Anyone else dislike different food touching each other on the same plate?

While most of my recent blogs show me turning into a more normal person, I'm going to take a step back and admit one strange thing about me.

For a while, I thought I was the only person in the world who hated different food touching each other on the same plate, but I found out one of my best friends online was the same way, along with my co-worker's nephew. Some might wonder what am I talking about right here? Basically, you are fixing a plate of food for Thanksgiving. Someone places rice, turkey, greens, dinner roll, etc. on the same plate. And when they move the plate around, food may overlap and fall on top of each other. For many years, having various foods touch each other on the same plate disgusts me. I can't explain why, but it does. Its like it alters the taste of the food, or appearance of the food (like make it soggy, add crumbs to it, etc.). That is why when I my parents were putting food on my plate or myself, I'd place everything on separate plates. All the food I mentioned at Thanksgiving, I'd put Turkey on one plate, rice in one bowl, rice on another plate, etc. I don't like to mix my food when eating either, I tend to prefer eating one thing at a time in a particular order. When I go to KFC, I tend to eat potato wedges first, followed by my popcorn chicken. Some places I eat the chicken first, then eat the fries. NEVER do I alternate the food. Only time I may switch the order around is if one portion is too hot. I remember knowing people in grade school who would stir all food from their cafeteria plate together. That would make me want to puke every time I see that.

Some might wonder what I do when a restaurant I go to places different food on a plate together, especially food I don't like. It makes me feel like I'm going to die if I eat something I don't like mixed together or touching my food. For an example, I don't care for pickles. If a restaurant places a pickle or something on the side of my plate, I instantly send the plate back and have them give me new food. I don't want my food tasting like food I really dislike. One time a restaurant put something I did not like under my fries (years ago when I was a kid). It made me hurl out my food and I still have that funny taste in my mouth until this day. That's one reason I'm not a big fan of eating at new restaurants, since I don't know what they may put on my plate. I tend to like my food plain, just meat and fries. My favorite restaurant where I use to live would place my hamburger steak on one plate, my fries in a basket, so there was never an issue. I even can't stand it if packaged stuff is touching my food. I like getting dinner rolls and pancakes at Bob Evans, but I hate it when packages of butter are touching or too close to them (I eat pancakes and rolls without butter). Sometimes what I do is cut off or not eat the food on the side of my plate touching what I don't like near my food.

I had something else on my mind relating to food, but I forgot. On top of my picking eating and feeling uncomfortable eating around other people (which I blogged about over a year ago), this is another weird thing about me when it comes to food. Yeah I might sound like a kid here, but its tough to overcome this issue.

Oh yeah, some people might want to know how I eat pancakes/waffles with syrup. Well, I dislike putting syrup on top of them because it makes it all mushy and nasty after a while, so I put it on the side and dip them in a little syrup.

You thought you were the only one? There are tons and tons of people like that.

I hate that too and everyone always rips on me for it.

It sometimes bugs me, but not most of the time it doesn't.

yeah it doesn't bug me and i can't co-sign on it but you're far from alone. Personally even if they put the pickle on my fries (and i hate pickles as well) I still eat it. Sending food back is an iffy prospect I've come to gather.

So, you don't like KFC famous bowls?
I hate it when my mashed potatoes seem to find the way to my cranberry sauce during Thanksgiving dinner. Every year! I purposely put turkey between the two, but they still find a way to get it on and make me disgusted. Thats the only time I hate it though, when sweet mixes with a savory.

I used to be like that as a kid. Also, I would have to have a separate eating utensil for each item (one spoon for mashed potatoes, one spoon for corn, one fork for chicken)

I grew out of that pretty easily though, and I'm not bothered by anything mentioned above (although I do remember kids mixing everything together during lunchtime, it made me want to gag too).

Maybe you'll grow out of it someday, too.

My parents gave me a huge cafeteria-esque plate with sections for each food item. To this day, we're all convinced that's why I don't like unlike foods to touch each other.
I understand your madness.

Though I personally do not mind as much with foods fighting over plate space. Well it depends on the food, though I usually only have food I would eat on a plate. I also mix things together and tend to alternate between different foods (burger, fries, chicken, drink, etc).

Sending food back just because a pickle was there is a bit crazy. I too hate pickles, but seriously you can't deal with that so you rather get a new plate with some spit on the food (or so other nasty stuff thrown in)?
Depends on the food for me. I'm fine with gravy from my mash potatoes touching the rice and turkey. It tastes much better actually. However, I try really hard not to mix up my ketchup + fries with the corn. I don't know what it tastes like, but it looks pretty nasty.

I have begin to really love your blogs. But I do not have a problem with my foods touching. I could not live without burritos.

Don't understand it, but whatever makes you happy i guess.

I could eat pretty much any meal from a blender. Plus, it would leave me more free time if I could just drink my meals down real quick! Hmmm....

Lol. This blog is almost as funny as the daily ha-ha. I prefer not to have gravy running into cranberry sauce, but its still the same delicious food going into the same place.

I like dv8's blender idea! More free time to find more deals!

Turkey + stuffing + potatoes + gravy + cranberries = HOW TO DO IT. Just throw that all into a sandwich for me.

Stirring food together is disgusting, but having the foods touch each other on the plate is pure goodness to me, especially at Thanksgiving.

This... aside from the sandwich part. I wish the Thanksgiving leftovers weren't gone.:(

I agree completely with dv8mad.

I don't mind my food touching at all (just had noodles, peas, and cheese all in one bowl), however I tend to eat things in order if separated. I usually eat one item and then move onto the next when it's done. Not sure why, its just habit.

I recall being like this with my corn and bbq chicken. Well, more like the juice of the corn. It didn't really bother me then, just kind of bugged me.

Doesn't really effect me at all now, although I still get pissed when the stuff in my burger (or other like items) keeps getting pushed out towards the back.
Yeah, I actually do not like food mixing with each other either. It is too common at some family gatherings that I have to eat mixed food. I hope that it does not happen to me because I might have to politely reject the food that I am given to eat.
I think you may have OCD.
