana again shows why the band loves her so much.

It's hard for me to pick a bottom three, but I kind of agree with the early voting - Storm, Lukas, Ryan. If Supernova tipped their hand at all in their critiques, I think they're going to use this week to get rid of Storm, unfortunately. I think now that it's down to the two women, they like Dilana more than Storm and it's simply a matter of now or later.

If that's the case, I'd love to see Lukas go, then Toby, with Ryan, Dilana, and Magni being the final three. Magni FTW.

I missed the first 5 minutes of the show so I didnt see what Dilana did that was so wrong.

In any case, I did catch all the performances and yeah everyone did great. My favorite was Toby. Ryan whom I never cared about before also did great.

I guess If I had to vote for someone to leave, I guess it would be Lukas because I'm just not a fan of his singing style. He's seems like a good guy though.

I agree with WhipSmart in that there is no clear "Bad" singer anymore....This makes the show more gut wretching in the future. You hate to see good people go, especially when there are a lot of stupid singers like Paris Hilton getting ink in the press.

That's exactly what I'm wondering. Especially since I recognize the plot of this "reality" show from last season. JD's fall from grace, near self-destruction, only to pick himself up and redeem himself to become the chosen one.

Don't get me wrong, I love this show and I loved it last year - for the performances - but Mark Burnett's stamp is all over it.

I hope this isn't the case, as I'd much rather see Magni take it than Dilana.

Wow...Ryan, Storm and Dilana bottom three? Ryan goes home? Say it ain't so! Storm gave me chills yet again, Ryan probably had his most powerfully energetic crowd stealing performance yet, and Dilana trotted all KINDS of suck up and down the stage.

I know, this is shocking, coming from me...

...but Dilana's performance plus her behavior this past two weeks should've sealed her fate. I don't know how much *credit* she has built up with the band, but damn, to get away with this week and stay. What a slap in the face.

Well...I thought the performance were decent but none of them blew me away. I think the reason why Ryan was really good with the Coldplay songs and the melodic songs but he's not really a balls-out rocker like they want.

I started to like Ryan recently so I'm sad to see him go. Still, I feel that it was the best decision.

I still like Dilana; Yeah she's pretty damaged but who isnt? She hasn't turned into Courtney Love (yet). So WhipSmart and I will have divergent views on her....

Storm I love but I don't know if she will go the distance. She is definately easy on the eyes....

IMO, all 3 performances last night sucked ass. Ryan, while I like him, doesn't seem to have the experiance to front a band. His stage prescense isn't the greatest and at times looks akward. Storm performed well but imo sounded horrible. Dillenna was horrible anyway you look at it. She might have talent, but judging from the songs that supernova has played so far, she doesn't have the voice sound that seems to go right with there music. IMO, lukas has looked the best fronting the band. When he is balls out and swaggering on the stage he looks like he belongs as the lead singer. When he is looking at the drummer with his back to the crowd he looks like shit.

I only voted for Storm and Toby this time.

I didnt care for Lukas with his style of singing. Dilana needs to get past playing the pity card- As far as I'm concerned, its getting old.

Magni did a great job with the Bowie song but I was kinda indifferent about his original. Oh...what the hell. I'll vote for Magni.

Magni was good tonight, I hope all of Iceland votes for him. I'm predict that it's Storm that gets kicked off next even though she was one of the strong performers tonight. If it were up to me, Lukas needs to go home. His singing voice is the weakest of all of who is left. Dilana has really dropped off too and probably had the worst of the original songs.

were we watching the same show...storm was out of breath out of the first song, and while the song sounded good, she sounded like shit in the original, as she was clearly out of breath. Magni, was ho hom imo. Both his beatles song as well as his orginal. Dilena, kudos for going on stage, great job on the who song, but your original sucked. lukas was solid imo. While stripping down the living on the prayer might have been a bad idea, he sounded solid and he had his confident strut in his original. Tobby kicked ass, in both the cover and his original. Solid vocals, great energy and great stage presence. I think it is his to win. Magni is a great performer, but he looks like a guy you would ask to be a godparent of your child. Toby looks like tough, and acts crazy. IMO, that is what the frontman of supernova should be.

As they say... Ed Zachary (exactly).

That original song he did is amazing, Magni's was good, but Toby's just blew the roof off that mutha. Everyone else's was bleh, and Lukas'... Well let's just say...

"It makes my head hurt,
It makes my head huuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrttttttttttttttt" :headache:

Yeah, that's more accurate. But what do I know? I'm not a songwriter... Oh wait, yeah I am. I can come up with better songs using one random word from the dictionary in every line, and singing in a different key every 9.6 seconds, with my hands tied behind my back and a sock over my head.

