My Jan. 2010 Pick-Ups (WAY less stuff due to large important payments. :( )

Pretty much everyone was probably expected a Mana Kight pick-up blog post, but it took me a while to make one. This is probably one of my lesser spending months of stuff I buy for fun. Main reasons are not many games releases I cared about, me wanting to work on my backlog more, and I had many big payments to make (My electric bill doubled, auto insurance for 6 months, optometrist bill, vehicle repair, etc.). I also worked 20 days in a row for a lot of hours, so I didn't have a lot of time to shop around malls and stuff. Regardless, I picked up a variety of stuff in January.

First off, I know I'll get lots of hate fo buying Bayonetta on PS3, but I did it because my 360 just might be dying soon unfortunately (didn't want to go without playing Bayonetta) and I wanted to use the PS3 controller. Plus, it didn't look too bad to me (just loading was a bit annoying, but the patch addresses it. Previously, my eyes weren't that great to tell differences). I did end up beating the game and really enjoying it. Also got Assasin's Creed for PSP, mostly because its cheap and I do enjoy Assasin's Creed games. Haven't had much chance to play it.

I traded in one 360 game to get Borderlands for $20 at GameStop (used credit I had for trading in games a bit ago). It was actually hard debating between PS3/360 version (because of friends), but the PS3 version ended up edging out due to some friends buying it. While I was a bit skeptical about the game (I'm not a big fan of FPS and open world games), I like it and played with The_Grimance and JMEPO online. Sky Crawlers is cool, but only had the chance to play once. Played HotD Overkill once (got for $13 on Amazon). Froze midway through the game the first time, 2nd time I beat the first episode. Kind of feel the need to get a Nyko Blaster for the game. I bought a $20 PSN Card for sale items and Vandal Hearts. I bought FFTA2 although I don't currently own a DS, but its a game I want and it was only $7.48 at Target. I also got TVC (arrived today despite preordering it), but haven't put the game in yet. Outside of game buying, I did beat Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 on PS3. Awesome game, tough to say whether I prefer that or Bayonetta.

Outside of games, I started purchasing some anime DVDs. Due to longer work days, I've been in the mood to just relax more and watch something (instead of game playing). That's why I bought a Gundam SEED set (use to have many episodes recorded onto a DVR on my old PC), but lost many of them. Currently going through re-watching it. Just got Gundam Wing and Eureka Seven (other anime I love) in the mail too, but will watch them later (although I've seen them before). I definitely expect much more anime buying in my future (I won't just get old stuff). The anime was only $37 each (Gundam Wing was $42).

Outside of anime, I made a few random purchases such as Sony CD-R's for $11.74 at Costco. I was down to 1 blank CD-R, and since I have to use them to copy over files for certain things (and my car only has a CD player), I needed more of them. In reality I only needed 10-20 discs, but felt it was best to spend an extra $2 and get 100 of them. adriley313 told me about the deal. I bought a micro SD set and converters, mostly because my digital camera still only had a 16MB SD card (lol, now up to 2GB). I wanted a micro SD for my cell phone, and I wanted my night out pics from my friend who needed converters. I also bought a pair of ear phones for $9. I needed a pair since my PSP ones were too short to use on my computer (and computers at work). Just wanted a pair that did the job, not an expensive pair. The MicroSD and headphones were cheap and used as filler items, lol (although I needed them).

I also purchased a bunch of clothing. I've been wanting to overhaul my wardrobe a bit. I've always like AE (American Eagle) clothing, just haven't bought any new stuff from them since 2004. I decided to shop during their clearance and got great deals. The first picture set, I got two hoodies (it was buy one, get one half off) and a pair of cargo pants (all clearance stuff was an additional 30% off). I only paid around $36 after tax for all that stuff. I went to another AE, purchased two more hoodies (same deal, but got an extra 50% off of clearance), so I paid $18 after tax. I will check other AE stores for more clothes. May also buy some Hollister and others. Some might wonder why I dress this way (when I'm not wearing my gaming/anime or sports teams stuff), but its because I grew to liking the clothes based on where I grew up. Also got a new hat. The jeans were just bought to go with various T-Shirts I wear (used the last bit of my Macy's giftcard to get them).

While I probably should have left it out, I posted my new glasses only because I think they are pretty cool (I didn't pick them out, the people at the eye doctor felt they looked great on me, and I agree). While they may be a bit small, I like wearing them overall since they help me see well on the computer, play games, and drive at night. Not posting my other pick-ups like my crazy high electric bill, Turbo Tax software, snow shovel, and other necessary things.

Feb. is a big month for games, so hopefully I'll be able to get most of what I want and don't have unexpected payments (although I expect another high electric bill, and my apartment rent increases soon). Good thing is I have a ton of GameStop credit after trading in a bunch of games last night that just didn't suit me (as a hint, open world related games, although Borderlands was kept, just because they didn't do too great with me). I don't see as many clothing purchases or anime purchases, just a few games.

Anyway, these were my pick-ups (although less spent and fewer). I'm planning to take some time off this weekend to enjoy the stuff (along with maybe spend more time with friends).

Also, it appears my CAG profile has reached 5000 views.

TMk, did you do your tax return yet? I think you should get some money back.

Cool pick-ups and nice frames. Looking forward to reading about your impressions for AC: Bloodlines and House of the Dead: Overkill.

I have only got around to playing the first chapter in HotD, but it is hilariously vulgar. Even more so than I had expected. Enjoy!

your next pickup should be a ds for FFTA2. It is awesome, except that I have been stuck on the same main story quest for probably 3 months.

Cool glasses. I like the print on the side. I need a new pair of glasses and was thinking about getting something like those.

How crazy was your electric bill? I know the company we use gas and electric estimates our usage for 2 months and then the 3rd month we pay the actual amount. The first 2 months are between $40-45 and then the 3rd month is $50-55.

And why is your rent going up? Did you have a 1 year lease? Has it been a year already?

Out of all the things you bought.. TvC is the only game I would play, if I actually owned a Wii.

@hero101, I still have yet to file it. I might get around it this weekend or next.

@Swift900, same situation for me, but I'll get around to playing more one day, lol. Could be today, could be 10 months from now.

@raraar, I'll take care of it later, just that the bills/unexpected purchases have hurt a little. I rather not spend money all at once (rather balance).

@PenguinoMF, mine says actual usage, but who knows. My bill went from $70, to $77, to $92, to $178. Its only for electric usage (no gas). I signed a 9 month lease, ended soon. I got an awesome deal. While my rent went up, still way less than most places.

we will have to play some more borderlands when you get the chance. I enjoyed our talk nevertheless as well.

Whoa! I don't know how much other people pay for electric (this is first apartment that I have to pay electric) but that seems extreme for just 1 person that works everyday. Unless you have a dryer and/or electric stove.
