Walmart Woes :(

![]() Backstory: I went to the Manassas, VA Walmart two days ago to pick up a few things, including one of those plastic mats that you put down on your carpet to help make the computer chair move better. I found a cheap one for around 6 bucks. I didn't need anything big but this one looked like someone unrolled it and tried to put it back into place and the paper strap holding it in place was torn up a bit. It didn't matter to me because I was going to straighten it out anyways. I take it up to the counter and it rings up 12.xx . I told the cashier that there is a sign saying that it's 6 bucks. The other gentleman who looks like he was a trainer asks me to go with him to show him where he saw it for that price. After a few minutes of us looking for the one that was 6 bucks, he decided to take the tag from the shelf and said he was going to give it to me for 6 bucks even thought there was no way to prove that this was the 6 dollar one. They didn't have anymore in the back and I didn't want a bigger one because the room I am in is small anyways. He rings me up and manually types in the code from the shelf tag (not the item itself) and rings up the other items that I had in my cart. I asked if I had any problems with the mat, could I bring it back and if so would there be a problem. He went to Customer service and they said no problem to return it. So I take it home and put it aside until the next night when I decided to lay it out. I realized that the mat was way too long for my room (it's a very small room) so I decided to return it. [Today] Today I took the mat back to the Walmart. I then realized that I brought the wrong receipt from a different date, but thought to myself, I have the card, I know the person who rang me up, time, register and so on so it shouldn't be a problem. I was WRONG :( This lady by the name of Jessica told me that she will try to see if a Manager "wants to help me out". She takes off and comes back asking me to give details of that purchase (date, time, amount, etc) then goes back to the manager to pull the ticket. While I waited, I decided to go back to the section I got it from to pull the tag. Guess what? The tag is GONE :( A few minutes pass by and there is a bunch of managers who come to CS and start bitching to the CS and starts talking about me right infront of me saying "without a UPC I dunno if it came from my store..". I told her that I understood what she is saying but telling her that the cashier who had a name tag of "Uncle Bernie" was the one who rung me up and he was the one who manually entered this information. Nelli who was the Assistant manager said they have no one working there by that name, then the other manager corrected her saying "it's Shawn..".......... OK... Anyways I am in a tight pickle as I don't have the barcode because it wasn't given to me by "uncle bernie" so there is no way to prove it. So the managers take off and I don't hear squat from them for several minutes. All of a sudden right infront of me two of Jessica's co-workers started bitching at her saying "You shouldn't bother the managers for a 6 dollar item." They say it in such a way that it was really mean to her. Nelli comes back and brings another roll of another mat and tells Jessica to do a no receipt, gift card only which was fine. It comes up to like 10 something but I told the manager that the mat was 6 dollars and she said , just take it. I could tell Jessica was really upset and started crying and asked to talk to Nelli after my transaction. I really felt sorry for her and told her she did nothing wrong and that she was doing a good job and that her co-workers shouldn't give her a hard time about this. After my transaction was completed I thanked her and apologized for any trouble this caused and said "you know what, I am going to clean this up for you right now!" I went back to Nelli and gave her my side of the story saying she was just trying to help me out and so on and of course Nelli was bitching saying that she's been a manager for 20 years and that Jessica had been working there for 5 years and that the customer service people weren't doing their job and had to bother me (Nelli) for such a small thing. Yes I agree it wasn't something to bother a manager for, but come on leave the girl a lone. I did ask another manager for a complement card , in which she looked at me like I was crazy. She went back and got a comment card to be sent back so I filled it out saying how well I was treated by Jessica and how I did not like how her fellow co-workers and managers bitched at her infront of customers like that for this situation. I honestly feel like calling Walmart HQ right now and reporting this. Yea I know there is a lot of bitching that happens behind the scenes, but it's NOT a good idea to let customers see this. I feel bad for Jessica. I doubt she is going to lose her job or anything but still. |

I have never liked Wal-Mart for many reasons. One of them being that they don't give a shit about people, customers or workers.
This is the only good thing Wal-Mart has given the world. http://www.peopleofwalmart.com/ |

I commend you for talking to the manager and attempting to straighten things out. I think you should contact Walmart HQ just to let them know the, while I doubt that any kind of disciplinary action will be taken against Jessica I think that those managers will still walk all over their associates if nothing is done.

This story was actually a bit weird to me. I work at Sam's Club which is owned by Wal-mart. (Cuz the founder was Sam Walton. Get it!? LOLOLOLOLOLAWL!) But yeah, I work at the customer service desk, so again, I'm used to all the situations that come up. Somebody else that works with me, her name is Jessica. It's so familar!!!
But yeah, it's a strange circumstance regarding your thing. The guy who rang you up should have just price adjusted the mat you bought instead of putting the item number of the other thing. Also, as for the price tag, they get rid of misprice/misplaced tags so theres no chance of something else like that happening. And since there were no more of the item, there was no reason to print another one. |

honestly, you're wrong for it partially because you did not have your original receipt...well no receipt at all actually. it's a small item yes $6 but that doesn't mean they should give anyone at all any crap and shouldn't talk aloud like that. as a manager myself, there are times when i'm asked silly questions or questions that can have an easy answer and an employee can do on their own but it is the managers job to oversee, supervise and assist/help all employees and customers. I don't care what store/company it is because that is customer service and also good for your co workers. I bet those managers are now going to be frowned upon and actions like that make employees feel like crap so therefor, they work slow and sloppy so now you know how it reflects on all. You should just get the original receipt and make a complaint but don't know if it'll do much really. Hey, you made a profit off of your return..

I have no beef with Walmart myself.
I am a bit confused. They yelled at her in front of you, then you waited till they said what they wanted and said something about it. Given the way you wrote about the situation I'm a bit surprised you didn't just interrupt them. That said. It was a crappy situation. Should have had you receipt, but didn't and wanted to see if you could get something done anyhow. That's cool save on gas, been there done that. Personally I disagree about not "bothering" the manager. If it was a 10 dollar item and you were trying to get the 6 you payed back, it seems getting the manager is the RIGHT thing to do so that when someone goes back over this it doesn't look like she stiffed you and you might come back and complain or something. Walmart takes Walmart stuff without a receipt for store credit you did nothing wrong. If they dont like it, cut the deal. P.S. This isn't a Walmart thing, This stuff goes on at all stores. |
