Girl haters on PSN.

I had a pretty interesting experience today on PSN. I had about thirty minutes before I had to go out again, so I thought I'd play a quick match of Uncharted 2's deathmatch. Now I usually party up with my brothers if their online or with my boyfriend(we have our PS3's in the same room) if he's home with me, but as no one else was online I just played a match by myself. I'm usually used to obscene comments directed my way by guys when I'm playing, and I can fend for myself, but this particular guy (who was on the same team as me no less) really had it out for girl gamers. He threw everything from the usual "girls don't play games", "only girls who are losers play games" to even speculating that I must be ugly, because "all gamers that are girls are ugly". I mostly chuckled at his responses because I could really care less about what some random guy online thinks about me, but these constant comments make me wonder how many other guys out there feel that way. Is this a common misconception? Just because were not guys, it's strange for us to enjoy gaming? And just because I'm a girl gamer, that automatically classifies me as ugly? LOL. It definitely made me reconsider using my bluetooth online.

Its very messed up.
I love girl gamers cause they are not the stupid 9 year old that has to scream and curse cause his mons not around. I have a girl gamer that plays on XBLive. She plays Halo and MW2. As soon as they see shes a girl and the comments start but when she kicks their butt the comments stop. We always laugh when it happens. Just ignore it. Looks for friends and Im sure CAGS can play with you and be chill. |

My wife won't play online for this very reason. More often than not we just play offline co-op.

Some people are just dicks online. Can't help it. At least you know better than to retaliate.

I prefer to play with girl gamers. It's probably because I have WAY more female friends then I do male friends...and because I'm not an a$$hole.

Sorry to gripe about this, but the correct idiomatic usage is "I COULDN'T care less," not "I could care less." If you could care less, it indicates that you do care to an extent. If you couldn't care less, you are already at zero kelvins, the lowest
ing possible, thus meaning you don't care at all. |

Wow I came back from work and Im surprised to see so much feedback. Thanks guys, I really appreciate it.
@Chronis: Im not sure whether to take your comment seriously or not, and I hope your joking. But if your not, my answer to your resonse is: 1. No Im not an ugly loser. 2. It's comments like these that lead to these generalizations to begin with. I don't sit here an assume every guy I play with is ugly, fat, or a loser. And even if they were, you know what? It doesn't matter, because were all gamers, and we shouldn't care about gender, race, or anything else for that matter as long as we all have a good time playing our games. @basilofbkrst: I have absolutely nothing to prove to you, or anyone else on these forums. As I stated above, it shouldn't matter what anyone looks like, there no need to care about what the other people you are playing with look like. I always hear men complain about how there are barely any girl gamers, and what they should be asking themselves is why? Im sure the reason more women are hesitant about revealing their gender is because of the judgement placed on us, and the negative comments we receive. |

I've met some cool girl gamers over the years (some turned out to be total douches) but others are still great fun to play with.
I've never disrespected a female gamer unless she disrespected me first. |

im not defending this type of behavior, but sadly thats just the way it is, men always have to feel superior over women, men are hunters, men are the "brains", etc etc, What "was" the misconception of people playing video games 10-15 yrs ago? "oh they're nerds, geeks, etc etc"
i have a few female friends on PSN and they get the abuse that you mention but that only makes it better for me cuz we just gang up on him, and make them quit, so take it with a grain of salt and dont let it get to you, some people are just a$$holes |

Gaming is still (considered to be) a boy's club.
Which, come to think of it, makes all the hyper-masculine stuff like Gears of War seem kind of homoerotic. Well, moreso than it already does. |
