Impulse Buys FTW - Just bought a Laptop

Well, this was definately a huge impulse buy, and to be honest, the money for the laptop will be coming from my savings for school, as I rarely (as in this is the second time) buy something where I didnt have the money in my checking account ready to spend.

Not only that, but many would question why I bought one when I'm moving in like 6 days, but that was one of the major reasons i did.

It was a tough decision, but the reason I decided to pull the trigger (oher then on impulse) are for a few reasons.

A laptop purchase was something i had been thinking about doing since I started work in May. Not only that, but buying a laptop was something I really wanted to buy for when I moved away to attend school where ever it could be (at this time I wasnt sure where my life was going) I didn't really need a new P.C., as my current desktop P.C., albeit 3 years old, and needing some crucial upgrades, really actually has quite a powerful processor and CPU even in today's standards. It had a 2.9 Ghz dual core, which even by today's standards is great. The moniter is a 21 inch LCD screen in great condition. I have speakers and subwoofers for it, an all in one printer, the desktop is loaded with disc drives, burners, ports, and more. The only thing I really needed on it were a 320 Harddrive upgrade and a 4G ram upgrade (as currently I have 60GB HDD and 1GB RAM) Regardless, both would only cost a total of $150, and my P.C. will be very good again.

So long story short, my current desktop really didnt NEED replacing moreso then I just wanted a laptop for personal reasons.

As my move got closer, I started to want a laptop more and more for ease of travel and space, but I don't jump onto big purchases so easily. I'm not a hasty buyer, and I take a long time to make small purchases sometimes (seriously, you should see me comparing potato brands in the grocery store) Needless to say, all summer I held it off, saying how I really didn't need one as I had my desktop.

Well, this week as everything about my move was coming to the peak, I realized how beneficial a laptop would be. My desktop P.C. is big and mongey, and while I don't need a new P.C., being able to have something so portable and easy to travel with and transport pushed me over the edge.

A few hours ago i bought this laptop from amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ss_T15_product

In the past I have bought from Dell, for the ease of building your own system, but I wised up and realized Dell is pretty overpriced. i will admit they can have good deals sometimes, especially if your an EPP member, but most of the year, their prices suck.

I had started looking on newegg for something, and while their prices and selection were very good, I wanted, no, needed something shipped fast so i turned to amazon and looked for the same or similiar models that I liked on newegg.

I eventually found that laptop linked above on amazon, and while a bit more expensive then the p.c. on newegg i was interested in, the one on amazon is a slightly better p.c. (500GB HDD vs 320GB - 2.2GHZ vs 2.1GHZ - more ports, drives, etc) I decided to use my $150 gift certificate I had lying around, and added 1 day shipping for $4.00, and now it's on its way to my house.

---------------

In the end, though it was a very impulsive buy, I'm very glad I made it, as it was something i wanted to do all year, and something i wanted to own specifically for my schooling when I moved. I was really dreading have to UPS ship my P.C. and all the other crap (moniter, printer, accesories) down to AZ, and be out of internet contact for a week or longer. Not only that, but i felt it will be very beneficial space-wise, and I'll be able to bring it with me on the go for school or work. I will keep my desktop at home now till I settle in a more permanent spot in a year or two, but for now, I feel good about the purchase and am very glad I decided to go ahead with it.

My only regret is that I didnt buy one over black friday or earlier when I saw deals. I know I had seen at least two deals on black friday where i would have gotten a very similiar laptop for about $200 less, and I also know of at least 2 instances prior to black friday where deals were held for similiar laptops that would also have been $200-300 less. Alas, I had kept telling myself I really didnt need it, and it took moving craziness to convince me that a laptop was a needed buy. So now i wait for it, and i will update with my impressions when i receive it tomorrow.
