There have been some memorable "ZOMG AMAZING" purchases that happen when I'm absolutely not looking. One of my most recent endeavors was buying some $300 worth Schick Quattro Titanium razor blades for ~$100 when a local Krogers had them on clearance, plus a packed-in coupon.
But today's deal definitely tops the list of "Best Purchase Ever" because I am not the ultimate benefactor... So my wife and I went to the mall today to renew her driver's license, and I noticed a $1 bill as we walked along. I decided to pick it up and donate it to a local charity box, but couldn't find one so I held onto it (literally, never putting it in my pocket or wallet) to make sure I didn't keep it. We walked around the mall some more aimlessly and I noticed a new "Toys R Us Express Store" had opened up. Curious to see what was inside, we headed in. We spent ~15 minutes look at the action figures sections but I didn't see anything I liked. My wife recommended we buy a $0.89 Matchbox Car but I (personally) never liked playing with those as a kid since they didn't easily lend themselves to imaginative play. Some Batman figures caught my eye with the 50% sale sign (for $4.50) and I thought it'd be suitable. Then I noticed some Batman action vehicles in the top shelf, which also were 50% off (for $5.50). "Well, I find vehicles infinitely more fun than action figures and it's only $1 more. So why not?" I thought to myself. ![]() Batman Vehicle I Ended Up Choosing My wife and I go to check out when one of the sales representatives says, "Hey, isn't this the crazy vehicle that comes with two action figures for free?" They rang it up and confirmed the deal, so I (slightly confused) went to pick up two Batman figures that I had looked at just 3 minutes earlier and everything worked! A Batman Vehicle and Two action figures for $7.16 after tax. Realizing how amazing a deal this was, I went back and bought two more vehicles with four more Batman figures. All in all, I spent $20.89 for $88.00 worth of merchandise. ![]() All of these toys are going to be donated to "Toys For Tots," which I am incidentally running this year in my office. I hope these toys can bring some happiness to the eventual owners. And to think -- I wouldn't have found this amazing deal had it not been for that random, $1.00 lying on the floor. |

Excellent deal, excellent cause
My family tries to donate at least $20-30 worth of toys each year, they really mean a lot to the kids who receive them. I'm sure the kids who get these will be really happy, I know I had fun with my Batman car/figure set when I was a kid too lol |

And to think most people would have just pocketed that $1. Some kids will be very happy on Christmas morning.
