Video game ideas...

Is there any idea you had for a video game that you know you'd never take the time to make yourself and/or market to a big company? If so, please post it here for all the see - maybe someone else will take the time to make your 'awesome' game you've been wanting to see!
I want to see an MMOFPS (or Third Person) where you are in modern street combat... something like Saint's Row or GTA, but massive- an everchanging city based on player interactions. Be part of a huge gang running and gunning against another gang. You fight for control of certain sectors of the city which (while under your team's control) will provide bonuses to your gang. It'd be RPG driven for improving your skills and equipment. Just an idea I just came up with that I'll never pursue... On a side note- does anyone know the best route for a regular Joe, such as myself, to market a game to be produced? |

To answer your question about marketing a game. You need to develop something first. Then develop something better. Then develop something that's good, that people want to play, and then maybe a company will buy your game/hire you.
The best way to get your game idea out there is build it yourself, and put it up on the web for free. |

I have a great idea for a cool puzzle game. There would be pieces falling from the top of the screen, each an arrangement of 4 squares. The objective would be to form 'lines' across the playing field that would then disappear, giving you points. Over time, the pieces would fall faster and faster.
What do you guys think? Does this sound like a game that could be a hit? |

Basically, you should probably invest a lot of time (and money) in a gaming college. They are extremely expensive and often hard to even get into, but a lot of them boast a big pick-up rate. You're going to have to be a peon with a lot of ambition before you can be a "star player" in this sort of field.
Like Brownjohn said, really. Or you could develop an indie game and hope that it's good enough to be noticed. There are plenty of books on the subject and there have been some pretty great releases on that platform so far. Really you're not going to get into an industry like this and be your own boss. Decisions are made that really cut out new ideas and stick to experienced franchises... that's unfortunately how it works. Though EA took some chances with new IP's such as Dead Space and Mirrors Edge. |

I like your game idea and would play it. Borderlands comes to mind, but its not MMO really. It just came to mind, lol.
