First Snow/Ice of the Season

On Friday I was asked if I was willing to work during the weekend. When we say we are willing to work the weekend, normally we'd come in on Saturday, and sometimes on Sunday. We can't come in on Sunday instead of Saturday because we get paid more to work on Sunday (we have to work Saturday first to get Sunday's pay). I ended up accepting the offer and came in on Saturday. I really needed to make extra money after all that I spent in my previous pick-up blog post. It was very good I came in on Saturday since I was really needed. I heard there might be some snow flurries later in the day, so I felt it would probably happen when I was heading home. Well, one of my co-workers took a break to smoke outside, he tells me its snowing like crazy outside. I barely believed him because he happens to be from the south. I took a step outside and while I've seen much worse snow before (from where I come from), it was more than I expected. I cringed on having to drive home, but I did (worked from 6am to just after 2pm yesterday).

My car was covered in snow in the parking lot and I had to clean it off. Thankfully there was no ice, just snow. I hoped that on Sunday the snow would be gone and I'd be going to work again. I got up this morning, took a look outside, and there was snow on the ground. I check weather.com in my area and hear there was black ice on the roads. I decided to take care of some things around my apartment and leave around 8am (instead of 6 something). My car is completely covered in ice and snow. I never had to experience taking off mountains of ice off my car before (previously it was always in a garage and I'd avoid going out in winter weather). It was really hard to get it off too. My car doors were frozen and tough to open. After slipping around outside and struggling to get all the snow/ice off my car, I went back inside and decided not to go into work yet.

I'm debating about trying again around 11am (and only go in for 5 hours), but not really sure. Part of me wants to go into work because it gives me something productive to do and I could be making more money (I get 2X pay for Sunday). Part of me whether not risk it and stay inside (I already worked yesterday for 1.5X pay). So I dunno, I'll probably just watch the weather and make up my mind later. It's not like I'm forced to come in today, it's totally up to me.

Regardless, anyone else get hit by snow and/or ice yet (or is about to)? I was hoping we wouldn't have to deal with this until January. Last Sunday it was over 60 degrees too. I thought about posting a picture of how my car looked, but I already cleaned off some of the snow/ice.

Beijing had its first real snowstorm of the season 3 weeks ago. It was terrible because it usually doesn't snow here, so the government really didn't have the means to clean up the snow. It snowed 5 inches, but luckily school was canceled that day, so I didn't have to go outside.

Yea - D.C. area was hit with its first snow of the season this weekend. Normally, I would have taken the opportunity to take the kid out in his first snow (he's 1.5 yrs old), but the kid, mom, and I are all sick with some nasty virus.
