Things I hate about drinks at restaurants (along with other drink weirds)

Well, whenever I go to fast food places or restaurants, I tend to buy some sort of combo meal that comes with a drink. Well, I do enjoy the taste of fountain drinks (unlike my Dad who hates fountain drinks), but there's one thing that ruins the taste of them. I absolutely hate it when they put WAY too much ice in my drink. I don't care if its hot outside, I just hate it when they put too much ice. I hate having too much ice because it gives me very little soda/pop to drink, so I end up getting thirsty quick. I also have to drink my soda/pop quite fast or the ice will melt. IMO, the taste of ice cubes melted and sofa/pop (especially with Pepsi) tastes nasty. I normally end up throwing my drink away after that. I probably should order a drink with no ice when I'm out, but I start to think they'll think I'm weird if I request it. That's why I tend to love fast food places where I can make my own drink (where I put in very little ice and tons of soda/pop). At restaurants, the more ice I'm given, the more refills I tend to order. Now I don't mind ice melted with water much, but I just don't like it with soda/pop.

While I'm on the subject of liquids, I hate it when Burger King or wherever I order the drink at is out of the sweetener or whatever that goes into fountain drinks. A few times I ordered a drink and it tasted like beer. Normally I just ask to order something else, but that hasn't happened to me for many years.

I also hate it when soda/pop taste flat. When I've opened a can of Pepsi or bottle of Ginger Ale/Pepsi/Sprite/etc., when I don't hear/see any fizz, I can pretty much assume the drink is going to taste like crap. Sometimes I throw it out, sometimes I drink with lots of caution and barely finish it. One reason I hate drinking 2 liter bottles or putting a can of soda/pop back in the refrigerator is because it will go flat after a short time due to being opened already. So I just stick to cans and small bottles, so I don't have any issues.

Also, while some might not have paid too close attention, I feel the very last bit of soda/pop in a can/bottle tends to not taste too well. Kind of has a flat taste, so sometimes I don't take that final sip to completely clean the can/bottle. I don't know if anyone noticed, but I have.

I also just can't drink stuff warm, but like it a little cold. That's why I keep my stuff in the refrigerator. Personally, I don't believe in using ice with soda/pop that comes from a can/2 liter bottle (can't really say why). I just feel it should be drank as is. But if I were to have a drink of alcohol, then I'd rather pour some into a cup/glass mixed with something.

Eh, not much for me to say here, but I just really hate it when ice melts in my drink and alters the taste. I'll admit it somewhat hurt the Captain & Coke I had mixed together almost 2 weeks ago (when out with friends). Anyone else hate it when there's too much ice in your drink? And does anyone else notice the taste of flat soda/pop.

Just order it with lite ice. Its more common than you think.
It is quite common to order without ice at restaurant (fast food and sit down). Also Captain Morgan & Coke is a strong drink. You normally would have to put very little ice if any for that drink. It would definitely dilute the drink for you and it will not taste good.

Water is healthy.

I absolutely HATE too much ice with any kind of cola. By the time I'm 3 quarters done it, it has this really bad taste. It's almost like drinking carbonated water with a slight taste of cola; just disgusting. For some reason though, I don't mind drinking pop warm. It has just never bothered me.

I always say no ice... most fast food places have a button for it on their register, it seems pretty common

You realize that sugary stuff like soda just make you more thirsty, not less, right? Listen to Shrapnellistic.

Yeah, I just get no ice at fastfood places. At restaurants though, most places do free refills so I really don't care, as long as I get a second by the time I'm about "halfway" done with my current drink.
Ya, Mana. I order stuff with lil ice cause i hate too much ice or too cold as i have a sensative tooth.

Keep the blogs coming
just say no ice, plain and simple or very little ice works too. I usually say that and either or works fine. Watch out for sonic though they put alot of ice. hmm happy hour

When I eat at fast food places I usually end up having a to order what I want plain so asking for no ice is no big deal. I also stay away from soda. start drinking more water and you will feel better and healthier. Like others have said just ask for no ice or a little ice. Typically the soda is already cold enough for me without ice.

Too much ice is intentional. It's an industry design to give you less soda. It's just like the way the McDonald bros introduced mass production so they could hire cheaper cooks.

I'm inclined to think some of this stuff is psychosomatic. If you had said the last gulp tasted sweet I could see an argument for settling and improper mixing but flat? Unlikely that a can would go flat in the time that you're drinking it.

What I'm curious about is when you open a container and you don't hear the fizz? Yeah that might indicate a degree of flatness but I've never seen that in an unopened container before. That would be crazy. I would actually check the container because either a) it was never properly packaged or b) there's a hole which would be accidental and/or dangerous.

As far as the fountain stuff goes I tend to find it too sweet so I'm ok with a little bitof ice. As it melts it dilutes the sugar syrup to an ideal concentration.

@ The_Spaceman, it's because I'm addicted to Pepsi. I once posted a blog about it over a year ago (although pictures were removed): http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=2972

While I drink water, I can't go a day without soda/pop.
always ask for no ice if it's not self serve drinks in fast food.

for restaurants, just ask for ice in the glasses not the pitcher or whatever. if you order individual drinks, it shouldn't matter since usually it would be free refills.

My theory is: I pay for the drink, not the ice. Leave it out for all I care, fountain soda is cold!

I hate when people make blog posts where every sentence starts with 'I hate when...'

Why the do you keep saying soda/pop? It's called soda here bro.

Also, you're scared of asking for no ice cuz they think you'll weird? Why the would you care about what anyone thinks about you?
The Mana Knight's Avatar
@PhrostByte, where I'm last from it was mostly pop (that's what I said). I'm trying to get use to soda. I usually say both.

Lol, I try to be as normal as possible in public places.

I order drinks with no ice all of the time, even at nice restaurants and they don't blink an eye about it.
