Whuuuf! Been grinding non-stop on my entry for the Zero Punctuation contest. Only one week left until the deadline. I still have a lot left to do. But progress has been steady.

Over the weekend I got several more graphics and animations completed. Specifically, I was able to create a few of the enemy characters for the levels. I also got the enemy interactions working for two of the levels, and even finished conditional coding for one of the levels. Background music has been added to two of the levels, and sound effects were added to the level that I'm furthest along on. Still a ways to go, but I am encouraged. It's the last big push this week, so I need to grab as many hours for finishing this thing up as possible.

Still to do:

  1. Finish gameplay coding for the last three levels. I already have a decent start on all three. But conditionals and controls need to be tightened up, as well as adding the ending sequences for each. Very little in terms of graphics work remains for these, so its mainly just going to be coding.

  2. Boss battles. This is actually optional, so I'm going to save it for last. One of the levels doesn't even need a boss battle, and the rest can go without if necessary. I would like to have at least one boss battle to cap off the game. With time so short, I can't go into too much detail.

  3. Incorporating sound effects. I already have a start on this as well. I haven't pushed too hard because there has been anything to test it with. Until the gameplay is refined, there isn't any reaso for sound effects. Now that I'm ironing the gameplay out, sound effects will need to be incorporated into the last three levels. What sound work I have done hasn't taken too long, so I'm not really worried about this.

  4. Incorporating music. The composer I'm working with has created two of the four themes I asked him for, and I've already incorporated them into their levels. Getting music into the game has proven fairly easy. I still need to slice up some music for the beginning, the credits, and possibly some filler music for the intro sequence.

  5. The credits. I would like to have credits at the end, as well as a credit "screen" that is accessible from the main menu. A scrolling credit sequence will take a little while, especially if I'm going to do anything to keep it from being too boring.
Keep on trucking!
