My Wii love have gone WAY up

Well, while I know CAG member RchrdJ (a friend of mine) started a blog about the resurgence of Wii in his household, that actually seems to be the same case for me (although slightly different). There's no denying over the years, my Wii has mostly been ignored since I'm sucked into HD graphics, fancy online stuff PS3/360 has (such as seeing what all my friends are playing), and I haven't been a huge fan of motion controls. However, that's all starting to change based on what I've gone back to pick up, what I'm currently playing, and what I look to buy in the near future.

Right now I've been picking up some older Wii games I've found for cheap. For an example, House of the Dead Overkill be $13 on Amazon made me buy it. Also picked up Castle Shikigami 3 for $10 at GameStop a few months ago. Muramasa was picked up in late October (although I'll admit I haven't invested a lot of time into it yet). I'm quite interesting in picking up Rune Factory, a few DDR games (already own Hottest Party), and plan to look into many games. Its like many Wii games I want outside of some Nintendo first party games are quite cheap right now (where I'm willing to buy them and take a chance). I'm even tempted to try out Dead Space Extraction due to seeing the deal on Amazon. Oh yeah, I forget, kind of tempted to try RE: Darkside Chronicles (whatever the name is) and Phantom Brave: We Meet Again.

My Wii play time has increased exponentially, and its really because of one game....New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Honestly, I didn't know what to expect after hearing some people dislike the game, along with me really not liking New Super Mario Bros. on DS. My older sister got the game and complained how hard it was. As a kid I was a HUGE Mario fan, especially Super Mario Bros. 3 and World. After that, I never got as big into Mario again outside of a few Kart games, Super Mario 64, and Super Mario Galaxy. New Super Mario Bros. Wii has brought the Mario love back in me. It really feels like I'm playing a new version of Super Mario World/Bros. 3 with all the cool costumes/items. Levels are tons of fun to play. I love seeing the Koopa kids again. If there's any game that brought the love in me again I use to have for Nintendo, its the game. I even feel like buying more Mario stuff all because of the game. While I have yet to play multi-player (I live alone), I just really enjoy the game. New Super Mario Bros. on DS felt too much like the original Super Mario (while the original Super Mario Bros. was good, no where near as great as the 3rd and World IMO). Also, my sister got me Wii Sports Resort for Christmas. And while I did play Wii Sports more than most (although not a ton), I am glad she got my Resort anyway. Bowling is still fun to play and I am enjoying basketball (that's because I play basketball). Previously, my Wii just had its best times when I was playing NiGHTs/Super Mario Galaxy early on, then Mario Kart Wii, then kind of went forgotten. I also plan to work on Tales of Symphonia: Dawn New World more.

But the main reason my Wii love is really increasing has to do with recent/future releases. My copy of Sky Crawlers should arrive soon, which I'm really excited to play since I love anime/Ace Combat. There's also Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All Stars coming out this month, which I have slight interests in (only thing that holds me back is maybe it being too much like Marvel vs. Capcom, which I don't like all that much compared to all of Capcom's other fighters, but then again I've never really been a Marvel fan either). No More Heroes: DS coming out seems great too (I have yet to play NMH, but I'm keeping an eye out on it). Fragile, Sakura Wars: My Love (beyond huge game for me), Arc Rise Fantasia (beyond huge for me), Monster Hunter Trii, Super Mario Galaxy 2, and others make me very glad to own a Wii right now. Also glad about demos appearing on Wii Ware. Speaking of Wii Ware, lots I still need to pick up like all the Konami remakes, FFIV The After, World of Goo, etc.

While my love may not be as high as the PS3 this year, I do see it being my number 2 most played platform this year. I might even own more Wii games than 360 games by the end of the year. As long as the games I buy do well, I'll start exploring more Wii games to pick up. I really wish more of the cool Japanese games came stateside, such as Fatal Frame IV.

Anyone else seeing more Wii games they want coming out in the near future (along with recent releases)?

I mostly wrote this because rarely do I post a gaming related blog, and most of my blogs tend to be heavily PlayStation related when I post something gaming related. Who knows, I might buy a DSi sometime and get back into the DS (because I do want Kingdom Hearts badly, but I hate to add more platforms to buy games on).

You should consider purchasing Silent Hill Shattered Memories. It's quite good. Also, it's not like the other Silent Hill games; Shattered Memories is more of an adventure game than a survival horror game.

