GoodWill Game Review -Ghosts N Goblins- |
763 views |
![]() The classic Ghosts N Goblins was at my local goodwill for 99 cents. It was in pretty good condition. It smelled a little like smoke but almost everything at goodwill has a smell to it. You could tell it had not been played in a while because the pins needed cleaning but I was happy to find this gem because I did not have it for my collection. This game was released in 1985 and created by Capcom. I remember playing this when I was about 4 or 5 years old at my friend chad’s house. We used to take turns to see how far we could get, we never got passed that first red demon guy. As I play this game as an adult, I find myself falling in love with it again. I believe that this may be to do with my love for it as a child, but I am going to be fair about this review. The story follows Arthur, who as a child I knew as the guy with the suit. A red demon swoops in and jacks his woman (who is a princess) and he goes after her. A simple story, that does not need explanation. This is where you take control of the Arthur. You fight zombies and other horror themed things. You have a javelin to start the massacre of zombies, but you can pick other weapons like a fireball and a knife. The knife works just like the javelin but seems to fire faster. The fireball to me seemed useless. It is a powerful weapon but is slower to fire and goes in an arch instead of straight, it does not work well in close quarters. The level design is OK. The sound is good, but I am love old NES sounds. The game is extremely cheap sometimes. I love contra (this is my closest comparison to GNG) but this make contra feel like a cakewalk. Zombies will spawn on top of you will firing away a zombies in front of you and behind you. As I want to throw the controller at the TV and curse words fly out of my mouth like a Kevin Smith movie, I remember the childhood and how games have changed. It is fun though if you are a fan of contra and never played GNG. I think you would like it. It is on the virtual console for 500 Wii points (5 dollars). I think it is worth it. The final verdict is . I am going to the Goodwill about 45 minutes away but they always have the best stuff. The next review will be . Thanks for reading!