And also, he wears too much make up and various... err... things... he's the kind of girl (cough) guy, that I could see doing 81 things before going to work, or just to the grocery store just because he thinks people might see him.

Oh my god, if it was up to me I would have kicked him off the show Day 1. The Cookie Monster, should not sing. Period.

I promise though, no more anti-Lukas sentiment from me any more. Unless he wins... then... well, then I'll just snap. :bomb:

I agree, dilena again disapponted me. She has been off the past two weeks, ever since the whole controversy. It is a shame that Storm went home but personally I think she would be better off not being the front woman for SuperNova. Now that we are at the end, I think Toby is the best suited to front this band. I also think that Magni and Storm should at least be given recording contracts as it is evident that they both possess a lot of talent. Funny how the show hyped up both Dilana and Lukas, but those two are my least favorite now.

Here is a news item:

Judge Sides With Original SUPERNOVA In 'Rock Star' Suit - Sep. 12, 2006 [U]MTV.com (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/) reports that the producers of CBS' "Rock Star" are going to have to come up with an alternate name for SUPERNOVA, the band made up of MÖTLEY CRÜE's Tommy Lee, VOIVOD's Jason Newsted and former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Gilby Clarke, according to a Tuesday (September 12) ruling by San Diego Judge John Houston.

Last month, the original SUPERNOVA — an Orange County, California, punk trio — filed for a preliminary injunction in San Diego's U.S. District Court against CBS Broadcasting, Mark Burnett Productions and Lee, Newsted and Clarke, who are starring in the second season of the reality show. The injunction sought to halt the television-contrived act from performing or recording under the name "SUPERNOVA" if the band fails to change or add any words to the moniker.

Lee, Newsted and Clarke were dropped as defendants late last month at the request of the original SUPERNOVA's lawyers.

Earlier Tuesday, Houston granted the request from the members of the original SUPERNOVA — bassist Art Mitchell, drummer Dave Collins and guitarist Jodey Lawrence — for the preliminary injunction. The injunction keeps the producers of "Rock Star: Supernova" — which concludes Wednesday night — from "performing rock and roll music, or recording, or selling rock and roll music recordings under the same [name], pending a trial of this action on its merits, or until otherwise ordered by the court."

Its obvious that the band will not be called Supernova anymore (see my prior post). I wonder what will they call themselves........

I thought Toby was the pick for sure. I kind of think they kept a chick in the running for the final two just to make it REALLY look like they were seriously considering a female lead, but that could be the tin hat affecting my thinking again.

As Xevious already mentioned, looks like they won't be able to use Supernova as the name.

http://www.spin.com/features/news/2006/09/060913_supernova/

Pretty funny after they just wrapped up an entire reality series hyping that name. I didn't pay attention last night (because I wasn't aware an offiicial ruling came down) but when they all took the stage with Lukas were they introduced as Supernova or did they not mention the name outside of the show title?

'Rock Star' Winner LUKAS ROSSI Snubs Girlfriend At Afterparty: Video Available - Sep. 15, 2006 [U]TMZ.com (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/) reports that "Rock Star" winner Lukas Rossi left his girlfriend out in the cold on his first official night in Tommy Lee's band (formerly known as SUPERNOVA) as he partied with the band at a local club. Lukas did come out and talk to his girlfriend briefly but then went back inside the party solo. Before leaving, an agitated Francesca told photographers outside the club she wasn't allowed in because Rossi wasn't supposed to be seen with a girlfriend. Watch video footage from TMZ.com (http://www.tmz.com/2006/09/14/lukas-not-star-boyfriend-material/).

In an interview with Canada.com conducted shortly after being declared frontman for the band that includes Tommy Lee (MÖTLEY CRÜE), Jason Newsted (VOIVOD, ex-METALLICA), and Gilby Clarke (ex-GUNS N' ROSES), Rossi was asked what his reaction was when he found out that he got the gig. "Overwhelmed, man, you know," he said. "But I wasn't going to walk away from this without being the singer, man. I was pretty determined." Asked if he knew going into it that he was going to emerge the victor, the Toronto native responded, "Well, yes and no. If the band chose somebody besides myself because it would have made the band what they wanted for their vision then I would step back and respect that. But, you know, I'm standing here now and obviously I was the right person for the job."

Global Television announced last week that Lukas Rossi and Gilby Clarke of ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA will be on hand to rock the Canadian television industry — and fans nationwide — as featured musical guests at the 21st annual Gemini Awards, broadcast direct from The River Rock Casino Resort in Vancouver, B.C.

