A little backstory: I ended up picking up BioShock at a Blockbuster B1G1 (yep, that long ago) and my plan was to just trade it in for some nice credit. I then decided since I have it, I might as well just play it.

Many months later lol...

I ended up playing about 5 hours of BioShock last night (this isn't indicative of how far I got) and I can honestly say... it's not that bad. I never imagined myself playing this since I don't play many shooters and I tend to shy away from survival horror and this seemed like a mishmash of both with some good old fashioned Objectivism as a framework.

My stats so far:
Hours in: ~5
Achievements: 9/51
Currently: just defeated my first Rosie Big Daddy

Not really smart, but I decided to do a one playthrough achievement run so no vitachambers and hard mode. I'm getting owned a lot definitely buy something tells me that when I get the grenade launcher things will change...

The game is definitely creepy. The late '50s vibe with the dystopic environment with corpses and blood strewn all over sets a serious mood. I was playing with the GF half watching half websurfing and she mentioned that she wouldn't play alone because the splicer dialogue alone would have just made her shut it off. I admit that some of the splicers did creep me out as well.

Running across a female splicer fawning over a baby carriage made me think the worst. When I discovered it was a gun I really felt weirded out. In the Medical Pavilion in the dentist's office where the mist periodically fills the room... and I turn around and meet a splicer right in front of me. I admit I had to pause the game for a minute and chill out lol.

All and all at the rate I'm going I might beat this either late tonight or tomorrow afternoon and I foresee myself enjoying the ride.

So far.

I wish I could experience playing "Bioshock" for the first time again. The atmosphere lends a lot to the game, not to mention all the characters that the player encounters along the way.

Don't cheat yourself out of a good experience--play it all the way through!

The big "twist" at the end will really make everything make sense!

Bioshock is a great game, using the security bullseye plasmid and failing hacks on machines so bots are released is a big help taking down enemies.

I had a chance to play Bioshock a month ago and really enjoyed the adventure. Simplistic gameplay with great sound and visuals made the game worthwhile. I pre-ordered the second and expect it to come on release date. Cannot wait.

I find it odd that you called a game as critically and commercially successful as Bioshock "not that bad". That said, I played the demo a week ago, and have been looking for a PS3 copy ever since. I didn't have a 360 when it came out, and I never knew what I was missing.

Recommendation: Avoid any news about bioshock or bioshock 2. There are a few plot developments in the story of bioshock that will probably be revealed in any of the articles related to bioshock 2.

I loved the game and electric gel with buckshot will own anything in the game!
Thanks for reading

@GraftonWVDiskExchang
I definitely plan on finishing it. I like the story so far and I think the experience is going to get better.

@blissskr
Thanks for the tip. I need all I can get for hard mode lol.

@Ichigo1993
I admit that the sequel coming out did make me try out the first one and I might pick up the second one because of the fun I'm having.

@Chairman_LMAO
That only because the latter two hours of my five hours of gameplay so far has been getting lost and getting owned by Big Daddys. I'm sure that it I wasn't playing on hard mode and had vitachambers on I would have had a better first impression. That being said once I get the grenade launcher and visit the Power to the People machine, my enjoyment levels will increase since I won't get owned by random Thuggish Splicers.

@Phokis
I plan on keeping myself relatively unspoiled.

Electric Buckshot is the only reason I beat my first Big Daddy. I love the shotgun.

Using the explosive barrels and gas canisters is key on hard mode. Use telekenesis to set explosive traps on the daddys.

You don't have to hurt the daddys :-)
If you ever read this.

I picked up Bioshock because I got it free with something else and after everyone telling me what a great game it was, I finally played it.

I pretty much hated FPS up to this point (bad goldeneye experiences) so I had low expectations.

However, I LOVED Bioshock.
My first run through (still my only, want to do a hard core though) I used ONLY wrenches as my weapons (except on big daddy's. Not good enough to wrench them to death). and that was a blast.

I do plan on going through and playing it again to get the rest of the achievements, but the mood has not struck yet.
