Playstation ‘Move’ My Impressions

So the news to come out of GDC 2010(game developers conference) is the name of Sony’s Motion Controller. ’Move’ that’s right people, ‘Move’ they obviously really like these action verbs, ‘Go’ really worked well for them.

I liked ‘Arc’ it had some personality, it had made it a bit unique but ‘move’ just sounds like your undermining your customer naming you product with such a literal label. Despite the annoyance of the names there’s more that grinds my slowly moving gears, the hardware is a mere rip-off of the Wii, with a second smaller controller in your other hand, god. I grew up playing playstation games, I grew up playing the Spyro’s and the Crash Bandicoot’s and the PS2 is probably my favourite of all time but this is just ruining my love for sony. I don’t want to be playing the “get the family to play” games on my PS3, that’s why I bought a Wii. If I wanted to play a party game, I would play it on my Wii. The games are cheaper on the Wii, my family can easily turn on the Wii and know what exactly what there doing, but is my mum going to turn on the PS3 and play a little bit of Little Big Planet w/motion, no. The PS3 is a core system and should be aimed at a core audience instead of jumping onto the family game band wagon, and destroying any ing originality that was once in this industry.

I feel like I’ve been spat on the face and shat on by the corporate suits of Sony. I want to be seeing Twisted Metal and Kingdom Hearts 3 not this shit, not a flood of bad games utilizing these stupid controls.

As you obviously tell I’m fuming with rage, so I’m going to stop and try not destroy everything sony in my household.

This blog post was written on the day of the announcement but I put it on my tumblr, I'll be posting all my blogs on CAG and on my tumblr at www.chuckjones.tumblr.com

Lets be honest here do you really think the hardcore gamers are going to run out and support the Move? From the looks of the games demoed at GDC, they all look like family oriented games.

That is pretty much what Wii was geared at the casual gamer. I highly doubt there will ever be a God of War with Move controls it just can't work just for the simple fact of how detailed in gameplay that game is.
I was a little disappointed when I saw more details on the Move as well (I don't like the name either!) I was really expecting Sony to come out with something a little better, they have had a lot of time to perfect it and come up with new ideas, but now that we have more details, it just looks like they copied the Wii. I'm sure there will be some original stuff (I've also heard that the controls are more precise than the Wii even with motion+ but I don't think that is enough change) but I just think they should have been able to do more with it.

I think that Natal is going to do a lot better in sales, just because there idea is a little more original. As a lot of people have said, Move is just a slightly more advanced from what they did a few years ago with the Playstation Eye. Between the big price of getting everything to play games with the move and the fact that it isn't all that original, I think more people, that are on the fence, are going to try Natal than Move.

I think Sony and Microsoft are trying to cash in on more of the casual gamer market after seeing Nintendo's success, but I don't think they are going to do as well. They aren't going to make most of their current gamers happy because most serious gamers that play these systems don't want motion controllers and as you mentioned, the Wii is just more accessible to a lot more people.
While there's "Move" specific games, I'm pretty sure that any other game that supports the "Move" will also support regular controls.