If you are unsure about Shattered Memories, then check out either Giant Bomb quick look on the game. These videos give you a great feel for how the game plays. The first quick look is the beginning of the game, and the second quick look picks up from where the first quick look ends.

Crap, thanks for reminding me about that game. That's another which is definitely on my mind.

Nice blog Mana, I've been meaning to play Tales of Symphonia. Hopefully I'll get to it soon. I also need to play No More Heroes. My only problem is that I really dislike the Wii control scheme, it just bugs me a lot. It's ironic though as I am left handed and the Wii is supposedly to be the only true left hand compatible game console :/

Glad you liked the Mario game. I've been playing my Wii a little more as well. Mostly Brawl every now, and then with a friend.

Just picked up Shattered Memories. Got my wife NSMB over the holidays and she loved it. We had moved our gaming setup from the living room to the bedroom and I moved it waaay last because of NSMB. Now that's it hooked up again, looking to finish Madworld, Punchout and get started on Shattered Memories. Pick up any of those and Klonoa. Playing that is like going back to my high school days. The sweet aroma of nostalgia.

The Wii is a great system but for the amount of consoles sold you would figure there to be even more higher quality games.

I think if Nintendo had more online features (Chat like XBLA and what not) and their own form of "achievements" (Like how Brawl has all those trophies) I would get more into some of the games.

Silent Hill is supposed to be an amazing game and it will most likely be better experience on the Wii as giant bomb shown (Wii Speaker makes it more creepy, and the flash light control is great.) so while It's a multiplatform game It's a pretty much must buy if you own a Wii.

I'm sure between Silent Hill, Capcom vs and No More Heroes 2 I'll be convinced to keep on chuggin' with my Wii. While I play my 360 a stupid amount the Wii is still a great side system.

I'm looking forward to Arc Rise and Fragile too. Don't forget Tales of Graces (whenever that comes out).

I think it is safe to say that New Super Mario Bros Wii caused a lot of people to blow the dust off of the Wii.

I was looking forward to Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All Stars but the game seems to have a simplistic fighting system and I'm not to keen on purchasing a fight stick for one game. Of course that being said I hope I am proven wrong about TvC otherwise I will just wait and pick it up on clearance at TRU.

The only Wii games I am actually looking forward to are the first party holy trinity of Mario, Zelda and Metroid.

@willardhaven, I BADLY want ToG, just hope it comes stateside (Namco is iffy with Tales, I still want ToV PS3).

You need to purchase Dead Space Extraction. I'm about 1/3 of the way through and I think it is fantastic. I'm excited about Tatsunoko vs. Capcom too although I'll wait until it drops in price since I played the Japanese version quite a bit. I just received Grand Slam Tennis in the mail from Goozex and for me it might get the Wii fired back up again.

ya know i cant just get into my wii system. I beat Muramasa and I finished Metroid Prime 1 of the trilogy. I also beat New Super Mario Bros and then I went to find another game that interest me and i lost. I keep the system on the hopes they make another good zelda game one day.
Dead Space Extraction is good but really slow at times with progressing the story. Although this is a good horror 'on rails' game it is fun. Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles is a good game too.

I have only recently started to play Wii games again.
I know that a lot of people here aren't big on the Wii, but any self-proclaimed gamer who ignores the system is delusional. There are so many good and CHEAP titles worth playing on Wii that skipping out on it entirely would be foolish.

House of the Dead Overkill isn't something I'd pay $50 or $60... but $13? Heck yes! Same goes for a whole raft of sub-$20 games that are an absolute blast. No More Heroes, Zack & Wiki, Blastworks, Boom Blox, Dawn of Discovery, de Blob, MadWorld, RE:Umbrella Chronicles, Dead Space Extraction, Wario Land, Excitebots, Fire Emblem, Trauma Center... That's a lot of gaming bang for the buck!

You should definitely check out No More Heroes, it can be had for pretty cheap now. NMH 2 is one of the few games I'm really excited for.

I would've expected you to get the PS2 version of Sakura Wars for the second disc with the original audio.
The Mana Knight's Avatar
@ surak, PS2 is very dead to me and I just never play it. If I bought Sakura Wars on PS2, I'd ignore it. That's why I'm getting it on Wii.