Toronto's own Lukas Rossi returns to Canada to perform for the first time since emerging victorious from the exhaustive search for a lead singer conducted by all-star bandmates Tommy Lee (MÖTLEY CRÜE), Gilby Clarke (ex-GUNS N' ROSES) and Jason Newsted (VOIVOD, ex-METALLICA). The highly publicized quest — documented on the hit series "Rock Star: Supernova" and broadcast this past summer in Canada on Global Television — fascinated audiences nationwide, dominated ratings, and cemented Canada's primetime love affair with Rossi, its homegrown hero.

The 21st annual Gemini Awards will kick off at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on Saturday, November 4 with a special half-hour presentation, "ET Canada Live: On the Gemini Red Carpet". Host Cheryl Hickey, along with the ET Canada team of reporters will welcome the stars, dish on nominee and presenter fashions, and provide exclusive backstage buzz from The ET Canada Gemini Lounge.

Then, at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT, the hour-long 2006 awards telecast follows — with presenters including Evangeline Lilly, Cheryl Hickey, Brent Butt, Nicholas Campbell, Wendy Crewson, Shawn Ashmore and Shaun Majumder on hand to welcome Lukas Rossi and Gilby Clarke to the stage.

As previously reported, Newsted has been sidelined by injuries to his left shoulder, right bicep and right rotator cuff. The former METALLICA member, who was injured trying to catch a 90-pound piece of equipment that had fallen from atop of his amp, is scheduled for immediate surgery and a rehab schedule that could last up to nine months.

ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA is currently searching for a suitable replacement to handle touring duties while Newsted recovers.

Review: ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA Fails To Impress Out Of The Block At Las Vegas Opening - Jan. 1, 2007 Neil Davidson of the Canadian Press reports:

The reality TV show is over for ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA. Now there's just the reality of turning a made-for-TV group into a real rock band.

And judging from the foursome's opening show New Year's Eve, there's plenty of work left to do.

Led by Toronto singer Lukas Rossi, SUPERNOVA delivered a wildly uneven show before some 2,000 at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

SUPERNOVA chugged through the show like a car on its last legs, occasionally speeding up only to lose power and fall back. It was one step forward and two back for most of the eighty-minute, 13-song performance that started at 11:20 p.m. after a performance by opening act LUNA HALO, a fivesome from Nashville.

The band's musical hiccups weren't helped by a sophomoric "Girls Gone Wild" mentality throughout the show, with drummer Tommy Lee digging into the MÖTLEY CRÜE vault for the "titty-cam" to encourage women in the audience to bare their breasts for the big screen.

No stranger to using a camcorder, Lee should know better.

And any style points the band received for using a four-woman string section for three songs were lost by the decision to have two dancers in lingerie, denim chaps and boots gyrate on several others. All that was missing was the pole, but it's early days on tour.

Rossi was welcomed by a vocal Canadian contingent, with Maple Leaf flags and at least one Leafs jersey with the name Rossi stitched on the back.

All of them must have cringed when guitarist Gilby Clarke introduced Rossi "from the great state of Toronto, Canada."

Have to give them props for actually sticking together long enough to actually do the New Year's gig. I think they mentioned it every episode.

how much longer are they going to stick together, and Jason Newsted didn't look like he was there as the article said he was injured

ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA Singer Marries Ex-Porn Star KENDRA JADE - May 30, 2007 Canada.com (http://www.canada.com/topics/entertainment/story.html?id=8c7876a2-b65d-45f3-8fb6-bea506401272&k=81903) reports that Lukas Rossi, lead singer of ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA, tied the knot with former porn star Kendra Jade.

The 30-year-old rocker married Jade, also 30, at a Las Vegas chapel on May 14. Both the bride and groom wore black.

"It was beautiful and no, Elvis didn't marry us," Rossi told ET Canada. "It was just me and her. I wanted it to be just intimate, you know."

In April, Rossi brought Jade home to Toronto to meet his once-estranged father. The couple will return to Canada later this summer for a Catholic wedding service with friends and family in attendance.

Jade said there are also plans for an Italian honeymoon.

As for kids, Rossi said: "We'll see what happens with that."

Watch video footage of Rossi hanging out in Los Angeles with Jade and porn star Mary Carey at this location (http://www.lulop.com/player/7817/1).

Rossi shot to fame last September when he won the reality series "Rock Star: Supernova" and joined the band featuring veterans Tommy Lee, Gilby Clarke, Jason Newsted. He is scheduled to perform a solo concert on June 6 in Hollywood.

Jade, who was born in Massachusetts, made a string of X-rated videos with titles like "Tricked by an Angel" and "The Sopornos" after pictures of her in a tryst with Jerry Springer were published in 1998.
