So this is my first blog post. I hope it isn't too bad, but who knows how it will end up. Any advise on how to make them better would be awesome. So here we go.
2009 was a pretty good year for gaming. Not only were there plenty of new games coming out that were great, but I also had some great late pick ups. These include Bioshock, GTA4, and Fallout 3. But lets focus on games of 2009. This whole year I only made one bad purchase for new games, and that was Prototype. Don't get me wrong, I loved that game, but it should've been a rental. But I digress. Here are my top 3 games of 2009. These are in no particular order because I couldn't choose a favorite. Batman Arkham Asylum This game blew me away. Everything about this game was spectacular. Now I should say that I am a huge comic book fan, so my opinion might be a bit biased. But like i said, it was amazing. I never thought that an actually good Batman, or any superhero game would come out. I sure was wrong. Everything done in this game showed that the developer not only cared about the game, but also that they cared about keeping Batman, Batman. There was never a time when I felt that Batman or any character was acting out of his or her personality. What was most shocking about this game though is that it is the only game in history that I have set out to find of the collectables for. Here's to hoping the sequel can live up to the greatness of the first. Borderlands Yet another sleeper hit. Who honestly expected this game to be as good as it is? I sure as hell didn't. The mix of shooter and RPG is so well done that I would even put it in its own genre. I could go on and on about how tight the shooting mechanics are, but I really loved the leveling you got in this game. As I leveled up not only did I feel a great deal of accomplishment, but I could feel my character getting stronger. The weapon proficiency was also great. I liked that you got better with a gun by using it and not just putting XP points into that category like in Fallout 3. My only gripe about this game was the story. There was none. The little bit of the story there was had to be read and when given the to to read or shoot things, I never read. Also the ending of the game with just killing the monster was one of the worst endings in a game I have ever played. But Border lands makes of for all of this and more by letting me shoot midgets in the face. Thank you Gearbox Assassin's Creed 2 Last, but not least, is Assassin's Creed 2. I was one of those people who loved the first one. I thought the core gameplay and story were brilliant. I thought the ending was the best ending of a game i have ever seen. I love a god cliff hanger and they sure as hell provided on the first game. I couldn't help but think that Ubisoft Montreal would make the same mistake of repetition in the sequel though. Once again I was wrong. The game's main missions were varied and a lot of fun. I never felt like i was grinding through the main story missions to get to the ending. The side missions were also great. I especially liked the assassination tombs. The puzzles tested mind and skill but were never too hard. The idea of the monetary system was great. I thought that by adding money to buy items and hire groups was great. The problem though was that getting rich was as easy as it is to find a bad mini-game collection for the Wii. Even though they had a broke economy, the combat was fixed. I was pleasantly surprised that I couldn't just counter and beat a group of 20 guards. But the best part of the game in my opinion was the story. I really liked Ezio's story line. I was constantly wondering what is going to happen next. But even better was the Desmond story. I don't want to spoil anything but the ending of that game is my new favorite and i already can't wait for number 3. So there you have it. My first blog post and my favorites of 2009. I hope you enjoy and i hope to write more in 2010. |

You are destroying this website and changing it into something. We don't need your socialist fascist communist manifesto with your czars. Get the hell out of here and go back to Kenya.

@IRHari, please explain to me how I am destroying this website. At what point did I bring up my political beliefs in my post? Although yes my name shows my beliefs, I am at no point pushing my beliefs on anyone. I, Like most people on this site, am talking about video games and the video game industry.

Pretty sure IRHari was joking. If not he's just dumb
Nice list, errors did bother the editor side of me, but the content was solid. I only played one of the three (Batman) but your remarks about it are dead on, leading me to believe I'd like the other two as well. I do want to play them, but... so much to play. |
