I don't care how "rare" it is, no Barbie game is worth seventy damn dollars.

Hell, Herc's Adventures is going for $60, and while I want the game, I won't pay that much for it.

Keep in mind eBay was started by a guy who saw how his girlfriend's Pez dispenser collecting owned her life. All the Pez people had to use was Usenet groups, so a idea and an empire was born.

For Barbie collectors a unique and factory sealed artifact like that is easily worth that much. THe vintage dolls can run into the many thousands.

Collecting is the disease that built the House of eBay.

Rhapsody is an utter crap PS1 RPG by the folks who later produced Disgaia. For that sole virtue it has become a collector's item. One I picked up for $10 went for a little over $100 on eBay. The game was obscure and forgotten with good reason. But because people are insane about a PS2 game with no direct relation, it's now treated like buried treasure and coveted intensely.

That really is the only way that someone would pay that kind of money for a game like that. They're not after the stellar gameplay, they're after the graphic on the slip.

epobirs, I'm thinking of buying Boktai as it looks like it could be fun. What's your take on the game?

I've had it lying around for over a year but haven't gotten to it. The reviews suggest a solid action RPG. There is another sequel coming, so it must be moving some carts.

Ain't that a bitch? It was about $28 for a complete copy a few monrhs ago (when I was in school and didn't have money), but now that I have some spare cash...

Fun game, though.

once again, I was gonna bring up rhapsody and epobirs beat me to it :)

yeah, anyway, the same people who bought rhapsody probably paid 70 for barbie.

there's no logic to the collector mindset-- I had someone buy a sealed, non-gh MGS2 (not substance) for $40. When they saw I listed another, they asked how many I had and if any copy was 100% PERFECT-- a centered hang tag on back, centered seal on top, centered insert, no dust or storage marks on the case or anything. They said they would buy another copy if I had a perfect one. that would be 2 copies of a $5 game for $80 because one of them was manufactured and assembeled perfectly. wtf indeed.

It's all true! All true! Collecting is a disease!

I've amassed a huge collection of Transformers (mostly newer stuff), it was getting pretty bad. Then I got back into gaming so I was able to stop that. But then I started to collect my games after I found CAG.:-p

If Barbie welded a chainsaw and buzzed through a horde of Zombies with reckless abandonment, I would buy that game.

Because of its special features: "Classic characters; tons of puzzles; a great story; awesome graphics; two-player action"

I know who would buy it. A rich man wanting the entire Barbie stock just so he can rip it apart and have a great big bonfire to rid the world of this cruelty!

That would be pretty funny, someone with a horde of cash buying up rare items then making videos for youtube of him destroying the item.

One should also consider that the bidder is not a Barbie collector but someone looking to get into the pants of one.

When I think of one such woman I met, $70 is dirt cheap.

All you have to do is think of it as valkyrie profile for a 5 yr old girl. Why would someone pay $70 for a barbie game? Why would someone pay 100+ for a rare rpg? No difference between the 2 just YOU have a different perspective on what YOU like and would pay that kind of money for. I wouldn't pay that money for any single game.

On the other hand, do you want to tell your little 5 yr old daughter that they can't have a barbie game for their birthday or christmas because it is really rare? Me neither. What other xbxo game can a little girl truly play. Not many.

Well if the game is really that rare then it must be worth it. I had a collecting lust for "Polly Pocket" once and right now I have this urge to buy "DragoN Quest" gear after viewing "Dragon Quest Dai" .

I recently lost the urge to buy Metroid or any of the new consoles.

I liked Rhapsody. A little easy, but fun and interesting.

So wow... I had heard bad things about Rhapsody before, and I took a listen to the soundtrack. Let's just say its up for sale immediately.

It may be an ok game, but let's face it, I'd rather play the superior Nippon Ichi games I haven't gotten to yet like Disgaea or Makai Kingdom.

I'm shocked people paid over $100 for this at one time. I think I only bought it because it was $25 at Gamestop at a time when it was $120 on Ebay or some obscene number.

The worst game that should never have made money was Dragon Ball GT back when it was first released on the ps1. It would bring in $150 on ebay and was one of the worst games. Now those people are crying seeing as it was rereleased and both version are worth crap now.

What? And you didn't pick it up?

THEORY:

I'm certain that some spoiled ass brat was yelling at her dad to buy her the game while riding her pony (is it just me, or should ponys start straight up freak out and eat children, because of the instant "awesome" factor involved?) and he got on Ebay, but wanted that bitch to shut the hell up. So he bid $70, and emailed the guy with OVERNIGHT THIS THING OR ELSE.

I'm rather certain that the disgruntled owner of Barbie game has read the email, laughed a bit, and waited patiently for the three day period that he warned about in his User Profile. That's what I would do if I were to sell a Barbie game and someone would beg me to overnight it. According to Jack Thompson, those games are most enjoyed by Pederasts and Furries.
