Goddamn that's a lot of immortals.
I'm finding that the more and more I play 1v1 RTS, the more anxiety I build up when I play. Sometime it comes to the point where I just don't play because of it. I've even had that whole "shaky hands" syndrome when playing.
Dealing with losses in RTS is really difficult for me. Sometimes, I'll review my replay and think, "I could've won if I did this here," or "My micromanagement in this battle was so horrible that I turned a winning situation into a guaranteed loss."
In a fighting game, it's okay if I lose. A match takes around 2-3 minutes. If you lose, you didn't lose much of your time. Even the little victories (winning a round instead of a match) make you feel better. You don't get that in RTS. If you win a battle, you get an "advantage," but you can easily squander it and there's no time to relax or feel good about yourself. You can even win a battle, but at the same time, your economy got destroyed when you weren't watching, so it's not a real true victory.
Even 2v2 RTS is okay. You can't shoulder the blame completely for your loss, you can blame your teammate. Plus, it's more relaxing since you can actually chat with someone, tell jokes, etc. 1v1, it's all you. You can't talk to anyone, except maybe the opponent... but that might be seen as bad mannered. It's just all serious.
Probably the most frustrating losses are games that you drop to worse players. In fighting games, I get angry of course, but in RTS, it is downright INFURIATING. In a fighting game you can rematch and the final score might be 10-2, even though you still sting over those 2 losses. In RTS? Almost no chance of a regame and unless you commit an hour or so, the most you can hope for is 2-1 or 1-1 and that still doesn't feel too good. In fighting games you can blame it on dumb luck, which does happen. In RTS, it feels like it's all skill.
It's definitely something tough to get used to...
