Pirating on any level isn't cool. If you couldn't get it then why even bother playing or pirate it now?
Yeah, I am pulling the moral stick out and swinging it. Stealing is stealing no matter how you try and break it down. |

I'm going the other way. I say it's ok when there is no viable alternative. So while traditionally I might say dead systems or decade old systems with the Wii giving me VC I wouldn't consider it 'ok' to pirate SNES games that you can easily and for not too high a price get.
Personally the only games i pirate are DS games and that's primarily because it's so easy. Even then I usually only play them for a while and ignore them. I use it as a sort of demo service. I've picked up 3 games because of try-it-first methodology (PuzzleQuest, Layton 1, Ninja Gaiden) all games so good I had to stop after like 20 minutes because I didn't want to get far in the game and start over when I bought it. |

3,4,5,6. I don't look at it in black and white. I ask, is the developer being hurt? (although that too can be debated). If the game is out of print and I cannot buy it new from a online or B&M retailer, it is fair to download. The developers do not make any money from me buying it from a 3rd party.

9. When it's Adobe.
Everything else is a BS excuse. |

When you can't buy the game within the US (IE Import only, or so obscure it will cost you hundred just to import). I also use to say when the system is dead and companies can no longer profit, but with the Virtua Console I'm more against that now. Granted I would never report someone or bitch them out if they had NESTICLE or anything that emulated old NES games.

I was looking for the words, and those are them. The only people who benefit from buying said games now are the resellers and used game stores. |

@Renaissance: why Adobe? Adobe had layoffs this week:
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Adobe-....html?x=0&.v=3 Perhaps this could have been avoided if people didn't steal from them as much. When people steal software, it hurts companies and people lose their jobs. |

I thought it was music, in which case I would have put a 1
but being games, I use it as a way of testing before I buy, but only on handheld do I even do this. I think handheld games are trickier to see the black and white in so I test before I decide I want it |

http://www.minyanville.com/articles/...391/from/yahoo Adobe makes all their money from volume licensing. Companies can't get away with piracy like common users think they can. What kills them is when their annual releases suck, and said companies don't upgrade to the latest version. If Adobe wants to make money, they need to make better products. Look at what Norton did recently. They realized their flagship products started to suck, so they rebuilt them from scratch, and they rock. |

let's not get twisted up with adobe here.

For me, it's when games become rare and difficult to find. I'm fine with paying for a game, even if the price on it is driven up (usually I just pass on the game if that's the case), but when I can't even reasonably purchase the game, then I might consider it alright. Haven't really run into a situation where I can't find something though, so I've never really seen a justifiable reason to pirate a game.

When you steal software, you hurt companies and you hurt people who work for those companies. |

1. Honestly Im ashamed of it but when getting stuff for free is quicker and easier than actually buying it I cant help myself. However, if a game has a lot of replay value or MP I will buy it. I usually pirate the games I just want to play through once or a few missions just to see what the fuss is about. Its also cheaper than renting games or buying them used, either of which the devs/publishers get little to no money.

Whenever I can easily download it and play it on the go with my PSP. I stick with games from the by-gone era of gaming with only a handful of Japanese GBA games in my ROM file.

I'm not made of stone. I have a translated copy of Mother 3, and a few other games that aren't coming out here. I would track down legit copies if I spoke Japanese, but I don't, and I won't be learning anytime soon.
